The aim of this study is to determine which is the most frequent visual aid use in low vision. Twenty-eight articles were consulted in a period from 2007 until now. It was observed that for near vision the hans spectacles were the best aid and for far vision telescope were more used(AU)

RESUMEN

Objective@#To study the effect of the edentulous arch with implant supported telescopic overdenture. @*Methods@#Fifteen patients with edentulous jaws underwent telescopic overdenture restoration. A total of 26 prostheses were fabricated (11 in the upper jaws, 15 in the lower jaws) with 104 placed implants. The secondary crown was fabricated by wax-lost cast method. Clinical examination and radiographs were conducted. Changes in the marginal bone level around the implants were evaluated by radiograph. The satisfaction level of complete denture and implant-supported overdenture were compared. The mean follow-up time was 32 months (range 6-60 months).@*Results@#Twenty-six prostheses showed better stability, maintenance and occlusion. There were statistical differences between complete denture and implant-supported overdenture in comfort level and chewing function. 1 mm bone lost was found in two patients after 4 years. No implant was lost during the loading time. @*Conclusion @#The preliminary clinical results of this research showed that implant supported telescopic overdentures were reliable for edentulous patients.

RESUMEN

To solve the problems in the illumination of the portable video monocular telescope for near-obser-vation. Some luminous lamp head and reflective lamp head were customerized for the telescope, and the lumi-nous lamp head was postpositively mounted at the side of the ocular lens, which or the reflective lamp head could be prepositively mounted at the side of the object lens. A wound pit on fresh pitaya was observed using portable video monocular telescope for near-observation equipped with illumination device or not. Luminous lamp head and re-flective lamp head custom-made was able to mount easily and gave the target ample illumination. Portable video monocular telescope for near-observation can be easily and cheaply equipped with luminous device giving ample il-lumination.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To report the successful application of a Keplerian telescope in a low vision patient whose visual acuity was counting fingers, which is typically a difficult range for LVA adaptation. METHODS: We used telescopes, distance low vision devices, in a 36-year-old man whose visual acuity, because of congenital corneal opacity, was limited to hand movement in his left eye and to counting fingers in his right eye. The objective was to improve his ability to participate in outdoor activities. RESULTS: Even though the patient's visual acuity was seemingly beyond improvement, his visual acuity was improved to the level of 20/100 with a distance low vision device, a Keplerian telescope 8 x 30. CONCLUSIONS: In the case of patients whose visual acuity is worse than counting fingers, it is usually difficult to improve poor vision by using telescopes for distance. However, in spite of restricted adaptation, low vision telescopes can be used to produce good results in low vision patients.

RESUMEN

STATMENT OF PROBLEM: Little in known about the importance of selection of various double crowns as retainer in determining the outcome of treatment with double crown retained removable partial denture. Purpose : To obtain information about the effects and the results of this treatment modality. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study describes 61 double crown retained removable partial dentures worn by 51 patients from Samsung Medical Center, Seoul a time ranging between 6 and 48 months and evaluate occlusal contacts on the denture teeth, denture movement, incidence of denture relining, denture retention, fracture of dentures and abutments, hygiene, residual ridge inflammatory changes, number of lost abutments, interruption of denture use. RESULTS: One tenth of all the restorations were relined. Restorations in 21 arches fractured repeatedly for various reasons. There was no apparent interrelationship between fractures and the five groups. CONCLUSION: Good prognoses of removable partial dentures were shown in all groups(Kennedy Classes I, II, III, combination and few remaining abutment).

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of legal blindness in patients aged 65 years or over in the Western world. The foveal damage affected their ability to read, recognize faces, watch TV, and drive. Increasing the size of retinal image by angular magnification devices might offer the only means for improving the visual function, therefore we implanted IMTTM (Implantable miniaturized telescope) into posterior chamber. METHODS: We experienced a case of bilateral dry type AMD in 72 years old female patient with mild cataract. Her uncorrected visual acuity was 20/500 (OU) with ETDRS chart. Near visual acuity shows 20/500 M (OD), 20/630 M (OS) with +3 D glasses. We performed successfully an ultrasonic phacoemulsification and IMTT M (Vision Care, Israel) lens implatation into the posterior chamber using a large scleral tunnel incision (170 degrees) on her right eye. RESULTS: One year following surgery, visual acuity improved up to 20/100 (20/40x+1.5 Ds) in her right eye, with possible compensatory improvement of left vision of 20/500 (20/50x+1.5 Ds). Near visual acuity was (1.0 Mx+4.5 Ds)(OD), (0.63 Mx+4.5 Ds)(OS). In addition she was able to watch TV and read the letter display, and read Bible. CONCLUSIONS: IMTTM is may be very useful for vision improvement in bilateral AMD patients.

RESUMEN

Objective:To study the influence of cusp inclination of artificial posterior teeth on abutment displacement of unilateral distal-extension telescope crown denture. Methods:Study models of mandibular unilateral distal-extension and telescope crown dentures with the cusp inclination of 0?,12?,25? and 33? were respectively prepared. When food chip was masticated on the occlusal surface and the dentures were loaded by 29.4 N, 49 N or 68.6 N, the abutment displacement was measured. Then the data were calculated and reciprocally compared with statistical analyses. Results:Between anatomic and 25? semi-anatomic artificial posterior teeth, there were significant differences in the buccolingual and vertical abutment movement(P0.05). The parallel, inclination, twist-like and vertical movement of abutment increased with the increase of the load on the denture. The difference among different level of load was statistically significant (P

RESUMEN

Based on the newly-developed engineering technologies, many kinds of useful equipment have been available for minimally invasive surgery. Recently the time to connect clinical needs and advanced technologies has become faster. In this article, we have summarized the recent technologies for endoscopic surgeries. Shadow optic technologies for better geometric perception using dual illumination in a conventional 2-D monitor and "Overview optics" for a panoramic view with an additional visual system are introduced. Micromachine technology is very close to practical implementation for minimally invasive surgeries. Virtual Biopsy is the one of the hottest topics for the next generation of endoscopy. Stereoscopic and volumetric vision systems are still on the way, which should overcome the irritating goggles and stereo display devices. As well as operational theater that integrates all the required equipment with a computer-based system, including voice recognition, still requires the standard protocols to connect many kinds of devices from different manufacturers.
