The aim of this review article is to explore the scientific literary evidences for the therapeutic usage of “Nilavaagai chooranam” for respiratory illness (Swasakasam, Iya noi) as mentioned in Siddha literature Siddha vaidaya Thirattu and to focus on the Pharmacological activity for the healing nature of the drug. Most of the raw drugs used for the preparation of Nilavaagai chooranam have Broncho dilatory activity, Anti-microbial activity, Anti-inflammatory activity, Immunomodulatory activity, Anti-histamine activity hence justifying its usage in respiratory ailments.

RESUMEN

Background: Molecular docking has tremendous applications in the field of Siddha medicine especially herbal formulations were the interactions of the lead molecules of the formulation with that of receptors can be elucidated at the molecular level and furthermore to reach an assumption of its fundamental biochemical processes to which the formulation is targeting. Kuppaimeni Choornam (KC) is a simple herbal formulation used in Siddha medicine for urticaria and other skin allergies. As far as skin allergy is concerned Amino acids such as Asparagine (ASN), Tryptophan (Trp), Aspartate (Asp), Tyrosine (Tyr), Serine (Ser), Isoleucine (Ile), Lysine (Lys), Threonine (Thr), Phenylalanine (Phe) are the main core residues involved in mediating Human histamine receptor (3RZE). Binding of lead compounds with this core residue may inhibit the enzyme activity. Aim & Objectives: Molecular docking studies of Siddha herbal formulation KC and to screen the lead component interaction on the Human Histamine Receptor (3RZE). Methodology: Docking calculations were carried out using Auto Dock 4. Gasteiger partial charges were added to the ligand atoms. Docking simulations were performed using the Lamarckian genetic algorithm (LGA) and the Solis & Wets local search method. Initial position, orientation, and torsions of the ligand molecules were set randomly. All rotatable torsions were released during docking. Results and Conclusion: The compounds present in KC like beta-sitosterol, apigenin, luteolin, cuminaldehyde, kaempferol, and triacetonamine showed maximum interactions with 3RZE when compared to that of the standard cetirizine. Hence, these compounds of test drug possess promising Human histamine 1 receptor (3RZE) inhibition activity. For prospective pharmacological validation of Kuppaimeni Choornam, the docking studies were an important step for its scientific justification.

RESUMEN

Background: Siddha medicine is one of the commonest alternative medicine among AYUSH (ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha, homeopathy) medicine practiced in Tamilnadu, one of the southern states of India, where it originated originally. To assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of siddha medicine practitioners towards Tuberculosis, a leading infectious disease-causing increased mortality and morbidity in the country where world’s one fifth of the diseased patients of tuberculosis live and how these alternative medicine practitioners are helping the national programme of eradicating TB in 2025 with their practice. Methods: A Questionnaire was prepared regarding the symptoms, investigations, treatment of TB and about its knowledge of recent trend. One siddha medicine practitioner was randomly selected from the 32 districts of the state from the registry, interviewed and assessed. Results: Out of the 32 siddha practitioners interviewed, 96% referred the tuberculosis patients to the nearby government hospitals for the antituberculous treatment but with the supportive siddha medicine. Regarding the awareness or update of the recent change in the TB regime and the national programme, only 10% of the siddha medicine practitioners were sensitised that too only those working in government hospitals. Conclusions: Siddha medicine practitioners mostly referred the tuberculosis patients, but they are insisting on the supportive role of siddha medicine along with the standard anti tuberculous drugs for the general improvement of the patient. Also, the sensitisation programmes for these Siddha practitioners should be initiated for the better outcome of the RNTCP (Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme), especially in the private setup.

RESUMEN

Mantha Sanni (Autism) is a Mukkuttra disease that is imbalance of all the three main fundamental principles of Vatham, Pitham and Kabam. Mantha Sanni is a neuro developmental disorder typically appearing in the first one and half years of life and characterised by impaired social and communication skills.. In the all over the world, the surveillance study identified 1 in 68 children suffering with ASD. In India, the prevalence ratio is 1:46. It is about 4.5 times more common among boys (1:48) than among girls (1:189). The higher prevalence rate was observed in the rural area. Socioeconomic status may be one of the fundamental indicators for ASD in India. Autism spectrum disorder is the world most common disorder in Children. In this study, I have to present 3 case reports of ASD children based on the assessment scale. The main course of treatment are Brami Nei as internal and Varmam as External therapy in the recommended dose as per Siddha pharmacopeia for 3 months. After 3 months, ASD children improve the cognitive skills and eye to eye contact Hyperactivity reduced well. Most of the formulation acting on psyche is ghee based. It is well established that the drugs to have its action on brain should have the capacity to cross the blood brain barrier and for the purpose ghee based Brahmi Nei is recommended for ASD in children. Manipulative therapy like Varma is to enhance the mind calming activity with sound sleep, good eye to eye contact and to reduce anxiety, hyperactivity. All the ingredients in both Internal medicines are herbal. So my attorney has to conclude the Siddha management therapy might be good and safest. It will be definitely efficacy in treating ASD children. Hence, Brami Nei as internal Varmam as External therapy may have a role to curing the ASD children.

Literally oligospermia means insufficient number of spermatozoa in semen, but significantly, it means that oligospermia is a medical condition characterized by the total sperm count less than 20 million/ml of ejaculate. Extensive clinical researches are going on worldwide to treat oligospermia by utilizing various natural sources like plants, mineral and animal origin. Siddha medicine is having many formulations to treat oligospermia, one among them is Dhathu bushti chooranam described in Noigalukku Siddha Parigaram –a Sasthiric siddha literature. 10 male partners of infertility couples attending Sool mahalir maruthuvam OPD of the Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, National Institute of Siddha, Tambaram sanatorium, Chennai-47 were recruited for this pilot study. All patients were treated with 10 gm of Dhathu bushti chooranam twice a day with milk for 90 days. All patients were subjected to complete semenogram on 0th and 90th day of treatment. RESUMEN

Azhinjiathikashayam is a herbo mineral Siddha poly herbal formulation said for the management of Madhumegam (Type-2 Diabetes mellitus) in ancient Siddha literature. The study drug was subjected to estimate the therapeutic efficacy in Madhumegam patients. A well designed study protocol was approve by Institutional Ethics Committee and the clinical study was conducted as an open clinical trial in OPD/IPD of Ayothidoss pandithar Hospital of National Institute of Siddha Chennai. Based on the inclusion criteria 40 Madhumegam patients (Type -2 Diabetes mellitus) were enrolled in this study. Informed consent was obtained from each patient before study initiation. 60ml of Azhinjiathikashayam was administered orally before food twice a day for a period of 90 days and advised to follow the prescribed dietary regimen. All the baseline data, Laboratory investigations were recorded in the prescribed Case Report Form of each patient. Blood sugar level in fasting and postprandial was done once in 30 days and HbA1c was done before treatment (0th day) and after treatment (90th day). The clinical assessment was recorded once in 10 days. Paired ‘t’ test was used to test the significance of treatment using before and after treatment data on HbA1c, Clinical symptoms, Blood sugar fasting and postprandial. The level of significance probability 0.05 was used to test the treatment difference and the values are statistically significant. In this study there is statistically significant difference between before and after treatment on average HbA1c, average blood sugar of fasting and average clinical feature score (p < 0.0001).
