INTRODUCCIÓN: Para mitigar la propagación del SARS-CoV-2 se requirió de un confinamiento generalizado. Las autoridades argentinas impusieron aislamiento social preventivo durante 234 días (20 de marzo al 9 de noviembre de 2020), modificando el estilo de vida de la población. OBJETIVOS: Examinar la influencia de las medidas de bloqueo en el perfil metabólico de pacientes infectados por VIH en Argentina. PACIENTES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio de cohorte retrospectivo de 10.239 pacientes en seguimiento en una clínica de atención privada de personas con infección por VIH. Se incluyeron pacientes adultos con terapia antirretroviral (TARV) en curso que tuvieran una determinación de glucemia, colesterol total, colesterol HDL y trigliceridemia antes de la cuarentena (Pre-C: segundo semestre 2019) y una segunda determinación durante la misma (Intra-C: mayo 2020). Se excluyeron los pacientes con cambios en la TARV con impacto metabólico, los que iniciaron o suspendieron hipolipemiantes o hipoglucemiantes y mujeres embarazadas. Las variables categóricas se compararon mediante la prueba de la χ2 o la prueba exacta de Fisher y las continuas mediante la prueba t o la prueba de Mann-Whitney según correspondiera. Se consideró significativo un valor de p a dos colas < 0,05. RESULTADOS: Se incluyeron 540 individuos. La mediana de edad fue de 47 años y 74,6% fueron de sexo masculino. La mediana de índice de masa corporal fue 26,1 y 94,6% tenían bajo riesgo cardiovascular. Hubo un aumento significativo en el porcentaje de pacientes con hiperglucemia (Pre-C 5,2% vs Intra-C 8,5%, p 0,04), hipertrigliceridemia (Pre-C 33,9% vs Intra-C 40,7%, p 0,02) e hipercolesterolemia LDL (Pre-C 12,6% vs Intra-C 17,2%, p 0,04). CONCLUSIÓN: Nuestros resultados sugieren que la cuarentena, al menos en sus fases iniciales, puede tener un impacto negativo en el perfil metabólico de esta población.


BACKGROUND: The spread of SARS-CoV-2 required widespread lockdown to mitigate the pandemic. Argentine authorities imposed preventive social isolation for 234 days (March 20th to November 9th 2020). This measure led to major changes in the population's lifestyle. AIM: To examine the influence of COVID-19 lockdown measures on the metabolic profile of HIV-infected patients in Argentina. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of 10,239 HIV-infected patients under follow up in a private clinic for HIV care. Adult patients with ongoing antiretroviral therapy (ART) and a baseline determination of blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides done before lockdown (BL: second semester of 2019) and a second determination during lockdown (DL: May 2020) were included. Patients with recent changes in ART that may have metabolic impact, those starting lipid/glucose lowering agents and pregnant women were excluded. Categorical variables were compared using the χ2 test or Fisher's exact test, and continuous variables using the t-test or the Mann-Whitney test. A two-tailed value of p < 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS: 540 individuals were included, median of age was 47 years and 74.6% were male. Median body mass index was 26.1 and 94.6% had low cardiovascular risk. There was a significant increase in the percentage of patients that met criteria for hyperglycemia (BL 4.8% and DL 8.5%, p < 0.001). We also observed significant (p < 0.001) increase in median (IQR) BL vs DL values in LDL-cholesterol [109 (90-128) vs 118 (97-139) mg/dL]; and triglycerides [120 (87-172) vs. 132 mg/dL (96-184)]. The proportion of patients with hyper-LDL cholesterolemia according to individual cardiovascular risk increased from 12.6 to 17.2% (p = 0.04). CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that quarantine, at least in its initial phases, may have a negative impact on the metabolic profile of this population.

Introducción: Durante el ciclo de vida de los individuos son imprescindibles intervenciones para detectar y reducir el riesgo y las complicaciones de las enfermedades crónicas. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de valores de riesgo vascular de los principales indicadores del metabolismo glucídico y lipídico en adolescentes y ancianos de La Habana. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio transversal en una muestra conformada por adolescentes (469 de 12-16 años) aparentemente sanos y ancianos (395 de 65-100 años) sin diagnóstico de enfermedades asociadas a la alteración marcada del estado nutricional y metabólico. Ambas poblaciones fueron evaluadas para glucosa, triglicéridos, colesterol total, colesterol de lipoproteinas de alta densidad y colesterol de lipoproteínas de baja densidad, séricos, mediante métodos enzimáticos convencionales. Se usaron rangos de riesgo referentes. Los resultados se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva. Resultados: En los adolescentes evaluados, los triglicéridos (35,6 por ciento) y el colesterol total (23,9 por ciento) mostraron las mayores frecuencias de valores de riesgo. En las hembras ambos marcadores se mantuvieron como los más elevados en ese orden, mientras que, en los varones, la glucosa (25,5 por ciento) secundó a los triglicéridos como indicadores más alterados. En ancianos, al colesterol de lipoproteínas de baja densidad (58,2 por ciento) y al colesterol total (48,6 por ciento) correspondieron las mayores frecuencias de cifras de riesgo, patrón que se repitió en cada sexo. Los valores promedio de los indicadores fueron marcadamente superiores en ancianos que, en adolescentes, excepto para glucosa y colesterol de lipoproteínas de alta densidad. Conclusiones: Los resultados obtenidos muestran una elevada prevalencia de valores de riesgo vascular de varios indicadores metabólicos evaluados en adolescentes y ancianos, lo que sugiere la necesidad de monitorear los indicadores analizados e implementar intervenciones modificadoras de sus valores hacia la reducción del riesgo asociado, desde etapas tempranas, como las previas a la adolescencia(AU)


Introduction: During the life cycle of individuals, interventions are essential to detect and reduce the risk and complications of chronic diseases. Objective: To determine the prevalence of vascular risk values of the main indicators of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in adolescents and elderlies in Havana. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample made up of apparently healthy adolescents (469; aged 12-16 years) and elderlies (395 aged 65-100 years) without a diagnosis of diseases associated with marked alteration of nutritional and metabolic status. Both populations were evaluated regarding serum glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol using conventional enzymatic methods. Reference risk ranges were used. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: In the evaluated adolescents, triglycerides (35.6 percent) and total cholesterol (23.9 percent) showed the highest frequencies of risk values. In females, both markers remained the highest in that aspect; while in males, glucose (25.5 percent) accounted second after triglycerides as the most altered indicators. In the elderlies, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (58.2 percent) and total cholesterol (48.6 percent) corresponded to the highest frequencies of risk values, a pattern that was repeated in each sex. The average values of the indicators were markedly higher in the elderlies than in adolescents, except for glucose and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Conclusions: The results obtained show high prevalence of vascular risk values of several metabolic indicators evaluated in adolescents and elderlies, which suggests the need to monitor the analyzed indicators and implement interventions to modify such values, in view of reducing the associated risk, from stages early, such as the pre-adolescence stage(AU)

Aim To explore the hypolipidemic mechanism of the total phenylpropanoid glycoside from Ligustrum robustum (Roxb. ) Blume (LRTPG) on hyperlipidemic hamsters using label-free quantitative proteomic technique. Methods The total protein was extracted from livers of model group and the group treated with LRTPG for label-free quantitative proteomics research. Results The proteomic data showed that a total of 2231 proteins were identified. And 549 proteins were found to be differentially expressed between model group and group treated with LRTPG. Among the 549 proteins, 93 proteins were up-regulated and 59 proteins were down-regulated, and 397 proteins had quantitative values only in model group or drug-administered group. Further, gene ontology (GO) analysis indicated that those differentially expressed proteins were primarily involved in an array of biological processes including metabolism, transport, oxidation-reduction, phosphorylation, signal transduction and lipid metabolism. KEGG pathway analysis revealed that these proteins were involved in several signal pathways including oxidative phosphorylation, non-alcoholic fatty liver dis-ease, PI3K-Akt, cAMP, and cGMP-PKG pathway. And some of these proteins were much related to the lipid metabolism, such as CD36, PK, HSS, GCK, ApoA I, Acly and FABP5. Conclusion The hypolipidemic effect of LRTPG may be related to CD36, PK, HSS, GCK, ApoA I, Acly and FABP5.

Introduction@#Studies demonstrated that the apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A-I (Apo B/apo A-I) ratio predicts cardiovascular risk better than any of the cholesterol indexes. Apo B and Apo A-1 are assumed to be superiormarkers for lipoprotein abnormalities [1,2]. The concentrations of Apo B and Apo A-1 are associated with cardiovascular disease more strongly than the corresponding lipoprotein cholesterol fractions, the discriminant value of these apoproteins in absolute terms appears to be less important than of their ratio (the Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio) [3, 5-7]. The Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio reflects the balance of atherogenic and antiatherogenic lipoproteins in plasma [4]. Multiple clinical and epidemiological studies have confirmed that the Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio is a superior marker for cardiovascular disease compared with lipids and lipoproteins or their ratios [8, 9].@*Goal@#We determined the variation limits of the Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio in healthy participants with normolipidemia and the relationship of this ratio with other lipid parameters.@*Material and Methods@#A total of 146 normolipidemic healthy participants aged 25–60 years were included in the study. Anthropometric measurements (height and weight) and other personal information were obtained during the clinical examination and the interview. Participants were included in the study using the following criteria: </br>1. body mass index < 30 kg/m2; </br> </br>2. TC < 5.2mmol/L; </br>3. triglycerides (TG) ≤1.7 mmol/L; </br>4. HDL-C ≥1.03 mmol/L ( woman), ≥ 1.29 mmol/L (male) . </br>The plasma levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), apo A-I, Apo B and Apo B/Apo A-1 were determined after a 12 h fasting period. The non-HDL-C was calculated as the difference between the TC and HDL-C. Most research data emphasized that the values for the Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio that define a high cardiovascular risk were proposed to be 0.9 for men and 0.8 for women. Statistical Analysis. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 21.0 (USA). Differences between the groups were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and the chi-squared test. Correlations between the indices were assessed using the Spearman’s rank correlation. A value of < 0.05 was accepted as statistically significant.@*Results@#The relationship of ratio of apolipoprotein (Apo) B/Apo A-1 with other indicators of lipid metabolism in healthy people with normal lipidemia was analyzed. The Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio in the studied normolipidemic subjects was 0.69 ± 0.17. The percentage of subjects with the Apo B/Apo A-1 ratio exceeding 0.9 (the accepted risk value of cardiovascular disease) was 36.3 %.The subjects with Apo B/Apo A-1>0.9 were characterized by higher HDL-C levels and atherogenic Aпo B, Apo B/Apo A-1 but lower values Apo A-1.@*Conclusion@#The subjects with normolipidemia the unfavorable Apo B/Apo A-I ratio> 0.9 had more atherogenic lipid profile.

RESUMEN

The inhibitory effect of NACOS on dyslipidemia and potential molecular mechanisms by in vitro and in vivo experiments were investigated. For in vitro study, four experimental groups were designed by using HepG2 cells, including the control group, palmitic acid (PA) treatment alone group, NACOS treatment alone group and NACOS + PA treatment group. For in vivo study, male C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups (n=5) at random including the normal control group (NCD), high fat diet (HFD) group, NACOS treatment alone group, NACOS+HFD group, which were treated for 20 weeks. The used methods in this study were as follows: the observation of lipid droplet deposition in HepG2 cells by oil red O staining, the detection of mRNA levels of lipid metabolism-related regulators and inflammatory cytokine by RT-PCR method, the monitoring of MAPKs and PI3K/Akt pathway activation by Western blotting method. The in vitro study shows that, NACOS had no toxicity on the viability of HepG2 cells at 25-100 μg/mL and significantly reduced the deposition of lipid droplet. Also, based on both in vitro and in vivo investigation, NACOS evidently down-regulated the expression of lipid metabolism-related regulators (PGC1α, Cox5b, Mcad) and inflammatory cytokine (IL-1β) at mRNA level (P<0.05 or 0.01), and suppressed the activation of p38, ERK1/2 and Akt in HepG2 cells and lever tissues from HFD-fed mice (P<0.05 or 0.01). Based on the above, NACOS may inhibit the oxidation of liver mitochondrial fatty acid and the lipid biosynthesis, block the inflammatory responses and prevent the HepG2 cells and C57BL/6 mice from lipidemia.

Objective To improve the serum quality controlling level ,in order to regularize and standardize the laboratory processes .Methods Gallery of hemolysis ,lipidemia or icterus serum specimens was established by Roche cobas p612 QSI camera system .The trouble serum specimens were screened out through taking photos of interfere serum and comparing with the gallery . The serum indexes of hemolysis ,lipidemia and icterus were detected respectively as reference information of inspection report .Com‐paring the results of 16 710 specimens detected by system screening and visual judgment ,the accuracy of QSI camera system was verified .Results 195 trouble serum pictures were elected in the gallery .The compliance rates of hemolysis ,lipidemia and icterus se‐rum specimen between QSI camera system and visual judgment were 94 .2% ,87 .4% ,and 60 .9% respectively .Conclusion The QSI camera system can replace visual judgment to screen the trouble serum specimens .

51 hypertension patients with lipidemia disorder were treated at Hospital of Military Traditional Medicine from April to September 2004. All patients were divided into 2 groups: The control group consisted of 19 patients who received Caropil 25mg tablet/ twice a day during 28 continuous days; the study group consisted of 32 patients who received a traditional recipe of TT2/per day divided into 2 times every 12 hours during 28 days. Among hypertension patients with primary lipidemia disorder and signs of phlegm wetness or and phlegm heat types, using a traditional recipe of T22/per day during continuous 28 days had effects of regulating the index of lipidemia: CT decrease of 14.9%; TG decrease of 27.5%; LDL-C decrease of 16.2%; the effects of increasing HDL-C were not significantly (increase of 6.5%).

Studying the relationship between obesity, blood pressure and dyslipidemia on 138 people (from 20 to 60 years old) who had health examination in Ha Tay hospital showed that the dyslipidemia rate was highest in age group of 41 to 50 years old (55.1%). Hyperlipidemia prevalence in the group subjects was 47.1%. Mean value of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in over weight people and people with degree I and degree II obese were the same. The percentage of overweight was 7.97 % in men and 16.67% in women. Degree I obesity was 2.17% in men and 6.52% in women. Rate of increasing total cholesterol combine with increasing triglycerides in overweight group was higher than that in control group (31.1% vs 12.9%). In term of risk factors effect on hyperlipidemia: BMI≥23 was 10.14% in men and 23.19% in women. Waist to buttock circumference ratio ≥0,95 in men was 6.52%. Waist to buttock circumference ratio ≥0.85 was 30.43%

RESUMEN

This intervention study was performed to assess the effect of spirulina on lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity, and immune function in elderly Koreans. The subjects were 6 male and 6 female people between the ages of 60 and 75, who were given spirulina supplements of 7.5 g/day for 24 weeks. Dietary intake, anthropometric measurements and biochemical assessment for plasma lipid levels, antioxidant status and immune function were measured before and throughout the intervention period. Before entering the study, the subjects were in relatively good health. Their nutrient intake was satisfactory, and anthropometric indices and plasma nutrient levels were within the normal range. Spirulina supplementation for 24 weeks did not affect dietary intake and anthropometric parameters. However, considerable changes were observed in blood lipid profiles, antioxidant capacity, and immune indices. The plasma concentrations of triglycerides, total- and LDL-cholesterol decreased from 4 weeks of the supplementation period. The antioxidant capacity improved, as shown in increasing TAS and decreasing TBARS after supplementation. Improved immune function was also observed as the PBL lymphocyte proliferation rate and plasma C3 levels increased. The above effects of spirulina supplementation did not differ between mild hypercholesterolemic (cholesterol > or =200mg/d1) and normochole-sterolemic (cholesterol <200 mg/dl) subjects. This study provided evidence that spirulina could be used as dietary supplementation in nutritionally vulnerable groups to improve nutritional and health status and to prevent chronic disease such as hyperlipidemia or oxidation-prone diseases. further studies in this area with various population groups are warranted.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the effects of melatonin on oxidative stress and metabolisms of glucose and lipid of diabetic patients.Methods By means of random,single-blind,placebo-parallel control clinical trial,91 of diabetic patients were randomly divided into melatonin group and placebo group.The parameters of Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-Px),Superoxide Dismutase(SOD)and Malondialdehyde(MDA),as well as the profiles of glycemia and lipidemia were observed before and after 8 weeks treatments,respectively.Results Before treatment,both the serum levels of GSH-Px and SOD of diabetic patients were decreased significantly,whereas the serum level of MDA increased significantly.After 8 weeks consecutive melatonin treatment,the serum levels of GSH-Px and SOD increased significantly,whereas the serum level of MDA decreased significantly compared with pre-treatment in the melatonin group.There were no significant variations of serum levels of GSH,SOD and MDA observed before and after treatment in the placebo group.There were significan benefit on FBG and HbA1c after 8 weeks treatment compared with pre-treatment.The other profile of glycemia and lipidemia such as PBG,TG,TC,LDL-C and HDL-C hed no significant variations compared with pre-treatment.There were no significant variations of the profiles of glycemia and lipidemia compared with pre-treatment in the placebo group.Conclusion Melatonin significantly inhibits oxidative stress provoked by hyperglycemia and has beneficial effects on the glucose homeostasis of diabetic patients.
