RESUMEN

Objetivo: Analizar la resistencia de unión a dentina sana y desmineralizada, en forma inmediata y a los 6 meses, utilizando un pretratamiento de clorhexidina (CHX) 2%. Método: 40 terceros molares sanos con desarrollo radicular incompleto se desgastaron exponiendo dentina. Las piezas fueron sometidas a ciclado de pH. Se dividieron aleatoriamente en 2 grupos: con y sin CHX. En dentina se crearon 4 botones de resina utilizando adhesivo universal mediante autoacondicionamiento. Las muestras se almacenaron en agua destilada a 37ºC hasta su análisis. El microcizallamiento se ejecutó a las 24 horas y a los 6 meses de envejecimiento. Resultados: El grupo de dentina sana, sin CHX inmediato presentó mayor resistencia adhesiva (23,37±1,84). El grupo de dentina desmineralizada, sin CHX, envejecido presentó la menor resistencia adhesiva (8,87±1,51). Conclusiones: La CHX al 2% previo a la aplicación del adhesivo no mejora los valores de resistencia de unión a dentina sana ni desmineralizada a corto o largo plazo.


Objetivo: Analisar a resistência de união à dentina hígida e desmineralizada, imediatamente e após 6 meses, utilizando um pré-tratamento com (CHX) a 2%. Método: 40 terceiros molares hígidos com desenvolvimento radicular incompleto foram desgastados expondo a dentina. As peças foram submetidas a ciclagem de pH. Eles foram divididos aleatoriamente em 2 grupos: com e sem CHX. Em dentina, foram criados 4 botões de resina utilizando adesivo universal em modo autocondicionante. As amostras foram armazenadas em água destilada a 37ºC até a análise. O microcisalhamento foi realizado às 24 horas e aos 6 meses de envelhecimento. Resultados: O grupo de dentina saudável, sem CHX imediata apresentou maior resistência adesiva (23,37±1,84). O grupo de dentina desmineralizada, sem CHX , envelhecida apresentou a menor resistência adesiva (8,87±1,51). Conclusões : A CHX antes da aplicação do adesivo não melhoraria os valores de resistência de união em dentina saudável ou desmineralizada a curto ou longo prazo.


Objective: To analyze the bond strength to healthy and demineralized dentin, immediately and after 6 months, using a 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) pretreatment. Method : 40 healthy third molars with incomplete root development were abraded exposing dentin. The pieces were subjected to pH cycling. They were randomly divided into 2 groups: with and without CHX. In dentin, 4 resin buttons were created using universal adhesive in self-etching mode. The samples were stored in distilled water at 37ºC until analysis. Micro shearing was carried out at 24 hours and at 6 months of aging. Results: Healthy dentin group, without immediate CHX presented higher bond strength (23.37±1.84). (Demineralized dentin group, without CHX, aged) presented the lowest bond strength (8.87±1.51). Conclusions : CHX prior to adhesive application doesn't improve bond strength values to healthy or demineralized dentin in short nor long term.

Abstract This study evaluated the effects of alternative self-etch application modes on resin-dentin microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of three commercially available "no wait" concept universal adhesives. In this study extracted impacted non-carious human third molars were used. The flat surfaces were prepared in mid-coronal dentin and prepared with a 600-grit SiC paper. The three universal adhesives that were used are as follows: Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CUQ, Kuraray Noritake, Japan), G-Premio Bond (GPB, GC Corp, Japan), and a self-curing universal adhesive "Tokuyama Universal Bond" (TUB; Tokuyama Dental, Japan). The following three different application procedures were used for the dentin surfaces: the adhesives were applied and immediately subjected to air-dry; the adhesives were applied followed by a 10-second wait; or the adhesives were rubbed for 10 seconds. Then composite resin was applied to the dentin surface and light cured. After storage in 37°C distilled water for 24 h, all the bonded teeth were cut into 1mm² sections using a low-speed diamond saw (Micracut 125 Low Speed Precision Cutter, Metkon, Bursa, Turkey) under running water (n=15). The sections were subjected to a tensile force at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min in a testing apparatus (Microtensile Tester, Bisco, IL, USA) and µTBS values were measured. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test. Failure modes were analyzed under a stereomicroscope. Prolonged application time significantly affected the µTBS (p<0.005). A significant increase of µTBS on active application was observed for CUQ and GPB. The TUB with an active application had a significantly lower µTBS value compared with the other adhesives. Prolonged application time caused significant improvement of bond strength in all adhesives. The active application is effective at increasing the dentin bond strength except for TUB.


Resumen Este estudio evaluó los efectos de los modos alternativos de aplicación de adhesivos de autograbado en la resistencia de la unión microtensil entre resina y dentina (µTBS) de tres adhesivos universales de concepto "no espera" disponibles en el mercado. En este estudio se utilizaron terceros molares humanos impactados que fueron extraídos. Las superficies planas se prepararon en la dentina coronal media y se prepararon con un papel SiC de 600 granos. Los tres adhesivos universales que se utilizaron son los siguientes: Clearfil Universal Quick Bond (CUQ, Kuraray Noritake, Japón), G-Premio Bond (GPB, GC Corp, Japón), y un adhesivo universal autopolimerizable "Tokuyama Universal Bond" (TUB; Tokuyama Dental, Japón). Se utilizaron los tres procedimientos de aplicación siguientes para las superficies dentinarias: se aplicaron los adhesivos y se sometieron inmediatamente a un secado al aire; se aplicaron los adhesivos y se esperó 10 segundos; o se frotaron los adhesivos durante 10 segundos. Luego se aplicó resina compuesta a la superficie dentinaria y se fotopolimerizó. Después de su almacenamiento en agua destilada a 37°C durante 24 h, todos los dientes unidos se cortaron en secciones de 1mm² utilizando una sierra de diamante de baja velocidad (Micracut 125 Low Speed Precision Cutter, Metkon, Bursa, Turquía) bajo agua corriente (n=15). Las secciones fueron sometidas a una fuerza de tracción a una velocidad de cruceta de 1mm/min en una máquina de prueba universal (Microtensile Tester, Bisco, IL, USA) y se midieron los valores de µTBS. Los datos fueron analizados utilizando la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis y la prueba U de Mann-Whitney. Los modos de falla fueron analizados bajo un estereomicroscopio. El prolongado tiempo de aplicación afectó significativamente a los µTBS (p<0,005). Se observó un aumento significativo de µTBS en la aplicación activa para el CUQ y el GPB. El TUB con una aplicación activa tuvo un valor de µTBS significativamente más bajo comparado con los otros adhesivos. El tiempo de aplicación prolongado causó una mejora significativa de la fuerza de adhesión en todos los adhesivos. La aplicación activa es efectiva para aumentar la fuerza de adhesión de la dentina, excepto para el TUB.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of the application mode of three universal adhesive systems on interfacial physical properties of indirect composite restorations adhesively cemented to dentin cavities. Seventy-eight bovine lower incisors were selected and a slice of dentin (thickness: 2 mm) between the buccal surface and pulp chamber was obtained for each tooth. Conical cavities were made on this surface. The internal walls of the cavities were then coated with a hydrophilic gel, filled with composite resin and photopolymerized. The dentin/cone sets were divided into 6 groups (n=10) according to type of universal adhesive (TETRI: Tetric N Bond, FUT: Futura Bond U, SBU: Single Bond Universal) and acid etching on dentin (A: with acid etching; WA: without acid etching). The acid etching and the adhesive systems were applied to the surface of the dentin. All composite resin cones were sandblasted (Al2O3, 20 s) and silanized. After surface treatment, the cones were cemented (RelyX Ultimate) into the dentin cavity and photopolymerized. After thermocycling (10,000 cycles), samples were submitted to marginal adaptation analysis (using caries detector dye), push-out test (0.5 mm/min), and failure mode analysis. Additional samples were prepared for nanoleakage analysis (SEM). The data (MPa) were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-test (5%). The groups in which the dentin was acid etched showed significantly lower bond strength values in the push-out test (p<0.01). Dentin acid etching significantly reduced the bond strength between universal adhesive systems and dentin in indirect restorative procedures.


Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência do modo de aplicação de três sistemas adesivos universais nas propriedades físicas interfaciais de restaurações indiretas de compósito adesivamente cimentadas a cavidades dentinária. Setenta e oito incisivos inferiores bovinos foram selecionados e uma fatia de dentina (espessura: 2 mm) entre a face vestibular e a câmara pulpar foi obtida para cada dente. Cavidades cônicas foram feitas nesta superfície. As paredes internas das cavidades foram então revestidas com um gel hidrofílico, preenchidas com resina composta, e fotopolimerizados. Os conjuntos dentina/cone foram divididos em 6 grupos (n=10) de acordo com o tipo de adesivo universal (TETRI: Tetric N Bond, FUT: Futura Bond U, SBU: Single Bond Universal) e ácido na dentina (A: com condicionamento ácido; WA: sem condicionamento ácido). O condicionamento ácido e os sistemas adesivos foram aplicados na superfície da dentina. Todos os cones de resina composta foram jateados (Al2O3, 20 s) e silanizados. Após o tratamento superficial, os cones foram cimentados (RelyX Ultimate) na cavidade dentinária e fotopolimerizados. Após a termociclagem (10.000 ciclos), as amostras foram submetidas a análise de adaptação marginal (usando corante detector de carie), teste push-out (0,5 mm/min) e análise do modo de falha. Amostras adicionais foram preparadas para análise de nanoinfiltração (MEV). Os dados (MPa) foram analisados por ANOVA dois fatores e pós-teste de Tukey (5%). Os grupos em que a dentina foi condicionada por ácido apresentaram valores significativamente menores de resistência de união no teste push-out (p<0,01). O condicionamento ácido da dentina reduziu significativamente a resistência de união entre sistemas adesivos universais e dentina em procedimentos restauradores indiretos.

This study aimed to investigate whether pre-curing the universal adhesives affect the resin bonding to zirconia ceramic. Two commercial universal adhesives (All-Bond Universal, ABU; Single Bond Universal Adhesive, SBU) were tested in comparison with a conventional zirconia primer (Z-Prime Plus, ZPP). Air-abraded zirconia specimens were divided into six groups, to which different priming agents were applied with or without photo-polymerization. After resin cylinders were built on the primed zirconia surface using a resin cement (Duo-Link), all bonded specimens were stored in water at 37℃ for 24 hours and half of them (n = 12) were additionally thermocycled 5,000 times. A shear bond strength test was performed at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/minute and failure modes were assessed using an optical microscope at 25× magnification. Before thermocycling, the light-cured specimens of ABU and SBU showed higher bond strengths than the uncured ones of the materials (p 0.05). After thermal aging, there were significant decreases in the bond strength for all specimens treated with the universal adhesives (p 0.05) and attained higher bond strength values for both the pre-cured and uncured specimens when compared to the two universal adhesives (p<0.05). Adhesive failures were predominant in all test groups and thermocycling resulted in the higher incidences of adhesive failures for the uncured groups, which was not shown in the pre-cured groups.

Objective: to compare, through a systematic review and a meta-analysis, the clinical effect of the adhesive strategies of universal adhesives (UA) in the treatment of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs). material and method: a search of the literature was carried out up to january 2018, in the biomedical databases: Pubmed, Embase, Scielo, Science Direct, SIGLE, LILACS, BBO, Google Scholar and the Central Register of Cochrane Clinical Trials. the selection criteria of the studies were as: randomized clinical trials, with a maximum age of 5 years and which report the clinical effects (marginal adaptation, discoloration or marginal staining, presence of secondary caries, postoperative sensitivity, retention and fractures) of the UA in the treatment of NCCLs. the risk of study bias was analyzed through the Cochrane Handbook of systematic reviews of interventions. results: the search strategy resulted in eight articles that reported no difference in marginal adaptation, discoloration or marginal staining, presence of secondary caries and postoperative sensitivity among the adhesive strategies of the UA; however they reported a difference between the retention and the presence of fractures, with the conventional adhesive strategy resulting in a better clinical effect. conclusion: the reviewed literature suggests that the conventional adhesive strategy of UAs results in greater retention and absence of fractures in the treatment of NCCLs.

OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to conduct a systematic review of the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of multi-mode adhesives to dentin and to perform a meta-analysis to assess the significance of differences in the µTBS of one of the most commonly used universal adhesives (Scotchbond Universal, 3M ESPE) depending on whether the etch-and-rinse or self-etch mode was used. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An electronic search was performed of MEDLINE/PubMed, ScienceDirect, and EBSCOhost. Laboratory studies that evaluated the µTBS of multi-mode adhesives to dentin using either the etch-and-rinse or self-etch mode were selected. A meta-analysis was conducted of the reviewed studies to quantify the differences in the µTBS of Scotchbond Universal adhesive. RESULTS: Only 10 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria for the systematic review. Extensive variation was found in the restorative materials, testing methodologies, and failure mode in the reviewed articles. Furthermore, variation was also observed in the dimensions of the microtensile testing beams. The meta-analysis showed no statistically significant difference between the etch-and-rinse and self-etch modes for Scotchbond Universal adhesive (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Multi-mode ‘universal’ adhesives can achieve substantial bonding to dentin, regardless of the used modes (either etch-and-rinse or self-etch).

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the compatibility of universal adhesives with two dual-cured resin cements. Eighty human molars were divided into eight groups. Tooth was embedded in self-curing acrylic resin and sectioned horizontally to exposure dentine surface. After polishing with 600-grit SiC paper, adhesives were applied. All-Bond Universal (Bisco), G-premio bond (GC), Scotch-bond universal (3M ESPE), Scotch-bond Multipurpose (3M ESPE) were used in this study. Calibra (Dentsply) as a conventional dual-curing resin cement and RelyX Ultimate (3M ESPE) as an amine free resin cement were used. The adhesives and the cements were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. Final specimens were cylinder (diameter 2mm, height 3mm) shape. After storing in distilled water at 37℃ for 7 days the shear bond strength (SBS) test was performed. There was no significant difference in shear bond strength between the adhesives when RelyX Ultimate was used (p>0.05). However, when Calibra used with Scotch-bond Multipurpose and All-Bond Universal were used, statistically higher SBS was observed, as compared to the groups which Calibra cements with G-premio bond and Scotch-bond universal adhesive (p < 0.05) were used. Within the limitations of this study, RelyX Ultimate resin cement was compatible with universal adhesives of various pH. All-Bond Universal adhesive was compatible with a resin cement containing the tertiary amine.

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the dentin bonding strength evaluation between adult permanent teeth and youth permanent teeth after treatment for different durations by universal adhesives.@*METHODS@#Ten adult permanent teeth and ten youth permanent teeth were selected for this study. The occlusal enamel layer was removed, and each tooth was cut into three pieces along the long axis. In total, 30 pieces of adult and youth teeth were prepared. The adult and youth teeth pieces were randomly divided into three groups and treated by universal adhesives for 10, 20, and 30 s. In this study, Scotchbond Universal (SBU) was selected as the universal adhesive. Slabs were treated by dual-cure resin cements. The specimens were tested by microshear strength test through a universal testing machine. Fracture modes were observed by a stereomicroscope. Other adult teeth and youth teeth were selected, two for each type, and treated and grouped in the same manner. Fluorescein (0.1% Rhodamine B) was dissolved in SBU adhesive, and the specimens were treated by the adhesives for 10, 20, and 30 s. Micromorphology of the resin protrusions on the adhesive surface was observed by laser confocal microscopy (CLSM).@*RESULTS@#For the adult teeth, the highest micro-shear bonding strength was observed in the 20 and 30 s groups, and the values were higher than that of the 10 s group (P0.05). The main break patterns in different groups comprised adhesive failure fractures and several mixed failure fractures. No resin fracture mode was observed. CLSM revealed very few short resin protrusions in 10 s adult teeth group, whereas the number and length of resin protrusions significantly increased in the 20 s adult teeth group. The resin protrusions of the 30 s group were shorter than those of the 20 s adult teeth group. In different durations, the bonding interface in different youth teeth groups presented the same trend of change as the adult teeth. However, the number and length of resin protrusions in the 10 s group of youth teeth were all higher than those of the 10 s adult teeth group.@*CONCLUSIONS@#In clinical practice, the bonding agent treatment duration shall be shortened appropriately for youth permanent teeth, and that for adult permanent teeth shall not be shortened to less than 20 s. On the whole, the bond strength of youth permanent teeth can achieve no significant difference with the adult permanent teeth.
