Objective To observe the effect of Maren capsule with walking exercise for the patients with senile habitual constipation in community. Methods A total of 112 patients were randomly divided into three groups (control group A and the intervention group B,C). All the three groups took Maren capsule, and group A did not do the walking exercise, group B and C, walked for 30 min and 60 min after dinner, respectively. Two weeks were one course of treatment, all the groups took two courses. Results After treatment, the constipation symptoms and signs scores (4.1 ± 2.0, 4.8 ± 2.1 vs. 5.3 ± 1.5, F=3.886) in the group B and C were significantly lower than those in the control group A (P<0.05) ); and the scores in the group C was lower than that in the group B (P=0.041). Two weeks after the treatment, total effective rates were 36.8%(14/38), 63.2% (24/38), and 77.8% (28/36) in group A, B, C; and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=12.741, P=0.005). Four weeks later, total effective rates were 47.4%(18/38), 76.3%(29/38), 86.1%(31/36) in group A, B, C; and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=13.103, P=0.005). In the following 2 weeks after the end of treatment, total effective rates were 23.7% (9/38), 60.6% (23/38), 75.0% (27/36) in group A, B, C; and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=12.904, P=0.015). Conclusions The Maren capsule with 60 min walking exersice showed significant effect for the senile habitual constipation.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of Maren Soft Capsule on treating constipation in stroke patients. Methods: Patients (104) suffered from constipation were randomly divided into the treatment group (n = 52) and the control group (n = 52). Patients in the treatment group were given Maren Soft Capsule and Maren Boluses were used to the patients in the control group. Results: In two weeks after treatment, the defecation frequency and stool consistency were observed and compared between the two groups. Compared with the control group, defecation frequency and stool consistency scores were higher in the observation group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The total efficacies in the control group and observation group were 69.23% and 96.15%, respectively, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.001). No serious adverse reactions were found in the two groups. Conclusion: Maren Soft Capsule could solve the constipation in stroke patients.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of Maren Soft Capsule (MSC) in the treatment of constipation induced by antipsychotic drugs. Methods: Totally 192 hospitalized psychiatric patients with constipation caused by antipsychotic drugs were randomly divided into three groups, there wer 64 cases in each group. The first group was treated with MSC, the second group was given Sennae Folium, and the third group was given Phenolphthalein Tablets. The exhaust, defecation time, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension were observed after the treatment. Results: The total effect rates of the three drugs were over 80%. There was no significant difference in the effect of three drugs (P > 0.05), but Sennae Folium and Phenolphthalein Tablets had different degrees of side effects such as diarrhea and abdominal pain. Occurrence of adverse reaction rate of MSC was significantly lower than that of Sennae Folium and Phenolphthalein Tablets (P < 0.01). Conclusion: The effect of MSC in the treatment of antipsychotic drugs-induced constipation is significant, and the incidence of adverse reactions is low.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of Maren Soft Capsule in the prevention and treatment of constipation after anorectal operation. Methods: Choosing 270 patients after anorectal operation which were randomly divided into treatment group with 135 cases and control group with 135 cases, oral administration of Maren Soft Capsule began at day 2 after the operation in the treatment group, twice daily, two capsules each time; while the control group was not given Maren Soft Capsule. Observation for 14 d after operation, the defecation time, defecation frequency, degrees of defecation difficulties and pain, bleeding, and infection were recoreded and statistically analized. Results: Maren Soft Capsule could improve the defecation time, defecation frequency, degrees of defecation difficulties and pain, bleeding, and infection after the operation. Conclusion: Taking Maren Soft Capsule has the good effect on preventing the occurrence of constipation after anorectal operation.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effects of stripping resection plus hemorrhoidal artery ligation columnar suture in treatment of mixed hemorrhoids and Maren Soft Capsule in prevention and treatment of constipation after operation. Methods: Sixty patients were selected as control group A, treated with external dissection and internal ligation, and guided in diet and psychology after operation; sixty patients were selected as control group B, treated with peel resection hemorrhoid artery ligation suture, and guided in diet and psychology after operation; sixty patients were selected as observation group, and the operation method was the same as that of the control group B, but taking Maren Soft Capsule after operation, 2 capsules each time, twice daily. The effects and defecation after operation of patients in the three groups were compared. Results: The recovery rates and postoperative complications of patients in the three groups were compared, and there was no obvious difference between the observation group and the control group B, but there was significant difference in the observation group compared to the control group A (P < 0.05); The defecation after operation in the observation group was better than those in the control groups A and B (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Using stripping resection plus hemorrhoidal artery ligation columnar suture in the treatment of mixed hemorrhoids could achieve good results, with fewer complications after surgery, and it is a good way to treat the mixed hemorrhoids. Maren Soft Capsule could effectively prevent constipation after operation and reduce pain and other symptoms caused by defecation.

Objective: To explore the effect of low-dose Maren Soft Capsule (MSC) on constipation and colonic mucosa. Methods: Patients (208 cases) with colon slow transit constipation and mixed constipation were divided into treatment and control groups. MSC (two pills, once daily) and Sennae Folium (5 g) were given to the patients in the treatment and control groups, respectively, for 10 months. The recovery rate, total significant efficiency, and total efficiency were determined by defecation frequency and gastrointestinal transmission experiment. The side effects such as bloating and abdominal pain were observed. Results: The recovery rate in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group, and the total significant efficiency and total efficiency were similar to those in the control group. There was no colon melanosis in the treatment group after 10 month, while 26.9% of the patients in the control group were observed with colon melanosis. Conclusion: The low-dose MSC has the therapeutic effect on constipation with high safety.
