RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the effects of acupuncture at points Baihui (GV20), Yintang (Ex-HN3) and Sishencong (Ex-HN1) on spatial learning and memory abilities and hippocampal expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in a rat model of post-stroke depression (PSD). Method Thirty male adult SD rats were allocated, using a random number table, tocontrol, acupuncture and sham operation groups, 10 rats each. A rat model of PSD was made by classical middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) using an intraluminal thread technique, chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) and solitary feeding. At the fourteenth day after the beginning of stress, the acupuncture group received acupuncture intervention for 14 consecutive days. At one week after the end of stress, the Morris water maze test was conducted to assess rat spatial learning and memory abilities. After the completion of the water maze test, hippocampal CA3 regional BDNF expression was determined by immunohistochemical method. Result Rat learning and memory abilities decreased significantly in the control group compared with the sham operation group (P<0.05). Space exploration time and the number of crossing platform reflecting memory abilities decreased significantly in the control group (22.36±6.20 s and 3.72±0.90 times, respectively) compared with the sham operation group (48.73±5.40 s and 8.60±1.10 times, respectively); there were statistically significant differences (P<0.01). Learning abilities, space exploration time, the number of crossing platform and BDNF expression increased significantly in PSD rats treated with acupuncture compared with the control group; there were statistically significant differences (P<0.01). Conclusion Acupuncture can improve spatial learning and memory abilities and raise hippocampal regional BDNF levels in rats with post-stroke depression.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the effects of the memory intervention on dysmnesia of elder people in 6 months as well as the intervention method and intervention duration. Methods 100 elderly people in Tangshan communities with memory impairment, with score less than 22 by Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test Second Edition( RBMT Ⅱ) ,were randomly selected and divided into the intervention group(n=50) and control group( n =50). The intervention group were given personalized memory training while the control group just went its normal course. Each group was evaluated with score by RBMT Ⅱ after 3 and 6 months respectively. All the data were made analysis of variance and t test using SPSS 13.0 software. Results After 6 months of intervention, the evaluation scores in the following aspects of the standard score, immediate story recalling, immediate route recalling, letter recalling, orientation, date and appointments recalling, delayed story recalling, name recalling and the hidden recalling were significantly higher than those of control group(P< 0. 01 or P< 0.05 ). The scores in the standard score, immediate story recalling, imformation recalling, appointments recalling, delayed story recalling, name recalling after 6 months of intervention were significantly higher than those before intervention(P< 0.01 or P< 0.05). The RBMT Ⅱ score increased significantly from (17.10±2.38 ) before the intervention to ( 19.90 ±2.17) after 3 months of intervention and to( 21.63 ± 1.45 ) after 6 months (P<0.01). Conclusion Memory intervention is an effective method worthy to be widely spread in the communities in improving the memory of elderly people with dysmnesia.

RESUMEN

Objective To study the utility of sleep intervention combined with memory training for alleviating dysmnesia in the elderly and provide a basis for improving memory function. Methods A total of 647 community-dwelling elderly people were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Rivermead behavioral memory test ( RBMT). One hundred and fifty elderly persons with sleep disorders and dysmnesia were divided into three groups; the control group, the memory intervention group, and the sleep plus memory training group. Sleep quality and dysmnesia were evaluated again after 3 months of intervention. Results Among the 647 elderly people, the incidence of sleep disorders was 38. 8% , and of dysmnesia was 78. 4%. Dysmnesia was significantly more prevalent among subjects who also had sleep disorders. After three months of intervention, instant recall scores had declined in the control group while scores on 7 kinds of memory function had improved significantly in the memory intervention group. Scores on 10 measures of memory and sleep quality improved in the sleep plus memory intervention group. Compared to the control group, scores on 9 kinds of memory improved significantly in the memory intervention group and scores on 11 kinds of memory improved in the sleep plus memory intervention group. Compared to the memory intervention group, scores on 5 kinds of memory had improved significantly in the sleep plus memory intervention group. Conclusions The occurrence of dysmnesia in elderly people is influenced by sleep quality. Memory training can improve their memory function, but sleep intervention combined with memory training is even more effective.

RESUMEN

Objective To study on FBD (composed with Poria cocos, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Angelica sinensis) used to improve learning and memory function of animals. Methods The mice were treated by ig FBD with the doses of 35, 70 and 140 mg/kg for one week continuously. Effect of FBD on dysmnesia of acquired learning of mice induced by scopolamine, dysmnesia of memory retention of mice induced by NaNO2, and dysmnesia of reappearance of memory of mice induced by 45% ethanol were studied. Improvement for the dysmnesia of memory due to chronic blood deficiency in brain of rats induced by ligating the carotid arteries of two sides were observed. Results FBD can improve the dysmnesia of mice induced by scopolamine, NaNO2, and 45% ethanol significantly, also dysmnesia due to chronic blood deficiency in brain of rats induced by ligating the carotid arteries. Conclusion FBD has the function to improve the learning and memory function of animals.

RESUMEN

Objective To observe the effects of Qingzhi soft capsule(QSC) on improving experimental memory in mice. Methods The model of vascular dementia was made by means of bilateral carotid artery ligation and reperfusion after 8 minutes in mice.Another model of learn and memory disorder was induced by subcutaneous injection of sodium nitrite. The effects of Qingzhi soft capsule on memory disorder were evaluated by step-down test,Y-maze test in mice. Results Compared with sham-operated group, for the mice model of vascular dementia suffered cerebral ischemia and neural cell injury, the step down latency of animal model was shorter(P
