Interventional Management of Esophagorespiratory Fistula

An esophagorespiratory fistula (ERF) is an often fatal consequence of esophageal or bronchogenic carcinomas. The preferred treatment is placement of esophageal and/or airway stents. Stent placement must be performed as quickly as possible since patients with ERFs are at a high risk for aspiration pneumonia. In this review, choice of stents and stenting area, fistula reopening and its management, and the long-term outcome in the interventional management of malignant ERFs are considered. Lastly, a review of esophagopulmonary fistulas will also be provided.

Enhance the effect of interventional technique in the treatment of gynaecologic and obstetrics diseases: based on strict indication and regular procedure / 介入放射学杂志

Interventional techniques have been applicated extensively in the treatment of gynaecologic and obsterics diseases, such as the embolization therapy of the postpartum massive hemorrhage, uterine fibroids and adenomyosis, interventions of fallopian tube pregnancy etc. Though the advantages of interventional techniques in the treatment of gynaecologic and obsterics diseases are obviously revealed and accepted, the strict indication and regular maneuver to reduce the complications are still to be emphasized. The history and current status of interventional and minimall invasive technique in bones and joints are reviewed. The common interventional techniques such as percutaneous bone biopsy, interventions for disc herniation and percutaneous vertebroplasty have been commented. It is believed that there are a lot of spaces to be developed for these intervention techniques although possessing long history over other interventional field like vascular interventions.

Opportunity of interventional radiology:advantages and application of interventional technique in biological target therapy / 介入放射学杂志

Interventional techniques not only provide opportunity of treatment for many diseases,but also alter the traditional therapeutic pattern.With the new century of wide application of biological therapies, interventional technique also shows extensive roles.The current biological therapy,including gene therapy, cell transplantation therapy,immunobiologic molecule therapy containing cell factors,tumor antibody or vaccine,recombined proteins,radioactive-particles and targeting materials therapy,can be locally administrated by interventional techniques.The combination of targeting biological therapies and high-targeted interventional technique holds advantages of minimal invasion,accurate delivery,vigorous local effect,and less systemic adverse reactions.Authors believe that the biological therapy may arise a great opportunity for interventional radiology,therefore interventional colleagues should grasp firmly and promptly for the development and extension in this field.(J Intervent Radiol,2007,16:73-74)
