RESUMEN

Objective:To investigate characteristics of the 18F-flurodeoxyglucose ( 18F-FDG) uptake intensity and ranges in distinct hepatic alveolar echinococcosis lesions. Methods:The clinical data of 39 patients with position emission tomography during Jan 2017 to Dec 2019 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were enrolled. Among them, there were 17 males and 22 females, aging from 15 to 65 years (median 34 years). Lesions were classified into six groups based on heterogenic scales of calcification and liquefaction: A. non-calcified and non-liquefied ( n=7); B. obvious calcified and non-liquefied ( n=7); C. partial calcified and partial liquefied( n=10); D. obvious calcified and partial liquefied ( n=5); E. partial calcified and subtotal liquefied ( n=5); F. obvious calcified and subtotal liquefied ( n=5). Tumor to background ratio (TBR) and width (W) of lesion infiltrative boundary were measured and calculated. Statistical comparison using Mann-Whitney U test as well as correlation analysis was performed. Results:TBR values [ M( Q1, Q3)] for each group were 4.40(3.66, 7.03), 2.55(1.69, 3.60), 3.73(3.37, 5.21), 2.90(2.75, 3.60), 3.80(3.49, 6.36), 2.49(2.21, 3.97), among which A>B, A>D, A>F, C>B, E>B ( U=3.0, 4.0, 4.5, 11.0, 5.0, all P<0.05); From the perspective of the calcification in each group, it was found that the lighter the calcification was, the greater the TBR value was. W values [ M( Q1, Q3)] for each group were [12.5(10.0, 19.5), 11.2(10.5, 12.5), 12.2(10.9, 13.2), 7.8(7.3, 9.3), 10.0(7.3, 13.4), 7.3(6.8, 7.6)] mm, among which A>D, A>F, B>D, B>F, C>D, C>F (all U=0, all P<0.05); According to the degree of calcification and liquefaction of lesions in each group, the lighter the calcification was, the greater the W value was; The heavier the liquefaction was, the smaller the W value was. A mild strength linear correlation has been observed between the TBR value and W value ( r=0.4136, P<0.05). Conclusions:Less calcification and liquefaction implicated higher 18F-FDG uptake intensity and wider range. Radical resection margins and tissue sampling should be individualized based on different lesion features in surgical treatment.

RESUMEN

Objective • To investigate the clinical value of 18F-flurodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/ CT)-guided percutaneous biopsy in peritoneal thickening of unknown origin. Methods • Ten cases of peritoneal thicken of unknown origin including 4 males and 6 females were analyzed. After 18F-FDG PET/CT examination, the peritoneal thickening regions with high 18F-FDG uptake were selected for the target areas. Percutaneous biopsy was operated under the guidance of the same PET/CT machine. Results • All lesions were successfully obtained by one-time puncture without serious complications, and histopathological diagnosis revealed that 7 cases were malignant, including 4 cases of peritoneal metastasis and 3 cases of lymphoma. The remaining cases were 1 case of pseudomyxoma, 1 case of tuberculosis and 1 case of inflammatory lesions. The accuracy of biopsy was 100%. Conclusion • 18F-FDG PET/CT-guided peritoneal percutaneous biopsy is a safe and effective method, and may play an important role in differential diagnosis and treatment management.

RESUMEN

Objective:To explore the imaging manifestation of elastofibroma dorsi in18F-FDG PET-CT.Methods: The back soft tissue mass of abnormal metabolism was found by18F-FDG PET-CT scan, and then delayed imaging for the mass was performed. Results: Surgical pathology confirmed it was elastofibroma. The tumor showed clear boundary, there was no damage to adjacent ribs, and this method was mild radioactivity uptake, besides, metabolism was decreased at delayed imaging in18F-FDG PET-CT; the patient had no correlated clinical symptomatic and apparent positive physical signs. Conclusion: Tumor detection rate of18F-FDG PET-CT for elastofibroma dorsi is higher than normal CT detection. And the delayed manifestation for metabolism were decrease. Therefore, these situation accordance to benign tumor metabolism changes.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The semiquantitative parameter "standard uptake value" (SUV) of 18Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron-emission tomography (PET) provides important additional information about colorectal cancer. In general, colorectal cancers exhibit different growth patterns with different clinicopathological characteristics. The aim of this study was to elucidate the link between the macroscopic appearance of colorectal cancers and maximum SUV (SUVmax) FDG uptakes. METHODS: We analyzed 347 patients with colorectal cancer who underwent PET scanning before treatment. The SUVmax of colorectal cancer was analyzed by examining PET images. The macroscopic appearance of each colorectal cancer was classified into three major types: ulcerofungating (n=223), ulceroinfiltrating (n=44), and fungating (n=78). Two cases that were difficult to classify were excluded from the study. RESULTS: The SUVmax was higher in colorectal cancers with an ulcerofungating appearance (12.19+/-5.84, mean+/-standard deviation) and ulceroinfiltrating appearance (11.66+/-5.63) than in those with a fungating appearance (9.58+/-6.67; P=0.005) (ulcerofungating and ulceroinfiltrative vs. fungating, P<0.001). A smaller tumor size (P<0.001) were significantly related to the fungating colorectal cancer. Four out of six colorectal cancers that did not show FDG uptake were the fungating type. CONCLUSIONS: Colorectal cancers with a fungating appearance exhibit a lower SUVmax, shallower invasion and smaller tumor size. Our results indicate that colorectal cancers with a fungating appearance would be less prominent on PET scan than those with an ulcerofungating or ulceroinfiltrating appearance, and thus require more attention.
