RESUMEN

ABSTRACT The purpose of this work was to perform by Whole Genomic Sequencing (WGS) a characterization of tuberculosis isolates circulating in the central region of Veracruz, Mexico, and to determine its geographical distribution. The genome of 25 clinical isolates of tuberculosis patients, recovered from central zone of Veracruz, Mexico, were sequenced and the information obtained was used to characterize lineage, prediction of drug resistance, identification of clonal complexes, and finally correlated with the geolocalization data. Isolates analyzed were included into seven L4 sublineages, most frequent was X3; X1 (4.1.1.3) in 35%. rpoBSer450Leu polymorphism was the most frequently found variant. Sublineage Haarlem (4.1.2) had the widest distribution, found in five municipalities. Of the of two clonal complexes found, the most abundant included eight isolates, with X3/X1 lineage, placed in two municipalities. Combination of WGS and geographic information system was very useful for the identification of sublineages, clonal complexes, and their geographical dispersion with important implications in the epidemiological surveillance and clinical control of TB.

Abstract In the current epidemiological scenario, the participation of chronic non-communicable diseases as the cause of death prevails. Among them, obesity is experiencing rapid and steady growth, a fact that has earned it the name of pandemic. Its study from a territorial perspective provides strategic tools for the knowledge and management of the territory. The purpose of this work was to characterize the spatial distribution of obesity and childhood cardiometabolic risk in Tucumán (Argentina). To this end, during 2015, an exploratory-descriptive study was carried out. Through an anthropometric study, prevalence of obesity and cardiometabolic risk were determined in schoolchildren aged between 8 and 12. Primary data were aggregated at census tracts level and spatial indicators of obesity and cardiometabolic risk were developed for the elaboration of thematic cartography. Statistical analysis was carried out with SPSS 25, in the case of anthropometric data, and QGIS 3.18 was applied for spatial analysis. The study showed that the spatialization of the obesity and cardiometabolic risk indicators detected particularities in the studied contexts, illustrating territorial disparities. So we can conclude that nutritional cartography constitutes an input that can be used in territorial planning of health care. From a prospective perspective, georeferenced nutritional information could lead to specific recommendations for healthy land management and planning.

Abstract Introduction: Promoting breast cancer (BC) detection in women by means of mammography is a viable strategy to reduce the number of diagnoses at clinically advanced stages and mortality. Objectives: To describe the results reported by mammography studies in women, carried out nationally during 2013-2017, and to analyze the spatiotemporal trend of Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) categories suggestive of malignancy by State. Method: Longitudinal, analytical design that included information on mammography studies of women according to age group (< 40 and ≥ 40), evaluated in units of the Ministry of Health of Mexico during 2013-2017. The frequency of BIRADS categories and a standardized rate suggestive of malignancy (categories 4 and 5) were estimated in women aged ≥ 40 years, and spatial statistics were used to analyze the trend by State. Results: A total of 3,659,151 mammograms were analyzed, 98.5 % in women aged ≥ 40 years. The malignancy-suggestive rate decreased from 38.3 (2013) to 31 (2017) per 100,000 women aged ≥ 40 years; however, the risk of detection increased up to 13 times in ten States. Conclusions: Although the risk of detection in categories suggestive of malignancy decreased at the national level, some States need to reinforce the application of BC detection programs through mammography and increase the participation of the target population.

RESUMEN

Objective To preliminarily discuss the feasibility of geolocation inference of forensic individual origin by soil metagenomic analysis. Methods The 33 soil samples from Heilongjiang, Qinghai and Tibet were collected, total bacterial DNA in the samples were extracted, and universal primers were used to amplify the V3 and V4 hypervariable region of bacterial 16S rDNA. The region was sequenced by high-throughput sequencing (HTS) with the MiSeq sequencer. Bioinformatics analysis such as species composition and sample comparison was performed on sequencing data. The richness index and diversity index were calculated based on operational taxonomic unit (OTU) results. Results A total of 2 720 149 sequences were generated by sequencing. Those sequences were clustered into 114 848 OTUs. The Chao1 indexes of soil microorganisms in Heilongjiang, Qinghai, and Tibet were 797.45, 745.11 and 535.98, respectively, and Shannon indexes were 6.46, 6.36 and 6.25, respectively. The number of bacterial species and the community diversity in the soil from high to low were Heilongjiang > Qinghai > Tibet. The composition of soil bacteria in three provinces at various classification levels were obtained, the dominant genuses in Heilongjiang were Chthoniobacteraceae DA101 and an unannotated genus of Thermogemmatisporaceae; the dominant genuses in Qinghai were an unannotated genus of Cytophagaceae and an unannotated genus of Nocardioidaceae; the dominant genuses in Tibet were an unannotated genus of Comamonadaceae and Verrucomicrobiaceae Luteolibacter. The results of principal co-ordinates analysis demonstrated that, according to the weighted UniFrac analysis, the three principle components represented 56.36% of the total variable, and according to the unweighted UniFrac analysis, the three principle components represented 34.81% of the total variable. The samples from the same province could be clustered together, and the species and content of soil microorganisms from different provinces were significantly different. Conclusion Based on the metagenomic analysis method, soil samples from different regions can be effectively distinguished, which has potential application value in geolocation inference of forensic individual origin in the future.

The identification of regions with high rates of infection can be of great use in the control of malaria. For this reason, hospitals in endemic regions seek to know the places previously visited by patients. However, such information, obtained through questionnaires provided to patients, is usually vague, inaccurate and not integrated into databases. This makes the process manual, slow and of little value in large-scale epidemiological studies. Based on the fact that a significant portion of the population has smartphones equipped with GPS, this project aims to improve the accuracy and organization of the process of collecting geolocation data from infected patients. The Sickness Positioning System (https://sipos.fcf.usp.br) was developed so that patients who arrive at hospitals can, with voluntary consent, provide the GPS data collected by their smartphones. User data, which is handled anonymously, is automatically processed and securely stored. Through the SiPoS Explorer system (https://sipos.fcf.usp.br/explorer), epidemiologists and public health experts can explore and analyze geolocation data, thereby allowing vulnerable regions to be prioritized during control campaigns
