Introduction: Screw-retained restorations have a screw access hole (SAH) sealed with resin composite aiming at safe-guarding the aesthetic features of the ceramic veneer. The loss or wear of the resin composite applied in sealing the SAH is among the most common complications in implant prosthodontics, as the fracture of ceramic veneer. Objective: Evaluate the influence of sealant materials on the fracture resistance of resin composite applied in sealing screw access hole in screwed (SAH) implants. Material and method: The samples were produced from UCLA abutments in metallic NiCr alloy with subsequent application of ceramic. After asperisation and conditioning ceramic surface, was applied silane and dentin adhesive, before sealing the conduits with resin composites Z100 and P60. Nine groups (n=10) were evaluated: sealing with Z-100 (ZNC) and P-60 (PNC) without obturation of SAH; sealing with Z100 (ZCP) and P-60 (PCP) with absorbent cotton; Z100 (ZPT) and P60 (PPT) with polytetrafluoroethylene; Z100 (ZGP) and P60 (PGP) with gutta-percha and a cemented ceramic crown (ICS). After the fracture resistance test, the data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests (p<.05). Result: The fracture mode was evaluated by scanning electron microscope. Irrespective of the filling material, the highest mean values of fracture resistance were observed in the sealing with P60 (p=.002). When combined with resins composed of a sealing material, the results obtained were: ZGP: 805.5N/ PGP: 929.5N

Introdução: As próteses parafusadas possuem orifício de acesso ao parafuso (SAH), os quais são selados com resina composta. Sua perda ou desgaste está entre as complicações mais comuns em próteses sobre implantes, associadas a fratura da lâmina cerâmica. Objetivo: Assim, é importante avaliar a influência dos materiais de selamento na resistência à fratura de resina composta aplicada ao SAH no selamento de prótese sobre implantes parafusadas. Material e método: As amostras foram produzidas utilizando pilares UCLA em liga metálica de NiCr com posterior aplicação de cerâmica. Após asperização e condicionamento da superfície cerâmica, foram aplicados silano e adesivo dentinário, antes da selagem dos condutos com as resinas compostas Z100 e P60. Foram avaliados nove grupos (n = 10): selamento com Z-100 (ZNC) e P-60 (PNC) sem selamento do SAH; selamento com Z100 (ZCP) e P-60 (PCP) com algodão absorvente; Z100 (ZPT) e P60 (PPT) com politetrafluoroetileno; Z100 (ZGP) e P60 (PGP) com guta-percha e coroa de cerâmica cimentada (ICS). Após o teste de resistência à fratura, os dados foram analisados usando ANOVA de dois fatores e testes Tukey HSD (p<0,05). O tipo de fratura foi avaliado por microscópio eletrônico de varredura. Resultado Independentemente do material obturador, os maiores valores médios de resistência à fratura foram observados no selamento com P60 (p=0,002). Quando combinados com resinas compostas por um material de selamento, os resultados obtidos foram: ZGP: 805,5N/ PGP: 929,5N

Resumen Evaluar la influencia del tipo de terminación marginal; filo de cuchillo (F) y chamfer (C) sobre la resistencia flexural de coronas de disilicato de litio CAD/CAM en espesores de 0,8 mm y 0,5 mm. Materiales y métodos: 40 premolares superiores sanos, en 2 grupos de acuerdo con el tipo de terminación G1=F y G2=C; 2 subgrupos referentes al espesor del material Sg1=0,8mm y Sg2 0,5 mm (5 coronas por cada subgrupo), se sometieron a fuerzas de compresión vertical (v) y horizontal (h). Se observó el tipo de fractura más frecuente; cohesivas en porcelana (cp), adhesiva en porcelana (ap), mixta pequeña (mp) y mixta larga (ml). Resultados: En preparaciones a 0,8 mm y 0,5 mm, existió diferencia significativa en relación con la mejor terminación, esta fue el C; sus valores fueron, Sg1 (h=1347,2 N / v=1402,0. F; Sg1 (h=965,6 N/ v= 794,8 N). F a 0,5 mm mostró mejor desempeño ante fuerzas horizontales. C; Sg2 (h=924,8 N /v=813,4 N) y para F; Sg2 (h=1217,0 N /v= 576,0 N). Conclusiones: Tipo de fractura más frecuente es cp y ap. Terminación chamfer y filo de cuchillo pueden ser utilizados con seguridad, pues muestran valores aceptables de resistencia flexural, al reducirse el grosor de la restauración en chamfer reduce su resistencia, el filo de cuchillo la aumenta.


Abstract Objective: To evaluate the influence of the type of shoulder margins; Knife edge (F) and Chamfer (C) on the flexural strength of CAD / CAM lithium disilicate crowns in thicknesses of 0.8 mm and 0.5 mm. Materials and Methods: 40 healthy upper premolars, in 2 groups according to the type of termination G1 = F and G2 = C; 2 subgroups referring to the material thickness Sg1 = 0.8mm and Sg2 0.5mm (5 crowns for each subgroup), were subjected to vertical (v) and horizontal (h) compression forces. The most frequent type of fracture was observed; cohesive in porcelain (cp), adhesive in porcelain (ap), mixed small (mp) and mixed long (ml). Results: In preparations with 0.8 mm and 0.5 mm thicknesses, there was a significant difference in relation to the best termination, this was C; their values were Sg1 (h = 1347.2 N / v = 1402.0.F; Sg1 (h = 965.6 N / v = 794.8 N) .F at 0.5 mm showed better performance against horizontal forces C; Sg2 (h = 924.8 N / v = 813.4 N) and for F; Sg2 (h = 1217.0 N / v = 576.0 N) Conclusions: The most frequent type of fracture is cp and ap finishing chamfer and knife edge can be used safely show acceptable values of flexural strength, by reducing the thickness of the chamfer restoration reduces its strength, the knife edge increases it.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the flexural cyclic fatigue resistance and the length of the fractured segments (FLs) of recently introduced M-Pro rotary files with that of RaCe rotary files in curved canals and to evaluate the fracture surface by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-six endodontic files with the same tip size and taper (size 25, 0.06 taper) were used. The samples were classified into 2 groups (n = 18): the M-Pro group (M-Pro IMD) and the RaCe group (FKG). A custom-made simulated canal model was fabricated to evaluate the total number of cycles to failure and the FL. SEM was used to examine the fracture surfaces of the fragmented segments. The data were statistically analyzed and comparisons between the 2 groups for normally distributed numerical variables were carried out using the independent Student's t-test. A p value less than 0.05 was considered to indicate statistical significance. RESULTS: The M-Pro group showed significantly higher resistance to flexural cyclic fatigue than the RaCe group (p < 0.05), but there was no significant difference in the FLs between the 2 groups (p ≥ 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Thermal treatment of nickel-titanium instruments can improve the flexural cyclic fatigue resistance of rotary endodontic files, and the M-Pro rotary system seems to be a promising rotary endodontic file.
