RESUMEN

The cause of dizziness is often phlegm-rheum, and most of them are treated with drugs, which eliminate excessive fluids. However, in recent years, the causes of dizziness have become diversified and complicated, and in some cases it is difficult to treat with general-purpose agents. This time, we present a case of chronic refractory dizziness successfully treated with goshakusan. The patient was a 70-year-old woman. She had wobbled while walking for 2 years, and consulted nearby doctors. No particular abnormality was pointed out, and oral treatment was performed, but there was no improvement. In our department, ryokeijutsukanto, hangebyakujutsutenmato, goreisan, hochuekkito, kamishoyosan, chotosan, and shinbuto were prescribed by the doctor at the first visit. However, there was no improvement, and the author took over the charge. We diagnosed her with orthostatic dysregulation and prescribed tofisopam, but her dizziness did not improve. We conducted oriental medical examination, and diagnosed that phlegm-rheum associated with food accumulation was the main pathological condition, and that qi stagnation and blood stasis were combined. After 16 weeks of administration of goshakusan, her dizziness improved.

RESUMEN

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy, safety and recurrence rate of Acupoint Pressing Therapy of Zang and Fu in the treatment of children with functional constipation. Methods:A total of 120 children with functional constipation form the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2020 to June 2021, were divided into two groups randomly, 80 in observation group and 40 in control group. Both groups were treated with routin therpy. The observation group was treated with Acupoint pressing therapy of Zang and Fu, and the control group was treated with Xiaoerhuashi syrup. Both groups were treated for 2 weeks. Before and after treatment, TCM syndromes were scored, daily defecation and spontaneous defecation response were recorded, and the efficacy was evaluated. The patients were followed up for 4 weeks and the recurrence was recorded. Results:Seventh and 14th day after treatment, the effective rates of TCM syndrome efficacy in the observation group were 87.5% (70/80) and 92.5% (74/80), and 62.5% (25/40) and 80.0% (32/40) in the control group. The scores of main symptoms, secondary syndromes and total scores of TCM syndromes in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( P<0.01 or P<0.05) at 7th day ( t values were 2.90, 2.77 and 3.93) and 14th day ( t values were 4.24, 5.95 and 6.27) after treatment. The effective rates of the observation group was 83.8% (67/80) and that of the control group was 65.0% (26/40). The difference between the two groups was statistically significant ( χ2=5.38, P=0.020). In the follow-up, the recurrence rate of the observation group was 9.5% (7/74) and that of the control group was 18.8% (6/32). There was no significant difference between two groups ( χ2=1.79, P=0.181). Conclusion:Acupoint Pressing Therapy of Zang and Fu has the advantages of curative effect, low recurrence rate and safety in the treatment of children's functional constipation.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 36 patients attending the Periodontics Department of Vista Alegre Dental Clinic in Santiago de Cuba from October 2010 to March 2011, in order to describe the periodontal status of these patients and some associated risk factors. The statistical validation was performed by chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05 and 95% of confidence if p = 0.05. Of the variates in the series periodontitis, age 35 or older, female sex, oral counseling in primary health care and inadequate referrals to the Service of Periodontics (with a significant percentage) prevailed, while of the risk factors poor oral hygiene, dental calculi and food accumulation predominated. A significant correlation of diabetes mellitus with periodontal disease was also observed.

RESUMEN

Background and Objectives: In complete denture wearers, the accumulation of food in the buccal vestibule is one of the factors causing discomfort to the patient. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of mandibular denture buccal flange on food retention and to correlate between varying angulations of buccal flange of mandibular denture on food retention. Materials and Methods: Complete dentures were fabricated and the mandibular complete denture was duplicated. The existing (unduplicated) manually molded and physiologically molded dentures were tested for food retention. Twenty test particles having a diameter of 2±0.2 mm were placed on the middle part of the buccal flange and the subjects were instructed to expel the test particles by performing only functional movements of the buccal musculature. The numbers of residual test particles in the buccal vestibule were counted after 30s. The angulations of the denture buccal flange (duplicated) were measured with an optical bevel protractor and trimmed to 50° and the food retention test was performed. Similar tests were performed at 60°, 70° and 80° angulations. The data were evaluated using the Pearson correlation coefficient, One-way ANOVA test and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: The difference between the residual scores of manually molded and physiologically molded denture base was not significant. The difference between the residual scores at different angulations of the buccal flange of the denture was significant. Conclusion: Only the slope of the flange significantly affects the ability of subjects to expel the test particles.
