RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES@#To use virtual anatomy technique in the analysis of post-mortem characteristic changes of CT images in the experimental drowning rabbit model and the related parameters in 3D virtual model, so as to explore its application value in the diagnosis of drowning in forensic pathology.@*METHODS@#A model of drowning rabbits was established, with animal models of hemorrhagic shock and mechanical asphyxia as the controls. CT scan was performed on the experimental animals, and the differences in imaging features between the groups were compared by morphological reading of the tomographic images. CT data were imported into Mimics 14.0 software for 3D modeling. The CT values and lung volumes were calculated by the software, and the differences on CT values and lung volumes brought by different causes of death were analyzed.@*RESULTS@#The CT images of lungs in the drowning group showed characteristic ground-glass opacity (diffuse and uniform density increase). There were no obvious abnormalities in hemorrhagic shock group, and only a few similar changes were found in the mechanical asphyxia group. Compared with the controls, the CT values and the lung volumes in the drowning group were significantly increased P<0.05.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Based on post-mortem lung imaging, the combination of CT value and lung volume changes can effectively reflect the virtual anatomical features in drowning, and provide a diagnostic basis for the forensic identification of drowning.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) findings and their validity in patients with ischiofemoral impingement syndrome (IFI) . Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 55 hips. MRI findings of 30 hips were consistent with IFI syndrome. Twenty five hips had no MRI findings consistent with IFI syndrome. We compared the ischiofemoral space (IFS), quadratus femoris space (QFS), ischial angle (IA) and femoral neck angle (FNA) between the age and gender matched groups. We also analyzed edema, fatty replacement and partial or total rupture of quadratus femoris muscle. Mann Whitney U test was used to compare the data. Results: We observed atrophy in eight, fatty replacement also in eight and edema in all of the quadratus femoris muscle. QFS (p<0.001) and IFS (p<0.001) were significantly lower in patients as compared to the control group. IA (p=0.012) and FNA (p=0.010) values were significantly higher in patients compared with the control group. Conclusion: MRI findings of IFI include narrowing of QFS and IFS and increase in IA and FNA. This condition should be kept in mind for patients with hip pain. Level of Evidence III, Retrospective Study.

Regarding to the context of diabetes mellitus and the increasingly aging population number, it is relevant to study the process of evaluation of neuropathic pain associated to the diabetic foot syndrome in elderly people from a multidimensional point of view, due to the great impact on health and working systems, and people`s quality of life. The nursing valuation in this human group has a great importance in order to achieve a correct evaluation, valuation, and treatment of the pain on the elderly people who suffer from this syndrome. Methodology: Bibliographic revision about “Nursing Evaluation of neuropathic pain related to diabetic foot in elderly patients”. The information research was elaborated from data bases: Up to Date, Scopus, Medline, Envejecimiento en Red, Pubmed. The English and Spanish descriptors used on this research were: painful (dolor), pain (dolor), neuropathy (neuropatía), diabetic (diabetes), epidemiology (epidemiología). On the combination of these terms were used Boolean connectors: NOT, AND, OR. On the Spanish research were used the following descriptors: epidemiology, diabetes, Chile, pain, perception, aging, valuation, and nursing...
