RESUMEN

ABSTRACT Permanent canines are essential for the preservation of the stomatognathic system, as they are part of the occlusal and aesthetic function and balance. During the normal development of occlusion, canines follow a long and complex trajectory until their eruption, that is, they are more likely to suffer disturbances during this process. Removal of the permanent canine should only be considered in extreme cases, where the canine itself is not susceptible to orthodontic traction. Orthodontic traction is the most indicated treatment due to the high morphofunctional and aesthetic value of the permanent canine. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case of traction surgery of the superior permanent canine included in the maxilla. A 13-year-old female patient attended the dental clinic at the Nilton Lins University accompanied by her guardian, referred by an orthodontistfor canine traction surgery. during the examIn the clinical analysis, tooth 13 was absent from the dental arch. The patient had a computed tomography scan, where it was possible to verify the actual position of the toothimpacted with the partially erupted crown on the alveolar ridge. After planning, surgery was performed to install an orthodontic button and adapt the ligature with a 0.30 mm wire. After the 10-month follow-up period, the presence of the tooth in arch, completely erupted, was observed, showing effectiveness in the proposed treatment. Therefore, the procedure for bonding the orthodontic device was performed satisfactorily without complications or intercurrences, making it possible to continue the orthodontic treatment. The patient remains under follow-up.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is a relatively rare type of ERR (External Root Resorption), in which a localized resorption begins in the cervical area of the tooth, below the epithelial junction and above the ridge crest. Objective: Describe the clinical case of an 11-year-old boy with no dental trauma history, presenting moderate crowding and ectopic eruption of the maxillary right central incisor. He had been undergoing orthodontic treatment elsewhere, and his family was dissatisfied with the results. Description: A new treatment was indicated, which included rapid maxillary expansion followed by extraction of four premolars. During routine panoramic evaluation, a radiolucid image was detected and a periapical radiograph was requested. At this point, an ICR of the maxillary right central incisor was found. The treatment was cautiously finalized and despite the use of light forces, central incisor was severally compromised by ICR and was therefore extracted. Conclusion: This clinical example discusses the importance of routine radiographs for the early diagnoses of ICR.

The presence of supernumeraries may lead to irruptive problems, such as impacted teeth, functional and aesthetic disorders. The present study describes two clinical cases, with anterior teeth eruption disorders caused by additional dental elements, treated early. Patients presented with aesthetic involvement, with delay in the emergence of the upper incisors. The clinical and radiographic examinations detected the presence of obstacles to the teeth eruption. Early treatment with 2x4 appliance was realized, followed by final corrective orthodontics. After restoration of the dimension for retained teeth, there was spontaneous eruption in clinical case 1 and need of traction in clinical case 2. When patients reached the complete permanent dentition, a corrective phase was performed with the objective of detailing the dental occlusion and finishing the treatment. The early diagnosis of teeth impacted and supernumerary, provide the achievement of adequate occlusion and positive aesthetic of patients, with good prognosis, avoiding psychological and functional problems caused by absence of anterior teeth. (AU).

@#This case report highlights mandibular tooth in an ectopic position in the floor of the mouth, associated with submandibular salivary gland, which was completely obliterating the Wharton duct. Very few such cases have been reported in the literatures. Since ectopic tooth may lead to pain, discomfort sensation upon mastication, and even infection (sialadenitis), its diagnosis and treatment is essential.

INTRODUCTION: Dental transposition and impaction are disorders related to ectopic eruption or failure in tooth eruption, which can affect child physical, mental and social development and may be difficult to be clinically solved. METHODS: We describe a case of transposition between the upper left canine and lateral incisor associated with impaction of the central incisor on the same side, in a 12-year-old patient. Conservative treatment involving surgical-orthodontic correction of transposed teeth and traction of the central incisor was conducted. CONCLUSION: The option of correcting transposition and orthodontic traction by means of the segmented arch technique with devices such as cantilever and TMA rectangular wire loops, although a complex alternative, was proved to be esthetically and functionally effective. .

Ectopic eruption is a concept including those clinical cases in which teeth show abnormal eruption pattern and erupt ectopically, in an incorrect position. This abnormality has been pointed out in the literature for the first permanent molars, mainly the maxillary ones. There is no specific etiological factor for this abnormality in the first permanent molar, but different factors are reported. The early approach of the ectopic eruption of the first permanent molar can prevent effects such as the early root resorption of the adjacent deciduous second molar and the loss of space for eruption of the premolar successor as well. The purpose of this paper was to report a ectopic eruption of a maxillary first permanent molar diagnosed in a nine-year-old patient with severe root resorption of the adjacent deciduous second molar. A simple and effective therapeutic approach was implemented to treat such abnormality. This clinical case was followed until complete eruption of the premolar successor.

Ectopic teeth (ET) occur in a wide variety of sites such as palate, mandibular condyle, coronoid process, orbit, maxillary antrum and nasal cavity. To date, the precise etiology of ET is still unknown. Although ET can be present in patients without any associated syndrome or development anomaly, it can be frequently associated with cleft lip, palate or other syndromes such as Gardner's syndrome, cleidocranial dysplasia, and etc. The Candida species are yeast fungi, which are pathogenic saprophytes, but the infection of the nose and sinuses is rare. We report a case of cleft lip and palate patient presenting with a history of foul odor, who was found to have an ectopic tooth in the nasal cavity with superimposed candidal infection.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The presence of ectopic tooth in the sinonasal cavity is an unusual phenomenon and the underlying etiology remains unclear. Because of its rarity, clinical observation studies about sinonasal ectopic tooth are very rare. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics of ectopic tooth occurring in the sinonasal cavity. SUBJECTS AND METHOD: Medical records and radiologic studies of 11 patients, who were treated between January 2006 and June 2012 for ectopic nasal teeth were reviewed retrospectively, with regard to sex, age, location, symptoms and treatment methods. RESULTS: Among 11 patients, 8 patients were male and 3 patients were female. The average age was 24.2 years. Among 7 patients who had symptoms, nasal obstruction was the most common followed by rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, facial swelling or pain, headache. The nasal cavity was the most frequently affected site. Among 14 ectopic teeth from eleven patients, 7 were removed by intrasnasal endoscopy and 2 by external premaxillary approach. Five teeth which were unerupted within the hard palate or maxillary sinus were offered conservative treatment with periodic follow-up. CONCLUSION: Removal of ectopic nasal tooth is generally advocated to alleviate the symptoms and prevent complications; if conservative treatment is decided, periodic monitoring of the patient is recommended. We suggest that treatment be carefully planned based on the symptoms of patients, location of the ectopic tooth, and whether the tooth is erupted or not.

RESUMEN

Supernumerary, ectopic tooth eruption in a non-dental area is a rare entity. The ectopic development of tooth found in non-dental environment has been reported in places such as the nasal cavity, chin, maxillary sinus, mandibular bone, palate and orbital cavity. Ectopic tooth eruptions in the maxillary sinus are usually asymptomatic and are found incidentally during routine clinical or radiological investigations. The diagnosis is usually made by plain-film radiography. Computed tomography is indicated when an ectopic tooth is found prior to surgery. Standard treatment for an ectopic tooth is extraction of the tooth. Here, the authors present a case of supernumerary, ectopic tooth found in the maxillary sinus associated with a mucocele.

RESUMEN

The ectopic eruption of teeth into the nasal cavity is a rare phenomenon. Ectopic tooth eruptions commonly occur in the palate and maxillary sinus, but have also been reported in the mandibular condyle, coronoid process, orbit, and nasal cavities. The clinical manifestations of intranasal teeth are quite variable; however, intranasal teeth can be an incidental finding during routine examination in patients without nasal discomfort. Herein we report a unique case of an intranasal ectopic tooth that erupted into the nasal cavity and caused significant nasal symptoms in an otherwise healthy patient. The intranasal tooth was removed endoscopically.

RESUMEN

The ectopic eruption of a supernumerary tooth can occur in the sinonasal area, but due to its rarity, few cases of ectopic tooth eruption in the maxillary sinus have been reported. A fungus ball in the paranasal sinuses usually involves just one sinus, most frequently the maxillary sinus. Here, the authors present a case of an ectopic supernumerary tooth embedded in a fungus ball of the maxillary sinus.

Tooth develop results of several interactions between oral epithelium end underlying mesenchymatic tissue during odontogenesis. Abnormal relation of tissues could result in develop and eruption of an ectopic tooth. Impacted third molars are a frequent pathology in oral and maxillofacial surgery, it evaluation is commonly radiographic, and the most frequent position in jaw bone is mesioangular. This report wants to show an impacted third molar in mandibular retromolar region. Diagnosis was done through a orthopantomographic study during a clinical evaluation of 51 years of age female patient. Teeth was found sub cortical of right retromolar zone. Considering patient did not related or shown clinical signs of pathology, and radiograph neither had disease compatible signs, was resolved do not proceed to extraction. However, is important to consider this anatomical variation and a possible surgical resolution if a prosthetic rehabilitation of this area.

RESUMEN

A case of a large dentigerous cyst associated with canine tooth in the maxillary antrum is presented. This case is of interest because of its extensiveness and the presence of an ectopic tooth in the roof of the maxillary sinus. Theoretical aspects of canine impaction and cyst formation are reviewed. The management of a jaw cyst, in particular, the still popular Caldwell-Luc procedure is discussed.
