RESUMEN

Marine traditional Chinese medicine (MCM) is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It has a long history of clinical application and shows its unique advantages. The basic and industrial research represented by MCM seaweed has produced remarkable economic and social benefits, which provides a model for the comprehensive development and utilization of MCM resources. The current situation of exploitation and utilization of MCM resources is systematically discussed, and the strategies and methods of comprehensive exploitation and utilization of MCM resources are put forward. By constructing a full-value industrial chain of MCM resources, applying new technologies and new methods, and combining production, teaching and research with collaborative innovation, the utilization rate of MCM resources can be significantly improved, and the innovation level of marine biomedical industry can be raised. The implementation of the strategy of strengthening the country will promote the development of China's marine economy.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the curative effect of kelp micro gelation (KGM) for bronchi arterial chemoembolization (BACE) combined with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for central lung cancer. Methods 60 patients pathologically confirmed as the central lung cancer were enrolled and performed with BACE+KGM after the tumor-feeding artery was confirmed.RFA was performed under local anesthesia 1 month later.1 month,3 months and 6 months after the treatments CT scan was performed to show the changes of the tumor.Tumor markers were detected by blood test 1 month before and after the treatments.Up to the end of this study.Improvements of clinical symptoms and complications were also evaluated. Results Among the 60 patients under the treatment of BACE+KMG+RFA,10 patients had a complete remission(CR),33 patients in partial remission (PR),11 patients in stable (SD) and 6 patients in progress (PD).1 month after the treatments,VEGFA,VEGFB,VEGFC,CEA,CA125 and CA19-9 were significantly decreased, with the overall reactive rate (ORR) of 71.67%,disease control rate (DCR) of 90.00%,18.33% of no change,10.00 % progressing and the 2 year survival rate was 93.33 %.Conclusion BACE+KMG combined RFA is an effective treatment for central lung cancer with better short-term and long-term effect, improving the life quality and survival time of patients significantly.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect and its mechanism of pathogenicity of streptozotocin diseased rats treated by the mixture of kelp extract, wolfberry, and Chinese yam. Methods Streptozotocin-diabetic rat model were taken the mixture of kelp extract, wolfberry and Chinese yam with the ratio of 1:1:1 by intragastric administration. positive control group was fed metformin of 83.5mg/kg, the control group and the model group were given the same amount of distilled water. The safety of high dose (1500 mg) of the mixture therapy for the normal rat were evaluated, their blood glucose levels, glucose tolerance, body weight and insulin levels were observed and its possible mechanism were analyzed. Results Compared with the model group, the disease diabetic rats of the administered group (250mg/kg,500mg/kg,1500mg/kg) were significantly alleviated. First of all, coat color was more shiny, the behavior were more physical agility. Followed by the decrease of blood glucose levels and AUC, and body weight and insulin levels were elevated. In cell experiments, the number of islet cells was increased in the administered group by the mixture in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion The mixture of kelp extract, wolfberry, and Chinese yam had obvious hypoglycemic effect. The hypoglycemic activity of the mixture may be attributed to increase insulin secretion through inhibit apoptosis of islet β-cells.

RESUMEN

We report the case of a middle aged woman who was previously diagnosed with hypertension. She had been drinking a kelp concentrate solution daily for her hypertension instead of taking the prescribed medicine due to her personal beliefs about the kelp solution. As a consequence, she experienced vasospastic angina complicated by myocardial infarction and cardiogenic syncope resulting from iatrogenic thyrotoxicosis. Complementary medicine is widely used by the general population. However, there is still a lack of evidence regarding their efficacy and safety. This case shows that inadequate use of complementary medicine could have no effect and may even be harmful. In patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension, self-care in the form of life style modification, home blood pressure monitoring and medial adherence are important for disease management.

RESUMEN

Background: Salmonella can be isolated from the feces of seagulls. Therefore these birds can be a vector for dissemination of this pathogen. Aim: To evaluate the possible role of gulls as vectors of two important human and animal pathogens (My-cobacteria and Salmonella). Material and Methods: One hundred twenty three Kelp gull (Larus dominicanus) and 60 Franklin gulls (Leucophaeus pipixcan) captured off the coast of the seaport of Talcahuano, were analyzed. Using traditional microbiological methods, the presence of Mycobacteria in cloacal swabs and feet lavages, was analyzed in both types of gulls. To detect the presence of Salmonella, feces, fecal and tracheal swabs, and feet lavage were analyzed from Franklin gulls. Feces, feet lavage, intestine, spleen, liver, kidney and lung, were examined in Kelp gulls. Results: All Mycobacteria cultures were negative. Salmonella enterica cultures were positive in 25 % of Kelp gulls and 6.7 % of Franklin gulls. Four serovars were identified by serotyping. Enteritidis and Senfteberg serovars were found in both types of gulls. Anatum and Infantis serovars were found only in Kelp gulls. Feces of gulls captured during the winter had the highest yield of positive cultures (36.1%). Conclusions: Seagulls are an important Salmonella vector in Chile.

RESUMEN

This paper observed the influence of water-soluble Chitosan on the growth of bacteria cultured in vitro with solid medium. The results showed that Escherichia coli、staphylo- coccus aureus、Bacillus subtillus、Sarcina and Actinomyces5406 could be inhibited to different degrees by Chitosan with certain concertrations. The corresponding MIC Were 0. 5%、0. 3%、 0. 5%、0. 3% and 0. 5%. The results also showed that Chitosan had stable antibacterial action after being treated with heat and it could keep instant flavouring kelp fresh and antiseptic.
