RESUMEN

Objective: To measure the carotid viscoelasticity using ultrasound shear wave dispersion (USWD), and to explore the correlation between the viscoelasticity and hemodynamics. Methods: Forty-fve volunteers without history of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events were recruited and divided into elder group (≥50 years old, n=23) and younger group (<50 years old, n = 22) according to the median age. The common carotid arteries were detected by USWD, and SWER (elastic index) and SWDR (viscous index) were obtained. Hemodynamic parameters, including velocity time integral (VTI), peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), and mean flow velocity (MFV), were measured using Doppler ultrasound. Correlations between SWER, SWDR and hemodynamic parameters were analyzed using Pearson analysis. Results: The SWER, SWDR, VTI, PSV, EDV and MFV in the elder group were significantly lower than those in the younger group (P<0.05, P<0.01). The SWER was positively correlated with VTI, PSV, EDV and MFV (r=0.354, 0.400, 0.467 and 0.310; P<0.01, P<0.05). The SWDR was negatively correlated with VTI and PSV (r= - 0.481 and - 0.522, both P<0.01), but positively correlated with MFV (r=0.352, P<0.01). Conclusion: USWD may identify the change of carotid viscoelasticity, and the change of viscoelasticity is related to hemodynamics.

RESUMEN

The lumbar sympathetic ganglion block (LSGB) is widely used for diagnosing and treating sympathetically maintained pain disorders. The LSGB has been conventionally carried out under fluoroscopy or computed tomography guidance. However, as ultrasound technology improved, ultrasound-guided interventions have been expanding their territory to deeper structures. Ultrasound guidance provides many benefits including protecting vascular injection, shortening procedure time in some cases, and reducing the emission of radiation. In this report, we describe a successful case of a US-guided LSGB without major complications. We expect that US-guided LSGBs can be implemented and furnished in the daily outpatient clinical setting by highly trained pain physicians.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the clinical value of velocity vector imaging (VVI) in the assessment of cardiac torsion in fetuses with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM).Methods Digital dynamic four-chamber views of 98 fetuses with gestational diabetes mellitus and 135 normal fetuses were collected and analyzed using VVI.Left ventricular(LV) peak apical rotation of endocardium and epicardium at basal and apical level were measured,LV peak torsion was calculated. Results 140 of 233 cases were analyzed successfully.Direction of LV peak apical and basal rotation of endocardium and epicardium in fetus could be clockwise or counter clockwise, however apical and basal level was opposite.LV peak apical and basal rotation of endocardium and epicardium in fetus were stable throughout gestation ( P > 0.05).LV peak rotation of endocardium was higher than that of epicardium in both apical and basal level. The peak rotation in apical level of endocardium and epicardium was higher than that in basal level( P <0.05).LV peak torsion of endocardium was significantly higher than that of epicardium( P <0.05).Compared with normal group,LV peak rotation of endocardium and LV peak torsion in fetus with GDM were higher( P <0.05). Conclusions VVI can measure the LV rotation and torsion parameters, and evaluate the cardiac function of GDM fetus.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation of renal neoplasms. Methods Twenty-two patients with pathologically proven renal neoplasms(18 renal cell carcinoma,3 renal angiomyolipoma,1 oncocytoma)with diameters of 1.0 to 3.8 cm were treated by microwave ablation.Cooled-shaft needle antenna was percutaneously inserted into the tumors under ultrasound guidance. One antenna was used for tumors less than 2 cm,two antennas were used for tumors larger than 2 cm.One thermal couple was placed adjacent to the tumor monitoring temperature in real-time during ablation.Immediate treatment efficacy was assessed by contrast-enhanced ultrasound within 3 days after ablation.Short-term efficacy was assessed by contrast-enhanced CT and/or contrast-enhanced ultrasound at 1,3,6 months and every 6 months thereafter. Results Twenty tumors were completely ablated in a single session,2 tumors were completely ablated in 2 sessions. No complications occurred. No residual tumor or recurrence was observed during follow-up.Conclusions Ultrasound-guided pereutaneous microwave ablation appears to be a safe and effective technique for the management of renal neoplasms in selected patients.

RESUMEN

Objective To assess the value of approximal side angle of carotid atherosclerotic plaques in patients with cerebral infarction by ultrasonography. Methods One hundred and seventy six patients with carotid atherosclerotic plaques were examined with uItrasonography and divided into two groups:cerebral infarction group (n=67)and none cerebral infarction group(n=109).Vessel area and residual lumen area of carotid artery were measured in axial view using linear probe.Area stenosis rate was calculated. The approximal side angle and thickness of plaque were measured respectively. The results of two groups were compared. Results The approximal side angle of plaque of cerebral group was significantly higher than that of none cerebral infarction groups(P<0.05).The sensitivity and specificity for approximal side angle of plaque(cutoff value:13.0°)were 79.1%,71.6%,respectively.There were no significant difference of area stenosis rate and plaque thickness between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions The approximal side angle of plaque can be regarded as a novel index to assess the stability of plaque.

RESUMEN

Objective To assess the value of ultrasonography(US)in the diagnosis of pancreas endocrine tumors(PET).Methods Thirty-six patients with PET confirmed by surgery and pathology were retrospectively reviewed. Results There were 37 PET in 36 patients, among which 33 tumors in 32 cases were detected bv US,four tumors were missed on US and the detection rate was 88.9%(32/36).The tumor size was 1.0 cm×0.8 cm~12.9 cm× 11.3 cm.Among 12 cases of equal to or less than 2 cm,9 tumors were detected and the detection rate was 75.0%.PET presented mostly hypoechogenicity(78.8%),other 7 cases presented mixed-echogenicity.Color Doppler US was performed on 12 cases and 11 tumors showed color blood signals.Abundant flow signal was detected in 8 tumors(66.7%).PET were found in pancreatic head (n=11),neck(n=2),body(n=6)and tail(n=11),which was diagnosed correctly in 30 cases (81.1%).Conclusions US is a useful tool in the detection and diagnosis of PET.

RESUMEN

Objective To explore the utility of the diagnosis and typing to the ureterocysts using ultrasonography. Methods Based on the difference of anatomical location and appearance of cysts.the ureterocysts were divided into 4 types as fllowing:⑴Type of inside bladder:ureterocysts completely location in the inside of bladder.⑵Type of outside bladder:ureterocysts completely location in the outside of bladder.⑶Type of mixture:a part of cysts location in the inside of balader and other part localed in the outsider.⑷Type of ectopia:rare, cysts location in the neck of bladder or urethra usually complicated whith double kidney and abnormal location in the end of the ureter. Results UItrasonographic manifestations of 15 cases for ureterocele were reported. There were 3 cases of bilateral ureterocele and 18 cysts with a diameter 0 4cm~6 0cm. In which ,Type of inside bladder had 8 cases with 9cysts altogether .Type of outside bladdder had 2cases with 2 cysts only,Type of mixture had 5cases with 7 cysts;Type of ectopia had no one in this report .All cases were confirmed by ureteropyelography,in which,6 cases confirmed by surgical pathological examinations. Conclusion Ultrasonography has a high clinical value in the diagnosis and typing of ureterocele.
