Acceptance and effectiveness of the Healthier Choice Logo (HCL) among food industries in Malaysia

@#Introduction: The Healthier Choice Logo (HCL) was introduced in 2017 by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. This paper analysed acceptance of HCL, effectiveness of HCL in encouraging healthier product reformulation, and factors affecting reformulation among food industries. Methods: An online self-administered questionnaire consisting of four sections utilising multiple choice and 5-point Likert scale questions was distributed to food industries in Malaysia. Sample size calculation yielded 100 respondents. Results: Food industries had a higher acceptance of the processes and requirements involved in HCL implementation. HCL was highly effective in encouraging product reformulation among food industries in Malaysia. Meeting consumer demand, improving brand image, public health, more awareness around nutrition labelling, logo and national nutrition target, more technical knowledge and budget were found to motivate healthier product reformulation. However, product suitability, consumer acceptability, difficulties maintaining taste and shelf life, and limited budget were the challenges faced in product reformulation. There was no correlation between HCL acceptance and factors encouraging or inhibiting reformulation. Conclusion: These findings are expected to help relevant authorities or stakeholders make changes, if necessary, towards processes and requirements involved in HCL application to ensure wider HCL implementation. Future research should identify the relationship between HCL implementation and public health improvement among the Malaysian population.

Auriculoterapia y tratamiento habitual en niños con tartamudez en Municipio Matanzas. Año 2017 / Auriculotherapy and habitual treatment in children with stuttering in the municipality of Matanzas. 2017

RESUMEN Introducción: se realizó un estudio experimental, longitudinal, prospectivo sobre el tratamiento de los niños con tartamudez con el tratamiento habitual y la adición de auriculoterapia en el Centro Auditivo Provincial en Matanzas entre enero y diciembre del 2017. Objetivo: comparar la evolución clínica de los pacientes con el tratamiento habitual y con la adición de auriculoterapia. Materiales y métodos: el universo del estudio fue de 14 pacientes con tartamudez. Según la llegada de los pacientes a consulta los mismos fueron ubicados alternativamente en dos grupos, uno control que se trató con tratamiento habitual y otro experimental, donde se aplicó el tratamiento habitual más la auriculoterapia. Fue elaborada la historia clínica con una evaluación logofoniátrica antes y después del tratamiento. Resultados: el 64,3% de los pacientes correspondió al grupo etáreo de 6-9 años, predominó el sexo masculino con 57,1 % y raza blanca con 64,3%. Los síntomas y signos más frecuente antes del tratamiento fueron la conciencia de sus dificultades en el 100 % de los pacientes y la ansiedad en 92,8%. Después del tratamiento en el grupo experimental hubo mayor disminución de la ansiedad con 28,6% y el 71,4% de este grupo consideró su evolución satisfactoria. Conclusión: en ambos grupos de estudio predominó la edad entre 6 y 9 años, el sexo masculino, la raza blanca y los síntomas y signos más frecuentes fueron: la conciencia de sus dificultades y la ansiedad. En pacientes del grupo experimental la evolución fue más satisfactoria y hubo una mayor reducción de la ansiedad (AU).

SUMMARY Introduction: a prospective, longitudinal experimental study on the treatment of children with stuttering using the habitual treatment and the addition of Auriculotherapy in the Provincial Auditory Center in Matanzas, from January to December 2017. Objective: to compare the clinical evolution of the patients with the habitual treatment and with the addition of auriculotherapy. Materials and methods: the universe of study was 14 patients with stuttering. According to the arrival of the patients to the consultation they were alternatively located in two groups, a control one treated with the customary treatment, and an experimental one treated with the usual treatment plus auriculotherapy. The clinical records were elaborated with a logo-phoniatric assessment before and after treatment. Results: 64.3 % of patients were in the 6-9 years-old age group; male sex and white race predominated, with 57.1 % and 64.3 % respectively. The most frequent symptoms and signs before treatment were the consciousness of their difficulties in 100 % of patients, and anxiety in 92.8 % of them. After treatment, there it was a higher diminution of anxiety for 28.6 % in the experimental group, and 71.4 % of them considered satisfactory their evolution. Conclusion: age between 6 and 9 years, male sex and white race predominated in both groups; the most frequent symptoms and signs were the consciousness of their difficulties and anxiety. In the experimental group the evolution was satisfactory and the reduction of anxiety was higher (AU).

Employment of the 18s rRNA screening PCR technique in the detection of Equine Piroplasmosis, in horses of sports and military operations, of the Brazilian Army / Emprego da técnica de PCR para triagem da região do genoma 18s rRNA, detecção de Piroplasmose em equinos de desporto e operações militares do Exército Brasileiro

The present work had the objective of detecting the occurrence of Equine Piroplasmosis in horses housed in the 3rd Guards Cavalry Regiment (GCR) - Brazilian Army (BA) ˗ Porto Alegre, RS-Brazil, as well as to demonstrate the proactivity of PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) technique, aiming at the judicious use of the resources involved in the training and employment of Equines in the Brazilian Army. Fifty horses of the 3rd GCR - Porto Alegre ˗ RS, which are employed for Sport, Military Ceremonial, Law and Order Guarantee Operations (LOGO), were evaluated by means of the 18s r RNA screening with PCR technique, thirty eight horses with Babesia Caballi and Theileria Equi were detected, which corresponds to an incidence of 76% of the horses effective analyzed at the time. In this way, it can be verified that the Military activity have its "performance and effectiveness" factors threatened in case the health of the principal of his means employed, that is the horse, is compromised. The PCR technique then offers a reliable and feasible tool for the detection of Equine Piroplasmosis in BA horses.(AU)

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo detectar a ocorrência de Piroplasmose equina em cavalos alojados no 3º Regimento de Cavalaria de Guarda (RCG) - Exército Brasileiro (EB) - Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil, bem como demonstrar a forma proativa do método da PCR (reação em cadeia de polimerase), objetivando o uso criterioso dos recursos envolvidos no treinamento e emprego de equinos no Exército Brasileiro. Foram avaliados 50 cavalos da 3ª GCR-Porto Alegre, RS, empregados nas modalidades de: esporte, cerimonial militar e operações de garantia da lei e da ordem (GLO), por meio da triagem da região do genoma 18S rRNA mediante a aplicação do método da PCR. Foram positivas as amostras de 38 equinos para Babesia caballi e Theileria Equi, o que corresponde a uma incidência de 76% dos cavalos efetivos analisados na época. Dessa forma, verifica-se que as atividades militares tem seus fatores de "desempenho e efetividade" ameaçados no caso da saúde do principal de seus meios empregados, o Cavalo, estar comprometida. A técnica de PCR, então, oferece uma ferramenta confiável e viável para a detecção de Piroplasmose em equinos do EB.(AU)

Linfoma no hodgkiniano parecido al Burkitt / No hodgkin lymphoma burkitt-like

El linfoma no hodgkiniano parecido al Burkitt es considerado una neoplasia de células B altamente agresiva, con un alto índice de proliferación. Las presentaciones en forma de masas tumorales abdominales no son muy frecuentes y están poco documentadas en la literatura. Se reporta un caso poco usual de un paciente adulto joven con linfoma no hodgkiniano parecido al Burkitt, con infiltración del colon derecho, tratado con poliquimioterapia asociada a la administración de anticuerpo monoclonal anti-CD20, con lo que se alcanzó la remisión completa de la enfermedad. Posteriormente esta respuesta se consolidó con esquemas intensivos de quimioterapia y trasplante de progenitores hematopoyético autólogo. Actualmente se mantiene asintomático y sin tratamiento(AU)

The Burkitt-like lymphoma is considered a highly aggressive B-cell lymphoma, with a high proliferative rate. Presentation with extensive mass intestinal involvement is rare and poorly documented in the literature. We report the case of a young adult with the Burkitt-like lymphoma, and presenting extensive infiltration of the right colon, who receives chemotherapy treatment associated with administration of anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, achieves complete remission of the illness and consolidation with intensive chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation. Currently the patient is asymptomatic and without treatment(AU)

Se presenta un ensayo descriptivo acerca del vínculo existente entre la imagen pública y el emblema del Instituto Nacional de Perinatología Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes (INPer), a través del análisis de la imagen visual del logotipo/imagotipo de la ''Princesa 3 Pedernal Serpiente Emplumada''. Se retoma la revisión etnohistórica e iconográfica hecha por Moisés Morales-Suarez en 1996, así como el significado y justificación que diera el Dr. Jurado al uso de esta imagen, del Códice mixteco Nuttall como parte del Instituto. Contamos con un logotipo policromático que respeta su equilibrio, balance y armonía inicial. El análisis de color muestra el predominio del naranja, verde y rojo que representan la energía, la fuerza de voluntad y la sexualidad, respectivamente. El mensaje denotativo está constituido por la tipografía en tono negro oscuro que muestra elegancia, sobriedad y seriedad. El mensaje connotativo es el estudio del significado de la imagen que no sólo se queda en protografismos, sino realmente muestra pictogramas e ideogramas, que buscaban la expresión de la vida cotidiana y el pensamiento de nuestros antepasados a través de una estructura pictográfica, ideográfica y fonética con secuencia lógica. Se concluye que es de gran importancia que nuestro logotipo esté respaldado por un Manual de Identidad Visual Corporativa, pues actualmente se carece de lineamientos para una correcta reproducción de la identidad gráfica institucional.

A descriptive essay presented about the existing link between Public Image and the emblem of the Instituto Nacional de Perinatología Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes (INPer) across the analysis of the visual image of the logotype/image type of the ''Princesa 3 Pedernal Sepiente Emplumada''. The purpose is to revitalize the ethno-historic and iconographic review done by Moses Morales-Suarez in 1996, as well as the meaning and validation that Dr. Jurado gave to the use of this image of the Codex mixteco Nuttall, as part of the Institute. We have a multi-chromatic logo that respects its balance, equilibrium and initial harmony. Color analysis, shows the predominance of orange, green and red, that represent the energy, the will power and the sexuality, respectively. The denoting message is constituted by the typography in dark black tone that shows elegance, sobriety and seriousness. The connotative message is the study of the meaning of the image, which not only remains in proto-graphemes, but really shows pictograms and ideograms, that were looking for the expression of the daily life and the thought of our ancestors across a pictographic, ideographical and phonetic structure with logical sequence. In conclusion it is of great importance that our logo is endorsed by a Visual Corporate Identity Manual, since nowadays we lack limits for a correct reproduction of the graphical institutional identity.
