In this case report the authors describe the presence of nodules in the concave pinna of a five years-old male Persian cat brought to veterinary clinic care in Rio de Janeiro in 2015, diagnosed by histopathology as ceruminous cystomatosis. As it is an uncommon disorder of unknown etiology and easy treatment, the authors aim to elucidate the main clinical signs associated and treatment used. The ablation of cysts was performed withan electric bistoury and no recurrency was reported within three years. It is suggested that benign cysts can progress to malignancy, besides, lesions can disrupt normal self-cleaning of the auditory canal leading to secondary otitis externa by microbial proliferation.

RESUMEN

The external auditory canal is composed of skin, subcutaneous tissue and gland. The mass originated from external auditory canal can produce otorrhea and some obstructive symptoms. Ceruminoma is a broad term expressing the tumor arising from the ceruminous gland. The ceruminous gland tumors is assigned to one of four categories(adenoma, pleomorphic adenoma, adenocystic carcinoma & adenocarcinoma) by Wetli's protype. The wide local excision is a treatment of choice for all benign ceruminous gland tumors except the malignant tumors needed combined treatment modalities as surgery and radiotherapy. We report our recent experience of two ceruminous adenomas causing ear canal obstruction & otorrhea.

RESUMEN

Tumors of the ceruminous gland are rare. However, careful histologic evaluation and classification are necessary for the proper treatment and ultimate prognosis. We present 5 cases of ceruminous gland tumors. Case l (73/M) and case 2 (52/M) were adenoid cystic carcinoma. They presented with protuding masses in the left external auditory canal for several months. Case 3 (76/M) was a mucoepidermoid carcinoma of auditory canal, who presented with right ear swelling. The mass recurred 3 years after the surgical resection and combined radiation therapy. Case 4 (60/F) and case 5 (2l/F) were ceruminous adenoma, which showed diffuse or focal areas of glandular structures with one-or two-layer of eosinophilic columnar to cuboidal cells and sometimes with myoepithelial cells. These tumors showed non-infil-trative growth pattern and lack of mitosis, and had no capsule.
