RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to examine personality, resilience and satisfaction with nursing major and to explore their influences on nursing students' satisfaction with their major. METHODS: From March 15 to 30, 2018, self-report questionnaires were distributed and collected from 308 of nursing students in 2 colleges located in P-metropolitan city and K-province. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0. program. RESULTS: The mean score for personality was 3.71±0.45, for resilience, 3.28±0.36, and for satisfaction with major, 3.69±0.53. Satisfaction with major was positively correlated with personality (r=.44, p < .001) and resilience (r=.37 p < .001). Personality was positively correlated with resilience (r=.68 p < .001). The factors associated with satisfaction with major were personality (β=.34, p=.006), satisfaction with college life as ‘bad’ (β=−.25, p < .001), ‘moderate’ (β=−.19, p < .001), and ‘employment’ (β=−.14, p=.028) as motivation for nursing. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that personality, satisfaction with college life, and motivation for nursing were related to satisfaction with nursing as a major in nursing students. To increase the satisfaction with major for nursing students, it is necessary to build effective strategies to focus on promoting their personality, satisfaction with college life, and motivation for nursing.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate influences on employment preparation in dental hygiene students. METHODS: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 386 dental hygiene students in South Korea from November 1 to 30, 2016. For data analysis, the study used independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis, and regression analysis among others. RESULTS: Students with higher grades tended to have major satisfaction, instruction participation, and employment preparation (P < 0.001). Higher parental monthly income was related to higher major satisfaction (P < 0.001). Employment preparation was significantly positively related to major selection motive, major satisfaction, and instruction participation. CONCLUSIONS: In order to encourage dental hygiene students to prepare for employment, it is necessary to create a better academic environment and develop a variety of employment preparation education programs. I think that the active interest of the country, society, school, and family will have a positive impact on employment preparation.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to understand the comprehensive relationship among sense of coherence, clinical practice stress, and major satisfaction of students in the department of dental hygiene. From four local universities, departments of dental hygiene were selected: two departments represented a three-year curriculum system and two represented a four-year curriculum system. Data from the final questionnaires of 319 students were analyzed. Differences between variables were analyzed using t-tests and ANOVAs, and correlations were checked using Pearson's correlation coefficients. Path analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship among clinical practice stress, sense of coherence, and major satisfaction. The results indicated that clinical practice stress had a negative influential relationship with both sense of coherence, and major satisfaction. In addition, sense of coherence had a positive influential relationship with major satisfaction. The direct and indirect effects among factors displayed significant differences, indicating that clinical practice stress has a partial mediation effect on sense of coherence and major satisfaction. Therefore, major satisfaction can be increased by developing and implementing programs to improve sense of coherence.

The major satisfaction of college students will influence their learning interest and motivation, and then influence their learning achievement and future employment. Under the guidance of the concept of the micro system engineering of the education reform, the degree of the major satis-faction of the students in TCM colleges is analyzed by SIMPP method. The results show that students' behavior mode such as their preview situation, teaching adaptation, course satisfaction, students' achievement and their attitude of poor academic performance is closely related to the degree of major satisfaction. Teachers can judge the degree of major satisfaction by following these pattern behaviors;improve the rationality and accuracy of the degree of major satisfaction.
