RESUMEN

Karanja Kshara is an alkali, extracted from water soluble ash of the plant – Karanja {Pongamia pinnata (L.)}. The Kshara preparation techniques differ according to various authors, with respect to the ratio of water added to ash, soaking time, folds of cloth and number of filtrations. In the current study, Karanja Kshara was prepared as per different classical methods and analysed for the differences. Three samples of Karanja Kshara were prepared, according to the textual references from Sushrutha Samhita (Sample A), Sharngadhara Samhita (Sample B) and Rasa Tarangini (Sample C). Analysis of the methods of preparation along with organoleptic and Physico-chemical tests were conducted. There was a 14% yield of Kshara in Sample A, 7.45% of yield in Sample B and 7.54% in Sample C. In physicochemical analysis, there was 6.8%, 6.1% and 5.4% of loss on drying in Samples A, B and C, respectively. Total ash value was 84.7%, 85.78% and 87.89% in Samples A, B and C respectively. Acid insoluble ash value was 11.34%, 11.04% and 9.15%. pH value was 10.36, 10.30 and 10.37. Traces of Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Sulphur, oxides of silica, Carbonate & Bicarbonate were found in all the 3 samples. There are very few notable differences found in the results, however, they are quite similar. In terms of yield, economy and alkalinity, sample A (Sushrutha Samhita) can be considered as the better method while sample method C (Rasatarangini) is easier and faster.

RESUMEN

The literature available from past to modern times clearly signifies that the property of Pushpadhanwa rasa was used for Vrisya (aphrodisiac), Vajikarana (Increased sexual power), Vandhyatwa (sterility in both male and female). It was a preparation that can be used for male infertility due to oligospermia and female infertility due to Ovarin cyst. It firstly came into existence around 9th century depicted by Acharya Bahata followed by literatures like Rasa Ratna Sammuchaya, Yoga Tarangini, Bruhat Yoga Tarangini, Yogaratnakar, Rasa Tarangini, Bhaishjya Ratnavali etc was practicing these formulations to their patients. In this paper the developmental sequence of Pushpadhanwa rasa was deeply studied. An honest attempt has made to establish the periodical revolution of Pushpadhanwa rasa in the field of Vajikarana Chikistha. In this paper a good collection of Pushpdhanwa Rasa which could be utilized to prepare as per the need and use it clinically.

RESUMEN

Tankanâ which is among the â˜Kshar traya’ mentioned in “Kshar trik vidnyaniya trayodasha taranaga†of Acharya Sadananda Sharma virachit ‘Rasa tarangini’. Tankan i.e., Borax (Na2B4O7 10H2O) is composed of boric acid & soda. It is a salt of tetra Boric acid, an important compound of Boron, which is also known as sodium biborate. Other Rasa Vaidyas also have included “Tankan†under the groups of Ksharatraya, Ksharapanchaka, Dravaka gana, Mitra panchaka etc. The present study was conducted to develop “Tankanamruta malahar†(pharmaceutically & to study its antimicrobial activity (In vitro). “Tankanamruta malahar†is a good combination of herbo-mineral preparation, which is indicated in Dushta vrana shodhan chikitsa or infected wounds. Though this formulation is from Ayurvedic classical text but there is a need to develop the standard procedure of preparation as they have faster & accurate results than oral administration of drug, so by the fusion of modern instruments & traditional methods of manufacturing procedures we have tried to make “Tankanamruta malahar†which contains Shuddha Tankan bhasma, Siktha taila, Sarji kshar, Shuddha pushpa kasis & Pipal twak kshar. Standardization describes all measures taken during manufacturing process like Shodhan, Maran, Kshar nirman & Siktha taila preparation etc & quality control leads to reproducible quality of particular product & in vitro study was performed to evaluate its anti-microbial activity against selected pathogens.
