RESUMEN

Abstract: In recent years, the number of men suffering from an Eating Disorder (ED) has increased. However, very few studies on ED have been conducted in samples of men. This paper aims to shed some light on this issue by exploring the following questions in a sample of adult men: 1) to analyse the relationships between body and appearance-related self-conscious emotions and ED symptomatology and, 2) to study the differences between a group of men who are at risk of developing an ED and another group of men who are not at risk of developing an ED in body and appearance-related self-conscious emotions. A total of 207 Spanish or Latin American men aged 18-50 years participated. Men who were at risk of developing an ED had more body shame and body guilt than those who were not at risk. However, no statistically significant differences were found between the two groups in body pride. These findings show that, unlike in women, body pride does not seem to play as important a role in these disorders as body shame or body guilt.

The University of Tsukuba aims to be a university where all members, not only LGBT but also everyone with diverse personalities, can share their abilities. The Bureau of Human Empowerment plays a central role in student support in line with the Basic Principles and Guidelines on LGBT+ Inclusion at the University of Tsukuba (2020 revision). Students' gender information is accessible only to those who need it, such as teachers in charge. Faculty and staff are encouraged to handle information carefully. While basic knowledge of LGBT and others is necessary, it is also important to consider all students based on the premise that there are those with diverse personalities who are not LGBT, rather than treating LGBT and other students specially. We shared our opinions with faculty and the faculty development (FD) committee members at FD meetings.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES@#To understand medical students' mental health, professional pride, and intention to work in the front-line during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and provide a reference for psychological intervention.@*METHODS@#We used the depression-anxiety-stress scale and self-designed questionnaire on professional pride, intention to work in the front-line and the extent of family support. Medical students from 4 medical schools in Fujian and Hunan were investigated. Their mental health status, professional pride and first-line work willingness with different characteristics were compared, and the influential factors for professional pride and first-line work willingness were analyzed.@*RESULTS@#A total of 266 valid questionnaires were collected. During the pandemic, there were significant differences in the proportion of depressed students among different college and universities, majors and stages (<0.05), and the professional pride was significantly different (<0.001). Medical students with different mental health status showed significant differences in professional pride (<0.01). Marriage, pressure and extent of family support were the influential factors for their professional pride (<0.05). The latter two were also influential factors for their intention to work in the front-line (<0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#During the pandemic, students from college and nursing have relatively better mental health and higher professional pride. The professional pride is low in medical students who married, with abnormal stress or low family support. The intention to work in front-line is decreased in students with abnormal stress or low family support.

RESUMEN

Insurgente!

Insurgent! Gaucho Parade of Mad Pride: what is it, what is it? There is a special day to be celebrated; circulates around the city; involves users, workers, managers of health and social assistance, educational institutions, collectives and the population in general; it uses the body, the street, the art and the culture; problematizes madness and mental health; offer dialog spaces, conversation wheels and workshops; presents a multitude of colors, shapes, costumes and hats. Throughout the next few lines, this research will seek to bring reality and theory together, trying to establish more organic relations with the way of producing scientific knowledge about the field of collective mental health, taking as a possible bridge to this, the insurgency. The choice of the theme (insanity), the problem of research (insurgencies in Parade), the methodology (cartography), gives clues that the movement, in the composition with the street, offers a (re)discover with body, art and culture, as devices of production of resistance to a prescribed life.

RESUMEN

The article discusses the question why and how social psychologists should research the impact of having been the host of the World Cup for the Brazilian society. It will be argued that social psychologist should focus on changing national narratives, social representations and social imaginaries of being Brazilian. This approach should be related to research on collectiveaction and collective emotions. Based on some qualitative projects conducted by the author in Germany and Brazil, the ambivalent character of modern national identity will be discussed. Thisambivalence is grounded on different national narratives that are essential for the selfunderstanding of members from a nation. Hosting the World Cup has impacted on these fundamental narratives, already in anticipation of the event. Whereas expectations regarding the upcoming event were broadly skeptical and linked to fears, the experience of the event by itself included some positively attributed surprises. For some, the fearful view of “imagina na copa” turned into a proud “copa das copas” – though critics in regard to large spendings maintained. Itcan be assumed that having been the host of the World Cup, in the future will be embedded in national narratives and therefore will have impacts for Brazilian national identity.

RESUMEN

Brazil’s recent experiences in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup show thepotential for collective shame that is potentially, but rarely, realized as representative teams, fans and nations dream of international sporting successand positive international attention from mega-sporting events. Feelings of shock, deep disappointment and anger in Brazil are examinedas manifestations of group-based and collective shame after the semi-final defeatfor the host nation’s supporters and humiliationof the national team. I explored “bottom up” mechanismsand other means by which collective shamearguably occurred due to high expectations and national narratives built around footballing success. The analysis includes the complex social andrelational means by which Brazil’s representative team failed to “restore pride” by returning to previous minimal standards in the third-place playoff and the fortunatemanner further humiliation for Brazilians was avoided through the German team’s subsequent victory over Argentina in the final. The brief collective emotion analysis is completed with an examination oflessons that might be learned from Germany’s long process of transformation from collectiveshame after the Second World War to the eventual experience of a cosmopolitan national pride through football at the World Cup 2006 tournament and other subsequent international successes.

In this paper we explore the relations between social space and political action, as present in the case of the LGTB movement in the province capital of Córdoba, Argentina. We focus on the construction of spatial routines as a determinant of social stratification among LGTB activists. By looking at the activist track of different groups, characterized as 'historical vs. recent', we analyze different uses and representations of space, and their effects on the inclusion-exclusion dynamics at play in a concrete instance political action: the first local "Pride and Sexual Diversity March", in November, 2009. Field observation records and interviews with activists show how the emergence of new activist groups in the late 1990's produced a displacement of spatial routines from the periphery to the downtown area. This process generated a dynamics of inclusion/exclusion which reproduces a social stratification of activism, compromising the goal of broadening the social spectrum of participants.
