Abstract Background Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of adult mortality. Geographically remote and low-income Brazilian regions lack specialized consultations. The telemedicine management of this population by cardiologists is not fully known. Objectives To analyze cardiology teleconsultation in the Brazilian region with the highest number of isolated cities. Methods From February 2020 to October 2021, patients from the North Region of Brazil evaluated by local general practitioners were referred for cardiological evaluation by telemedicine. Referral reasons, demographics, clinical history, physical examinations, tests, medications, and prescriptions pre- and post-telemedicine were analyzed (p<0.05 was considered statistically significant). Results We analyzed 653 patients. The attendance rate was 85.7% (53.1% female, mean age: 54.2±6.5 years). The main reasons for referral were cardiovascular symptoms (58.1%) and risk factors among asymptomatic patients (13.3%). Only 12.6% had a diagnosed disease. Most patients had regular physical examinations and electrocardiograms. Few had recent complementary tests. The prescription of angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), calcium channel blockers and statins was significantly increased, while that of digoxin, noncardiac beta-blockers and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) was decreased at the first teleconsultation. Most of the tests requested were of low complexity and cost: electrocardiogram (28.2%), chest X-ray (14%), echocardiogram (64.5%) and blood tests (71.8%). For 2.1% of patients, interventions were indicated, and 8% were discharged after the first consultation. Conclusion On-demand cardiology teleconsultation contributes to heart disease treatment optimization. Most patients were referred with syndromic diagnoses without previous complementary tests. The specialist workup requested was usually available locally and at a low cost but precluded early discharge. Local training could optimize the referral.

RESUMEN

Background: The society and the State must provide dental care and help prevent oral health problems by implementing public policies with cultural relevance that allow society to address and improve the inequity in health care that systematically affects people's well-being. The present study seeks to understand the representations of dental health in people who attend primary care services in vulnerable urban and rural areas of the central zone of Chile. Specifically, the representations of the causes, morbidities, and symptoms attributed to the healthy and diseased mouth. Material and Methods: A qualitative study based on the Grounded Theory was conducted, analyzing the social representations of oral health in a sample of 161 adult people receiving treatment at public primary care services and dental emergency units in rural and urban communes. Empirical saturation and triangulation by time, place, and subjects give reliability to the study. Results: The data obtained show that dental health is mainly valued for its implications for self-esteem and social integration. A naturalization of dental health problems is evidenced as an adaptive strategy to traditional access barriers, which is counterproductive with preventive strategies. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest the need to reinforce education in dental health implemented in a transversal manner, having aesthetic values and the population's expectations of sociability as the key to action.

Abstract The study discusses the relationship between peripheral territorialities/spatialities and the configurations of LGBTQIA+ gender and sexuality expressions in a suburban area of São Paulo, Brazil. The ethnographic method included several data production strategies in three stages, between 2019 and 2020. The processes of territorial/spatial appropriation from LGBTQIA+ groups are distributed in spatial/territorial archipelagos that are conducive (and apparently safe) to socialize and re-reproduce belongings. The dialogue between space and territory mediated by sexualities and genders based on their expressions of identity proved to be a fruitful way to articulate possibilities for the implementation of public policies with the purpose of mitigating the gaps that exist in relation to HIV prevention among LGBTQIA+ young people in a specific space/territory.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the effect of the Rural and Marginal Urban Health Service (SERUMS) on the physicians' perception of work in the primary health care (PHC) setting and its associated factors. Materials and methods: A secondary data analysis of a sample of physicians who performed the SERUMS in 2016 was carried out. To evaluate the variable of interest, the scale "Perception of work in the PHC setting" was used, higher scores indicated a negative perception of work in the PHC setting. A baseline survey (before the SERUMS) and a follow-up survey (8-12 months after starting the SERUMS) were applied and differences in both scores were evaluated. Results: Of the 780 respondents, 215 (27.6%) completed the baseline and follow-up survey. The average score increased considerably (from 3.4 to 6.7; p < 0.001), which shows a negative perception of work in the PHC setting after participating in the SERUMS. Of the three parts of the survey, the one regarding perceptions by the physicians working in the PHC and the one about perceptions of medical work in the PHC setting increased the perception scores. No sociodemographic variables were found to be associated with the change in scores. Conclusions: Physicians' perception about work in the PHC setting deteriorated after participating in the SERUMS. Therefore, strategies to encourage physicians' interest in working at this level of healthcare should be promoted.

RESUMEN

@#Introduction: In Malaysia, Heterotrigona itama sp. (stingless bee) industries start to grow rapidly since 2015 but the study on its health benefit is still lacking. This study was aimed to analyse and compare the sugar content, minerals and antioxidant properties of stingless bee honey collected from forest and suburban area in Malaysia. Methods: Sugar content was determined by HPLC, minerals and heavy metals was determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) by Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminium chloride colorimetry method, respectively. For determining the antioxidant activity of the samples, 2,2-diphenyl-1-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl) hydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2’-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay were used. Results: Fructose, glucose and sucrose are found in all samples in range of 16.03-33.13 g/100g, 8.63-20.72 g/100g and 2.68-34.04 g/100g, respectively. Potassium and sodium were major minerals in all stingless bee honey with an average of 622.36 and 496.01 mg/kg, respectively. RESUMEN

Clothes form indispensible trade in modern society & jeans clothes are among the clothes with highest demand among youth. Most of the times the jeans fabrics are made in some industries and then they are transported to different small scale industries to make readymade clothes. Mostly these small scale industries consist of small labour force mostly involved in cutting & making of readymade jeans clothes. Most of these industries are unorganised sectors. This study intends to assess morbidity patterns workers in one of such industries invoved in cutting & making of readymade jeans clothes. Objective: To assess the morbidity pattern among the workers. Material & Methods: It is a crossectional study conducted in one of the small factory producing readymade jeans clothes. The total number of workers included was 256. The objective of the study was to assess the morbidity among the workers. The study tool used was a pre validated &pretested questionnaire, which included their demographic characteristics, general & systemic examination. Results: Among all the 256 workers in the factories, highest number i.e. 136 (53.13%) were in 20-30 year age group followed by 68(26.56%) in 30-40 year age group, 24(9.38%) each in 10-20 years & 40-50 years age group and only 4(1.56%) were in 50-60 years of age group. All of them were males. Conclusion: The health needs of the people working in these industries are high due to significant co morbidities, long working hours, lack of health awareness regarding substance abuse and safe sexual practice.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Consecutive community health assessments revealed that water-pipe smoking in women and impaired growth in children were among the main health concerns in suburban communities in southern Iran. The aim of the present study was to identify the effects of water-pipe smoking during pregnancy on birth weight.METHODS: Data from a population-based prospective cohort study of 714 singleton live pregnancies in the suburbs of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran in 2016–2018 were used in this study. Data about water-pipe smoking patterns and birth weight were collected by questionnaires during and after the pregnancy. Low birth weight (LBW) was defined as a birth weight below 2,500 g. Statistical analyses were performed using generalized linear models, and the results were presented in terms of relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).RESULTS: Fifty (8.2%) of the study subjects smoked water-pipe. The adjusted risk of LBW increased 2-fold in water-pipe smokers (adjusted RR [aRR], 2.09; 95% CI, 1.18 to 3.71), and by 2.0% for each 1-year increase in the duration of water-pipe smoking (aRR, 1.02; 95% CI, 0.99 to 1.05).CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that water-pipe smoking during pregnancy was an important risk factor for LBW in this population sample from southern Iran. The introduction of regulations onto prevent water-pipe smoking and the implementation of community health action plans aiming at empowering women and increasing women's knowledge and awareness regarding the health consequences of water-pipe smoking are proposed.

RESUMEN

@#Introduction: Mental health in policing has been widely studied but incidence of mental health illnesses among them keep increasing. This study aimed to analyse generic and specific work stressors among police officers and their differences between urban and sub-urban police population. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Kuala Lumpur and in nine sub-urban provinces in Pahang and Negeri Sembilan which involved 328 traffic police officers recruited by universal sampling. Data was collected by using self-administered questionnaire consisted of Police Stress Questionnaire (PSQ), the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ), the Work Family Conflicts (WFC), the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD), and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Results: The response rate was 71.30%. Majority of respondents were male (86.59%) with average age of 38.84 years old. The prevalence of probable mental health illnesses was 29.80% in sub-urban and 44.30% in urban. Job demand, role ambiguity, family to work conflicts and almost all specific works stressors were significantly higher among urban respondents. For urban, results showed that the most significant stressor was perceived air pollution (p<0.01) followed by age (p=0.01), job control (p=0.01), and operational stressors (p=0.03). While in sub-urban, the most significant stressors determined were the presence of chronic diseases (p=0.03) and organizational stressors (p=0.01). Conclusion: The prevalence of probable mental health illnesses was high in both study areas and each area had its own unique work stressors. Intervention strategies prioritizing on these factors are therefore recommended.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the health status of members of the Manuel Bustos Settlement, in the region of Valparaiso, in terms of socioeconomic and environmental characteristics and their self-perceived health status. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A descriptive and non-experimental quantitative study was conducted. A questionnaire was applied through semistructured interviews to 89 families in the settlement. RESULTS: Families of the settlement are characterized principally by their young age, for attending regular health appointments (mainly the Well Child check ups and preventative annual physical exam for adults), and, in the case of the majority, for being enrolled in a local community health center. Their houses have irregular human waste disposal and 40% of households have a member with hypertension. On average, the residents valued their health status with a grade of 5, on a scale from 1 to 7. CONCLUSIONS: The health situation of the inhabitants of the settlement presents positive as-pects related to health center enrollment and regular attendance of controls. However, the high prevalence of hypertension, the precarious conditions of eliminating human waste, and the pre-sence of nearby landfills are risk factors for health that must be addressed by government and nongovernmental organizations, which work in this territory.

ABSTRACT This paper explores the online expressions of violence perpetrated or experienced by adolescents from marginalized areas of Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina. Using a qualitative methodology, four specific events were examined: threats, "bondis" [fights], cyberbullying and displays of mourning. To do so, 20 in-depth interviews and 3,000 virtual observations of profiles in the social network Facebook were carried out. Among the main results, it was seen that most expressions of violence are part of an offline-online dynamic. Empirical evidence is also offered based upon which it can be affirmed that the expressions of violence of these teenagers are developed around the culture of "aguante" [fierce loyalty]. The article ponders the extent to which, in the iconic platform of the option "like," these expressions are implicitly functional to the social network or, to the contrary, or whether they allow displacements and significant reappropriations on the part of users. New questions arise about the use of these tools by adolescents from marginalized areas and the need for more complex approaches to examine these phenomena.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of suburban community water fluoridation programs on preventing caries in permanent teeth. METHODS: In 2012, surveys were administered to children aged 8, 12, and 15 years residing in fluoridated Habcheon township area. Samples collected during the national survey in 2012 from children of the same age residing in non-fluoridated township areas were used as the control, and the caries prevalence data from this sample were used to estimate the caries preventive effect in the studied regions. This study included 457 subjects from the Habcheon township area and 1,792 in the control group. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistical package version 21.0. The caries preventive effect exerted by fluoride in the community water supply was determined by calculating the differences in the DMFT and DMFS indices between the study and control groups. The cofounders of the mean number of fissure-sealed teeth and surfaces were controlled to estimate the effectiveness of caries prevention. RESULTS: The odds ratio of subjects with no dental caries in the fluoridated region was 0.75 compared to that in the control group. The mean DMFT scores or DMFS scores adjusted for the number of fissuresealed teeth or tooth surfaces were lower than those in the control group. The caries prevention fraction was estimated to be 23.4% based on the difference in the adjusted mean DMFT scores between the control and study groups. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that fluoridation of the community water in the suburban area was highly effective in preventing dental caries in permanent teeth, and therefore, this community water fluoridation program should be implemented in other regions in Korea.
