RESUMEN

@#Objective To study the role of ubiquitin proteasome pathway in Du Meridian moxibustion for skeletal muscle aging. Methods A total of 30 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly separated into control group (n=10), model group (n=10) and moxibustion group (n=10). The model group and the moxibustion group were subcutaneously injected D-galactose 125 mg/kg daily for six weeks, while the control group was injected the same volume of saline. Then the moxibustion group was cauterized on Du Meridian 20 minutes a day for 20 days. The expression of ubiquitin, muscle RING finger 1 (MuRF1) and muscle atrophy F-box (MAFbx) in erector spinae were tested with Western blotting. Results The expression of ubiquitin, MuRF1 and MAFbx increased in the model group compared with that of the control group (P<0.05), decreased in the moxibustion group compared with that of the model group (P<0.05).Conclusion The Du Meridian moxibustion may regulate ubiquitin proteasome pathway to inhibit the degradation of protein, and delay muscular atrophy.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Du meridian moxibustion on ankylosing spondylitis (AS) of kidney yang deficiency type. Method Sixty patients with active AS of kidney yang deficiency type were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 30 cases each. The treatment group received Du meridian moxibustion plus oral administration of sulfasalazine tablets and the control group, sham moxibustion plus oral administration of sulfasalazine tablets. Treatment was given once every other day, four weeks as a course, for a total of two courses. The Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) score, the Pain Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) score and the Bath Ankylosing Spondilitis Metrology Index (BASMI) score were recorded and laboratory safety indicators were observed in the patients. Result The TCM syndrome score decreased in both treatment and control groups of AS patients at four and eight weeks of treatment (P0.05). The BASDAI, VAS, BASFI and BASMI scores decreased in the two groups of AS patients at four weeks of treatment (P<0.05). They decreased more in the treatment group at eight weeks of treatment; there were statistically significant differences compared with the control group (P<0.05). The laboratory safety indicators were not markedly abnormal. Conclusion Du meridian moxibustion can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms and does not cause obvious adverse reactions in AS patients. It is a safe and effective way to treat AS.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Du meridian moxibustion in treating polycystic ovarian syndrome of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type. Methods Seventy patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 35 cases each. The treatment group received Du meridian moxibustion plus medication and stomach and the control group, medication alone. Sex hormones [follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (IH) and testosterone (T)], fasting insulin (INS), fasting blood glucose (GLU), body mass index (BMI) and changes in menstrual cycle were observed in the two groups before and after three weeks of treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups. Results The total efficacy rate was 94.3%in the treatment group and 77.1%in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in LH, LH/FSH and T in the two groups (P<0.01, P<0.05). There were no statistically significant post-treatment differences in sex hormones between the two groups (P>0.05). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in INS, BMI and menstrual cycle in the treatment group (P<0.01, P<0.05). There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in menstrual cycle in the control group (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant post-treatment differences in INS, GLU, BMI and menstrual cycle between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Du meridian moxibustion is an effective way to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type. It can improve insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity.
