Envolvimento paterno é entendido como a participação do pai no desenvolvimento e bem-estar do filho, sendo fator de proteção ao desenvolvimento saudável. Este estudo analisou o envolvimento de 90 pais, de 18 a 72 anos, com filhos de 4 a 6 anos de idade, em cinco pré-escolas de duas cidades de SP. Os pais responderam uma Ficha de Caracterização Sociodemográfica e o Questionário de Envolvimento Paterno (QEP), que avaliou cinco dimensões: Cuidados Diretos e Indiretos, Suporte Emocional, Evocações, Jogos Físicos e Abertura ao Mundo, e Disciplina. Os resultados demonstraram baixo envolvimento paterno com os filhos, com valores menores em Cuidados Diretos e Indiretos, envolvendo os cuidados essenciais à sobrevivência como alimentar, vestir, dar banho, e cuidar das atividades de casa em geral. Observou-se maiores médias em Suporte Emocional e Evocações. Esta primeira aplicação da versão brasileira do QEP contribui para a área de avaliação do envolvimento paterno no país.
Paternal involvement is conceptualized as the father´s participation in the development and well-being of the child, and it is a protective factor for healthy development. This study analyzed the involvement of 90 fathers (18-72 years old) of children aged 4-6 years old from five preschools in São Paulo, Brazil. The fathers answered a Characterization Form and the Brazilian version of the Questionnaire d'Engagement Paternel (QEP), assessing five dimensions: Direct and Indirect Care, Emotional Support, Evocations, Physical Games and Openness to the World, and Discipline. The results showed low paternal involvement with children, with the lowest average scores in Direct and Indirect Care, which refers to providing essential care for survival, such as feeding, dressing, bathing, and house activities. Higher averages were observed in the dimensions Emotional Support and Evocations. This first application of the Brazilian version of QEP contributes to knowledge about paternal involvement in Brazil.

O presente artigo tem como objetivo investigar as características do engajamento paterno no cuidado a crianças de 4 a 6 anos de idade. Cinquenta pais (homens) com filhos(as) na idade de 4 a 6 anos responderam ao Questionário de Engajamento Paterno, o qual é formado por 56 itens distribuídos em sete dimensões. Por meio de análises estatísticas constatou-se que o paiestá engajado no cuidado com os filhos, embora tenham sido percebidas variações no nível de engajamento, de acordo com dimensões específicas. Destacaram-se as atividades referentes ao suporte emocional e à disciplina em comparação com aquelas referentes aos cuidados básicos e a tarefas de casa, o que demonstra que esse envolvimento ainda não é igual para todas asdimensões do cuidado. Constatou-se que os pais estão engajados com seus filhos e que o engajamento é maior em algumas esferas em comparação com outras, indicando que a paternidadepassa por um período de transição, no qual se mesclam as atividades tradicionais e as de um pai moderno e mais participativo.
This article aims to investigate the characteristics of parental involvement in caring for children of 4 to 6 years old. Fifty fathers with children at age 4-6 years old responded to the Questionnaireof Paternal Engagement which comprises 56 items divided into seven dimensions. Through statistical analysis it was found that the father is engaged in caring for children, although variations in the perceived level of engagement, according to specific dimensions. Gained more attention the activities related to emotional support and discipline than those related to basic care endhousehold chores, which shows that this involvement is still not equal for all dimensions of care. It was found that parents are engaged with their children and that engagement is higher in somespheres in comparison with other, indicating that fatherhood is going through a transition period which combines the traditional activities and the father of a modern and more participatory.
