RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the body shape discordance, the difference between true body type based on body mass index (BMI) and self-recognized body image, on nutrient intake, weight control attempt, and mental health in Korean adults. METHODS: Subjects were persons aged 19~64 years (4,382 men and 6,226 women) who participated in the 2010~2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Subjects were categorized as RL (Group recognized as lighter than BMI criteria), RA (Group with agreement between BMI criteria and self-recognized body image), and RH (Group recognized as heavier than BMI criteria) according to the difference between actual body type based on BMI and self-recognized body image. RESULTS: Means of BMI in RH groups were lower than or equal to that of RA groups in all groups. No significant differences in total energy intake were observed among the three groups in men, but total energy intake was higher in the RL group than in the RH group in 30~49 year old women. Proportion of carbohydrate was the highest in the RL group among 30~49 year old women. RH groups paid more attention to weight control and had less weight gain than other groups. Higher proportions of depressive symptoms were reported in the RH group in 19~29 year old men, while a higher proportion of depressive symptoms were reported in the RL group in 50~64 year old men. CONCLUSION: The current findings suggest an association of perceiving body shape with energy intake, weight control attempt, or depressed mood in some age groups. Body image perception can influence eating, weight control attempt, and depressed mood, therefore proper body image perception should be established in Korean adults.

RESUMEN

Probiotics are friendly live microorganisms (in most cases, bacteria) that are similar to benefi cial micro-organisms found in the human gut, whenever consumed, have potential to confer benefi t to the health of consumers by maintaining, or improving their intestinal microbial fl ora and are available to consumers mainly in the form of dietary supplements and foods. All-time high interest in the fi eld of probiotics is due to emerging probiotic industry. Probiotics are available in foods and dietary supplements, even as pharmaceutical formulations (capsules, tablets and powders) and in some other forms as well, but their claims of health benefi ts may challenge the traditional border between food and medicine. A number of probiotic products have been already introduced into the international market as food supplements, dietary supplements, natural health products, functional foods and many more other categories; as a result, the position of regulatory system for probiotics within existing categories become vague and quite unclear. Common terminology for probiotic products has become a necessity to achieve adequate regulatory control for discussion of probiotic-related issues among government, producers and consumers. The lack of a consistent terminology across the globe leads to legal uncertainty and confusion instead of being a direct obstacle for development of a mature market. This article will explain differences in regulatory categorizations across the globe; discuss the terms like food and drugs with a close relationship to probiotics, the problems associated with unsatisfactorily approached categorization as well as suggestive consolidations for the new categorization which will demarcate probiotics into categories explaining their nutritive claims, health claims or both.

RESUMEN

Nowadays newer antidepressants are commonly used in clinical practice, since they are as effective as tricyclic antidepressant, but show less adverse effects. However there are many unexpected adverse effects of these drugs. It is one of the most common causes of treatment failure. I reviewed these adverse effects and pharmacological management focusing on common but under-recognized adverse effects of newer antidepressant. I reviewed newer antidepressant-induced sleep related movement disorder, sweating, tremor, abnormal bleeding. In this paper, newer antidepressants include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, sertraline, paroxetine), serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (venlafaxine, duloxetine), norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (bupropion), noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant (mirtazapine), and reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (moclobemide). I suggest that psychiatrists should know not only well-recognized but also under-recognized common adverse effects and their pharmacological management of newer antidepressants, so that it will be helpful to treat patients with psychiatric illness using newer antidepressants and to make better outcome.

RESUMEN

The Journal of Korean Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (JKSCPT) as a peer-reviewed semi-annual journal has published lots of clinical pharmacology articles of various fields since its first issue in May 1993. Particularly, a number of high-quality articles such as randomized controlled prospective clinical trials have been presented in this journal. The JKSCPT currently has been also indexed in Scopus, one of the famous international bibliographic databases, and the candidate journal accredited by the National Research Foundation of Korea. Although the JKSCPT has accumulated outstanding achievements as the specialized journal for clinical pharmacology in Korea, it is also true that there are many problems to be solved in order to be a more internationally recognized journal. The methods to analyze the status of a journal for the academic society were first suggested in this article. The SWOT analysis on the current status of the JKSCPT was done for establishing future development strategies. Making references to these analyzing methods of a journal and SWOT analysis, numerous problems and the suggestions for the development of the JKSCPT were presented in detail. The future model of the journal for the academic society was also briefly discussed.

A gênese do recalque estaria vinculada à fixação do significante no surgimento do enfans.

This article shows the trajectory of Lacan, based in Freud, that leads to the deaf experience of the word. Beginning with the funding text of Lacan: The discuss of Rome, the author of the article demonstrates that, the same way that Freud creates the father in his text Totem and Taboo, there also is, in the lacanian teaching, one demonstration of the dead Father from the significant. Therefore, the author shows the mechanic of the significant which is the presence and the absence. It means that the significant becomes the subject of belief in their passions. The conclusion of the author is that the citizen of belief is the one that trusts in passion.

RESUMEN

Academic achievement was compared between students who transferred after having graduated from nursing college from 1994 through 1998 and formal students at Chiba nursing school. The transfer students had higher academic achievement in liberal arts, foreign languages, and major subjects. The academic achievement of older (27 years or older) transfer students was equal to that of younger (26 years or younger) transfer students. Approximately 10% of students required to repeat a year were transfer students. However, their academic achievement was no worse than that of students who finished their courses without interruption.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to investigate health-related and eating-related behaviors as part of self-recognized health status. The survey was conducted among 304 elderly people in Chunchon city in 1999. Fifty two percent(52%) of the respondents recognized they were healthy, 32% felt so-so and 16% thought themselves unhealthy. When they felt healthy, they engaged in more social work and regular exercise, had better appetites, lower conflict scores with their children, lower depression, higher satisfaction in life, better physical condition(eye, ear, tooth, mentality and walking), and higher ability of ADL(activities of daily living) and IAD(instrumental activities of daily living). Also, the self-recognized group consumed each food groups (meats, green, yellow and white vegetables, fruits, milks, seaweeds, beans) more often and showed a higher preference of food. The results of this study indicate that self-recognized health status affects every pattern of life among the elderly. As a result, comprehensive education(such as nutrition, health, physical and psychological education) should be offered to the elderly.
