Intraosseous Ganglion with Pathologic Fracture of the Lunate / 계명의대학술지

Although intraosseous ganglion of the carpal bones is an uncommon lesion, it can be a cause of chronic wrist pain. Especially, pathologic fracture as complication of idiopathic intraosseous ganglion of the lunate is extremely rare. We report a rare case of idiopathic intraosseous ganglion with pathologic fracture of the lunate that was successfully treated by curettage and autogenous cancellous bone graft.

Intraosseous ganglion is a benign cystic lesion. It is composed of fibrous tissue with mucoid changes located in the subchondral bone adjacent to a joint. Intraosseous ganglion has been reported in various skeletal sites and most commonly in the lower end of the tibia and femur. However reports of intraosseous ganglion of the glenoid are rare, with only 14 cases in the literature. We repot 2 cases of intraosseous ganglion of the glenoid with literature reviews.

Arthroscopic Assisted Treatment of Intraosseous Ganglion of the Scaphoid Associated with Occult Ganglion: A Case Report

Intraosseous ganglion of the scaphoid associated with occult ganglion is rare. A 27-year-old man who presented with a 4-month history of progressive left wrist pain visited our institution. The patient was diagnosed intrasosseous ganglion of the carpal scaphoid assosiated with occult ganglion. We obtained satisfactory result by arthroscopic procedure and report this case focusing on surgical technique with literature review.

Ganglia in the wirst are frequent, but intraosseous ganglia of the carpal bone are uncommon. We report upon two patients with intraosseous ganglia that involved the scaphoid bone, review the literature.

Intraosseous Ganglion of Both Patellae: A Case Report

An intraosseous ganglion cyst, of which pathogenesis is unclear, is grossly and histologically identical to soft tissue ganglion. It predominates in the subchondral regions of tubular bones and is an osteolytic lesion that is well demarcated, radiographically. Pathologically, it is composed of a multilocular, thick, fibrous walled cyst-like structure filled with a slimy, mucin rich fluid. Curettage or curettage with bone graft is usually curative. Authors experienced a case diagnosed as intraosseous ganglia of both patellae. A 37-year-old man complained of both knee joint pains for about 4 month. About 1 year ago prior to this visit, he was treated one time because of the anterior knee pain. In the following X-rays, a well-defined osteolytic lesion involving the subchondral area of both patellae was showed. After CT and bone scan-ning, excision biopsy with curettage was performed. The thick, jelly-like mucinous fluid oozed out. His-tological findings were consistent with an intraosseous ganglion cyst. At 8 months follow-up, pain was completely resolved and other abnormal findings were not observed clinically.

Intraosseous ganglion is an uncommon benign tumor thought to be caused by an intramedullary metaplastic event. We recently experienced a case of intraosseous ganglion that occurred on the femoral head of a 65-year old man who complained of intermittent hip pain. Complete evaluation including bone scan, CT, MRI was done. His pain disappeared after curettage and bone graft was done on the lesion.

Intraosseous Ganglion: Report of a case

Ganglia in soft tissue are common and usually occur in close relations with joints, tendon sheaths, or tendons. However, intra-osseous ganglia are very rare. We report a case of intra-osseous ganglion arising from the right sided proximal humerus in a 33 year-old woman. It was multiple cysts surrounded by thin rims of sclerotic bone in the subchondral epiphysis without other features of degenerative joint disease or destruction of adjacent soft tissue.

The intraosseous ganglion is a rare cystic lesion of bone most frequently located in the subchondral epiphysis of long bones with or without direct communication with a joint cavity. This case is reported to call attention to this lesion which deserves consideration in the differential diagnosis of solitary cystic lesions of bone. We were reported a 59-aged woman without direct communication with the knee joint and osteoarthritis which was treated with the curettage and chip-bone graft.
