RESUMEN

Objective: To evaluate and compare the denture satisfaction tendencies for and between the completely and partially edentulous patients, with different prosthodontic treatment modalities. Methodology: The study was conducted to include twenty eight patients that were fit to the criteria of the research, asked to answer some questions, reflect their satisfaction with the newly received dentures, which were delivered to patients according to their conditions and needs (complete removable denture, conventional metal frame RPD, RPD with flexible esthetic clasps and RPD with attachments). Results:The data collected from these patients was grouped and the questionnaires values were calculated to estimate the most satisfied group, which was seen with the group who received RPD with flexible esthetic clasps. But the significant difference analysed by Mann-Whitney Test, was focused on the satisfaction of prostheses’ appearance, that was clearly revealed for the patients who received RPD with resilient attachments; followed by the group who received complete dentures and RPD with esthetic flexible clasp (at the same level), supported by the family and friends positive opinions. Also the same group that received RPD with attachments achieved optimum level in prosthesis’ satisfaction for retention. Conclusion:The results of this research directed the attention to the recent treatment modalities in fabrication of dentures, like using flexible esthetic clasps and attachments; the patients that received RPD with flexible esthetic clasps appeared to be more satisfied with their prostheses, mostly this was related to the comfortability, esthetic and retention traits, followed with group that received RPD with attachments that showed significant differences in esthetic and retention scores than other groups. While the complete denture wearers were the less satisfied group, related obviously to the difficulty to gain the retention in relation to the partial once, as well as the uncomfortable feelings.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate correlations between denture satisfaction and various factors related to patients' and wearing dentures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Total 43 edentulous patients were recalled and they were wearing complete dentures fabricated more than one year ago. For patients' subjective assessment, the questionnaire based on the various literatures was developed and applied to patients for data acquisition. In addition, correlations were evaluated between subjective assessment and denture satisfaction score. For statistical analysis, Spearman correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis, Mann-whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to found out what the most considerable factors to denture satisfaction score (P < 0.05). RESULTS: Denture satisfaction score of maxilla was higher than mandible (P < 0.05). In functional aspects, maxillary denture were received a favorable evaluation. Especially fit and pain causing were highly correlated to satisfaction. Gender, age, using period, visiting times after manufacturing denture were unrelated to satisfaction. But previous experience was related to denture satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Denture satisfaction was determined by a combination of various factors related to patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated on the severity of dry mouth in the hansen people and the association between dry mouth(low, moderate and high) with pre and post wearing denture satisfaction. METHODS: Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 104 hansen people(mean age=69.3). Data were collected by means of a personal interview from April 30 through to Jane 20, 2014. Pre and post wearing denture satisfaction was measured by the 24-items and dry mouth was measured by the 4-items. The data was analysed with t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Logistic regression using the SPSS program. RESULTS: Regarding perception of dry mouth, the subjects achieved a mean of 6.13 out of a maximum 12 points. Scores were categorised as high(8~12), medium(5~7) or low(1~4) and the proportion were 24.5%(9.56), 42.2%(5.81) and 33.3%(4.00) respectively. Those who were older and had fewer natural teeth felt that their perception of dry mouth was more severe. A logistic regression analysis showed that the subjects perception of dry mouth had a significant impact on their gender (OR=2.73), comfort (OR=0.21), aesthetic appreciation (OR=7.56) satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the findings, the perception of dry mouth has a significant and negative impact on denture satisfaction. These results suggest that oral health promotion should be considered various factors related dry mouth in the elderly with removable denture.
