RESUMEN

Objective To explore the expression of galectin-3 in human gastric carcinoma tissues and to investigate its clinincal significances. Methods Immunohistochemistry method was used to detect the expression of galectin-3 in 52 pairs of specimens of gastric carcinoma tissues,33 atypical hypcrplasia of gastric tissues and 20 gastritis tissues.Expression levels of galectin-3 in different tissues were compared and analyzed. The relationship between expression levels and clinical parameters was investigated. Results The positive rates of galectin-3 were 94.2 % (49/52),80.0 % (16/20) and 33.3 % (11/30).The positive rates of galectin-3 were higher in gastric carcinoma than those in atypical hyperplasia and gastritis (Z =2.181,6.160,3.611,all P < 0.05).The expression levels of galectin-3 in lymph node metastasis gastric carcinoma, poorly differentiated gastric carcinoma were 100 % (22/22),100 % (45/45) respectively.Galectin-3 expression in patients without lymph node metastasis, high differentiation in gastric carcinoma were 78.6 % (27/30),57.1% (4/7)respectively.The expression levels of galectin-3 were correlated with metastasis and differentiation, with higher expressions in the cases with metastatic lymph nodes (Z =12.463,P < 0.05) and in poor differentiation tissues (Z =3.245,P < 0.05).Conclusion Galectin-3 is overexpressed in gastric carcinoma tissues, indicating that both of them may play roles in the pathogenesis of gastric carcinoma. The overexpression of galectin-3 is correlated with metastatic lymph nodes and poor differentiation, indicating that galectin-3 may be prognostic indicator of gastric carcinoma.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the relationship between CT perfusion imaging and clinicopathological features in gastric adenocarcinoma. Methods CT perfusion was performed in 31 cases of gastric cancer diagnosed by endoscopy and biopsy one week prior to operation. After an oral intake of 1000—1200 ml of water and an injection of hypotonic agent, perfusion scan was adopted in sixteen multi- slice spiral CT (MSCT) with 60 s of cine duration.Data were analyzed by a commercial software to cal- culate tumor blood flow (BF),blood volume (BV),mean pass time (MTT) and permeability surface (PS).Microvessl density (MVD) was evaluated by using immunohistochemical staining of surgical specimens with anti-CD34.All these findings were prospectively analyzed and correlated with the clinicopathological find- ings (histological grading, presence of lymph node metastasis, serous involvement,TNM staging and MVD). Results There was significant difference of PS value not only between patients with and without lymphatic in- volvement (P<0.05),but also in different histological grade (P<0.05) and TNM staging (P>0.05). However BF,BV,MTT and MVD of gastric cancer revealed no significant correlation with the clinicopatholog- ical findings above (P>0.05).Condusion The analysis of CT perfusion imaging in gastric cancer, especially PS value, might be helpful in predicting the prognosis.

RESUMEN

Objective The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the clinical value of double-contrast barium(DCB) combined with CT in the diagnosis of gastric carcinoma. Methods 112 patients with gastric carcinoma confirmed by surgery and pathology between 1990 and 1997 were included.69 patients took DCB of the upper gastric intestinal tract.43 patients were given CT scans,in whom 32 patients took DCB before CT.Results The accuracy of gastric carcinoma staging determined by DCB were 91.3%.The accordant rate of gross type of gastric carcinoma determined by DCB and the combined way were respectively 67.74% and 72.41%,superior to CT(47.22%,?

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of PDGF and PDGFR and MVC in human gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression of PDGF and PDGFR in 57 cases with gastric carcinoma was detected by immunohistochemical method of avidin-biotin complex in formalin-fixed and routinely paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Results The expression of PDGF and PDGFR was significantly related to the infiltrative depth and regional lymph nodes metastasis of gastric carcinoma. The positive rates of PDGF and PDGFR in the cases with invasive depth over 2/3 muscular layer were 61 8% and 58 8% respectively, which were obviously higher than those(26 1%, 26 1%) in the ones with invasive depth less 2/3 muscular layer(P
