RESUMEN

The objective in this study was to evaluate the clinic effect of applying allogenic platelet-rich plasma (PRP) heated or not, for treating cornea ulcers, including the dosage of PDGF-BB in the cornea. The ulcers were induced, standardizing the left eye from 81 rats (Ratus norvegicus, albinus variety), assigned randomly into three groups (N=27): control group (CG) which did not receive any topic treatment; heated PRP group (GA) and PRP group (GP), which received topical treatment every eight hours for five days. Each group underwent evaluation at 24 hours (M1), three days (M3) and five days (M5). The clinical exam evaluated the opacity, vascularization and corneal repair. The corneal PDGF-BB was dosed through the ELISA method. The corneal opacity was decreased in PRP-treated animals (GA and GP) and corneal repair time reduced when compared to CG at M1 and M5. Furthermore, GP showed greater vascularization at M3 compared to M1. Applied allogenic PRP eye drops, heated or not, speed up corneal healing, and reduce corneal repair time. However, the corneal PDGF concentration was not altered in any of the treatments.(AU)

O exame clínico avaliou a opacidade, a vascularização e o reparo corneano.

Background Plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) is a natural concentrate of autologous blood polypeptides already used in several fields of medicine because of its potential to enhance tissue regeneration. The aim of this study is to explore this novel approach to treat rotator cuff injuries of the shoulder. Materials and methods A case series of patients with chronic pain of the shoulder and failed conservative pharmacological management were treated with ultrasound-guided intra-articular injections of the shoulder with PRGF. The procedure consisted of two ultrasound-guided injections of PRGF in a 6 week interval, in each component of the rotator cuff depending on the findings of the previous ultrasound or the MRI study of the shoulder. Patients were clinically prospectively evaluated, before and one month after, the second injection of PRGF, and then at a 6 months follow-up. Results A significant improvement in the clinical evaluation scores (VAS score for pain intensity and Macnab criteria for functional recovery) was obtained from the initial evaluation to the end of the 6 months follow-up. Discussion The results indicate that the treatment with PRGF injections is safe and has the potential to reduce pain and improve shoulder function, and the quality of life in patients with rotator cuff injury. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the effects of plasma-rich growth factors (PRGF) on accelerating bone regeneration/repair in fresh extraction sockets, and determined the quality and quantity of bone by assessing the bone density using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients, who had undergone bilateral extractions, were included in this study. In one extraction socket, PRGF was used and covered with an autologous fibrin plug. Nothing was used in the opposite side extraction socket. Thirteen weeks post extraction, the level of bone regeneration was evaluated on both sides with CBCT. RESULTS: At the end of the study, the mean bone density according to the Hounsfield units (HU) in the control group and PRGF group was 500.05 HU (type III bone type) and 647.95 HU (type II bone type), respectively. CONCLUSION: This study recommends the use of PRGF in post extraction sites to accelerate the rate of bone regeneration and improve the quality of regenerated bone. The technique to process PRGF was simple compared to previously mentioned techniques used for platelet-rich plasma (PRP) preparation. PRP preparation requires a two-cycle centrifugation procedure, leading to a longer processing time.

RESUMEN

Objective: to determine the platelet recovery and yield of the PRGF-U1 protocol in a peruvian population. methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with a simple random probability sample of 32 patients who attended the laboratorio Scalab in Trujillo, Peru. a blood sample was taken from each patient in order to obtain the concentration of platelets and before and after the PRGF-U1 protocol, in order to determine platelet recovery and yield. to compare basal platelet concentrations and platelet recovery and yield with gender and age, the chi-square test, student's t-distribution and pearson's correlation coefficient were used considering a significance level of p<0.05. results: platelet yield was less than 2.2 in two patients and greater than or equal to 2.2 in 30 patients; platelet recovery was equal to 0.4 in 30 patients and greater than 0.4 in two patients. a statistically significant relationship (p<0.05) between basal platelet count and age was found when comparing basal platelet count, platelet recovery and platelet yield according to gender and age, but no significant relationship between the other variables (p>0.05). conclusion: the PRGF-U1 protocol presents optimal platelet yield and minimal expected platelet recovery.

Oroantral communication is the space created between the maxillary sinus and the oral cavity, if the communication is not treated on time, it would progress to oroantral fi stula or chronic sinus disease. An oroantral communication is the most common complication during surgical procedures closer to the maxillary sinus. With greater incidence we found sites of upper fi rst molar, followed by the second molar and fi nally third molars. The conventional handling of an oroantral communication goes between spontaneously closure or surgical closure management, it will depend in the size of the lesion and the time elapsed. The present article shows a clinical case, is a male patient of 42 years old with a previous extraction of tooth 16, by a private doctor, later developing a picture of sinusitis. Then he goes to the emergency department of the Hospital 1o of October, ISSSTE in the CDMX, being evaluated by our service, where there is a frank communication between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus, closing it with a plasma membrane rich in growth factors (AU)

Maxillary sinus floor elevation is a predictable surgical procedure meant to vertically increase the amount of bone in the posterior region of the upper jaw to enable placement of a prosthetic rehabilitation device supported by implants. The aim of the present article was to describe elevation of the maxillary sinus floor using plasma rich in growth factors, absorbable hydroxyapatite and bone allograft as sub-antral graft materials with simultaneous placement of two surface treated implants (Osseotite, 3i). The present article also reported clinical and radiographic results obtained at seven days, six months and seven years after the surgery. From the clinical and radiographic standpoint suitable healing was observed. The surgical procedure used in the present clinical case was considered a suitable option to place implants in atrophic maxillary areas.
