Análisis histórico de la superación profesional de los tecnólogos de la salud en laboratorio clínico / Historical analysis of the professional upgrading of health technologists in clinical laboratory

El objetivo de la investigación fue realizar el análisis histórico tendencial de la superación profesional de técnicos y tecnólogos de la salud en Laboratorio Clínico, en Camagüey. El método histórico y lógico permitió estudiar las tendencias históricas acerca de la superación profesional con enfoque interdisciplinario, en su devenir histórico, y comprender la esencia de su desarrollo, en correspondencia con el marco histórico concreto en que se ha desarrollado, así como sus condicionamientos e implicaciones sociales. Se concluye que en las etapas identificadas a partir de los indicadores establecidos, se producen transformaciones importantes en la superación profesional de técnicos y tecnólogos de la salud en Laboratorio Clínico, aunque todavía resultan insuficientes las acciones en el proceso de superación profesional, lo que influye en la cultura general y en el desempeño profesional del laboratorista clínico.

The objective of this research was to make a historical analysis of the trends of the professional upgrading of clinical laboratory technicians and technologists in Camaguey province. The historical and logical method made it possible to study the historical trends of the professional upgrading with an inter-disciplinary approach in their historical transformation and to understand the essence of their development in line with the specific historical context in which they appear as well as their conditioning and social implications. It is concluded that, according to set indicators, important changes occur during the identified stages in the professional upgrading of clinical laboratory technicians and technologists, although the actions to encourage professional upgrading of this staff are lacking, which has an impact on the general culture and the professional performance of the clinical laboratory worker.

The Emergence of the North Texas Korean American Nurses Society and its Contributions to Korean Immigrant Societies in the U.S / 간호행정학회지

PURPOSE: To describe the emergence of the North Texas Korean American Nurses Society (NTKANS) and to examine its sociocultural contributions to Korean immigrant societies in the U.S. for the last half century. METHODS: The study used retrospective historical analysis to explore the first North Texas Korean immigrant nurses' footsteps. Using Christy's historical research methodology, this study explored themes found in the NTKANS Minutes, the directories, and newspapers, and compared them with historical nursing contexts found in documents, immigrant nurse's pictures, and letters. Interviews with twenty first immigrant Korean nurses, the members, were also used as main data. RESULTS: Since its emergence in 1969, the NTKANS have contributed to local Korean societies through community medical services, financial supports to local Korean associations, local publications, and opening Korean school. In addition, the society has contributed to the other Korean immigrant nursing societies in the U.S. CONCLUSION: The sociocultural contributions NTKANS had made to Korean immigrant societies were not possible without its members' enormous efforts, personal struggles, and altruistic dedications. The trials and tribulations these immigrant nurses have overcome and the achievements they made for last half century would greatly inspire students and nurses in Korea who may seek international leadership and scholarship.

A emergência do transtorno de personalidade borderline: uma visão comportamental / The emergence of borderline personality disorder: a behavioral view

No fim do século passado, o transtorno de personalidade borderline se estabeleceu como umacategoria importante na psicopatologia. Emergiu dentro da abordagem psicanalítica, num contextohistórico específico que o possibilitou e conquistou em poucas décadas um lugar importante napsiquiátrica oficial. De um conceito opaco e questionado nas margens da nosologia, transformou-senum diagnóstico que, sustentado pela autoridade do DSM, se aplica a uma percentagem importante da população psiquiátrica. Além disso, um tratamento comportamental foi empiricamente validado como terapia de preferência para este transtorno. Uma vez que o significado de um termo é função da história da comunidade em que emergiu, torna-se primordial reportar ao comportamento dos cientistas da época e de suas práticas para a produção do conhecimento. Nesta revisão da literatura, consideramos o conceito de borderline como produto de contextos sociais complexos que geraram mudanças na teoria clínica. Examinamos as origens destas mudanças em dois sentidos. O primeiro é a emergência do conceito diagnóstico borderline na literatura, tanto dentro da psicanálise como dentro da psiquiatria. O segundo é a possibilidade de entender a referida patologia, como resultado dos contextos interpessoais e familiares da modernidade. Sugere-se que é esta análise que tornou o conceito acessível à terapia comportamental.

At the end of the past century, borderline personality disorder was established as an important category in psychopathology. A specific historical context made its emergence possible within psychoanalysis. In a few decades, it transformed from an opaque and questionable concept at the fringes of psychodynamic theory, into a respectable diagnosis that, sustained by DSM authority, is applied to an important percentage of the psychiatric population. A behavioral therapy was empirically validated as the treatment of choice for this disorder. Considering that the meaning of a term is determined by the history of the verbal community that uses it, we went back to the practices of knowledge production of the scientists of the epoch. This made it possible to understand the borderline concept as a product of social contexts that engendered changes in clinical theory. Weexamine these changes in two senses. First, we look at the emergence of the diagnostic concept in the respective literatures of psychoanalysis and of psychiatry. Second, we try to understand the salience of the borderline personality pattern as the result of the interpersonal contexts of the modern age. We suggest that this analysis is necessary to make sense of the concept within the behavioral view.

Japan is now faced with the highest population of aged persons it has ever experienced in its history. This has brought about a financial crisis in the National Health Insurance program. It has become impossible to discuss health maintenance, medicine and welfare without bringing in national policy and economic issues. The present confused status of the medical system in Japan means that the Classical era has ended for this system, and a new phase has begun.<br>In this paper, the author attempted to review the past history of Kampo medicine, especially around the Meiji era when Kampo medicine was eliminated from the medical education system. The author then analyzed the present situation and problems, and discussed the future of Kampo medicine.
