RESUMEN

@#This study was carried out to compare the effective dose, size specific dose estimation (SSDE) and scan length between genders and between CT scanner with different slice number. A total of 245 set data of radiation dose and scan length for CT scanning procedure involving thorax, abdomen and pelvis regions were obtained retrospectively for comparisons. 111 patients (60 males and 51 females) were scanned using 160-slices CT scanner while 134 patients (71 males and 63 females) were scanned using 640-slices CT scanner. Generally, there were no significant differences in the radiation dose and scan length among genders. However, differences for SSDE in CT thorax and CT thorax-abdomen-pelvis (TAP) protocols exist whereby in CT thorax protocol, 640-slices CT scanner had a significantly higher value of SSDE (9.06±2.67 mGy) than that in 160-slices CT scanner (7.82±1.33 mGy). Similarly to the CT TAP protocol, whereby 640-slices CT scanner had a significantly lower value in SSDE (9.17±1.59 mGy) than that in 160-slices CT scanner (10.76±3.72 mGy). In conclusion, there was no significant difference in the radiation dose and scan length between genders but significant difference was only observed in SSDE due to the presence of body size variation among the study population especially in different CT scanners.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Congenital anomalies are hereditary or acquired, and their location and intensity are determining factors for the survival of animals. Some cases are rare, often unidentified, poorly reported and of unknown etiology. This paper reports a congenital malformation in a French bulldog, demonstrating the importance of accurate diagnosis for surgical decisions. The use of new technologies such as computed tomography and rapid prototyping enables the analysis of morphofunctional changes, resulting in excellent results for clinical cases in which it is difficult to identify and scale the anatomical deformities. Through this feature, it is possible to accurately recreate anatomical structures of interest, enabling greater assertiveness in deciding the treatment to be established, whether surgical or not. Castration of animals that survive this condition due to hereditary etiology is recommended.

Objective:To used the internationally accepted methods of CT quality assurance for testing their quality, to maintain the normal operation of CT scanner and guarantee the quality of photographic image. Methods: Toshiba Activion 16 row CT, set the scanning conditions: tube voltage 120 kv, 310 mas exposure, scan time is 0.33 s, scanning layer thickness: 10 mm, 5 mm, 1.5 mm, view(FOV) 150 mm×150 mm, 512 x 512 reconstruction matrix. We measured the following performance parameters for CT spatial resolution, low contrast resolution, uniformity and noise with Catphan500 phantom made by the phantom laboratory of U.S.A.Results: The spatial resolution, low contrast resolution, uniformity and noise of the CT are all in line with the requirements. Obtained by detecting the X-ray dose, pixel, the thickness of the above parameters are affected, but also the interaction between the above parameters simultaneously. Conclusion: By detecting the spatial resolution, low contrast resolution of medical image, we can effectively guarantee system performance, maintaining optimal image quality.

RESUMEN

Background: Nowadays, Computed Tomography (CT) plays an important role not only in diagnosis but also in evaluating the severity of cranial lesions, especially brain injuries. Objectives: (1) To determine the related factors of brain injury. (2) To identify the rate of discovering brain injuries in CT film. (3) To propose appropriate an time for performing CT examinations. Subjects and method: The retrospective study was carried out on 413 cranial traumatic cases admitted to Viet Tiep Hospital from 1/1/2006 to 31/12/2007. All of them were taken with a CT - scanner. Results: The percentage of male - patient is 4 times higher than this of female. Most of the patients were 21-30 year olds (69%). The most common cause was motor accidents (64%). The indirect (dislocation of middle line) and direct pathogenic images can be found in CT-scanner in 210/413 cases (50.85%) and 216/413 (52.30%), respectively. 114 cases (27.60%) underwent surgical treatments. 20 patients died (4.84%) because of severe and complex injuries. Conclusion: It is necessary to closely monitor all the changes of the signs and symptoms in order to specify CT-scanner examination on time.

RESUMEN

Objective To discuss the application of C-arm CT scanning technology in performing transcatheter arterial chemoembolization for hepatic cancer. Methods Seventy-seven patients of hepatic cancer were treated with selective transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE),which was followed by C-arm CT scanning to observe the embolization effect.C-arm CT scanning was also performed before TACE in 13 cases.Three-dimension reconstruction of the images was carried out on Integris 3D-RA workstation. The therapeutic results were evaluated. Results The embolization state of both the peripheral margin and the body of the tumor could be clearly displayed on CT scans in all 77 patients. Some tiny liver lesions were also detected in 3cases.Conclusion C-arm CT scanning technology is a newly-developed high-tech examination. This examination is very helpful for making the proper operation scheme and for evaluating the curative effect of intravascular intervention.Compared to the traditional CT scanning,C-arm CT scanning can provide more accurate information and stereoscopic image of the lesions, therefore, the whole course of the interventional procedure can be entirely under the operator's control and the curative effect can be evaluated at any time during the operation.C-arm CT scanning can be effectively employed in interventional therapy for multisystemic disorders.

RESUMEN

Objective With the increasing of the CT examination, the dose of x-ray has been brought to public attention. For the sake of making the MDCT technology better applied, available optimal technology has to be used to reduce the x-ray dose to the patients. Methods Many optimal technologies were involved in, such as ECG modulation, cardiac bowtie, 3D dose modulation, compact geometry design, electron collector and speed 4D CARE dose. Results The result of the research showed that the dose of scanning x-ray of CT could be decreased sharply by using optimal technologies. The Q2 values was the standard which could well evaluate the quality of the CT′s images and the dose of x-ray. Conclusion The quality of images and the dose of x-ray can′t be separated, which must be quoted together.

RESUMEN

In order to select a computed tomography(CT)scanner system with reasonable cost performance (performance-price ratio) among various brands and types of CT products in accordance with the clinical features of the pediatric patients, Tianjin Children's Hospital made a feasibility study on purchasing the equipment in all its aspects, including the evaluation of its type and performance, social and economic benefits, and eventually purchased a 16-slice helical CT scanner which fully fulfills the practical needs of the hospital. This way of evaluation can be widely used in the feasibility study for purchasing different large-scale medical equipment to avoid unnecessary waste of funds.
