@#Piper aduncum essential oil exhibit repellency activity and has a potential to be use as an alternative for synthetic repellent such as N,N-diethyl-3- methylbenzamide, (DEET). However, the volatility properties of the essential oil decrease their persistence as a topical repellent. Study has shown that formulation of the essential oil with some fixatives may increase their effectiveness. Therefore, this study was conduct to evaluate the effectiveness of gel formulation containing P. aduncum essential oil with two fixative; vanillin and paraffin oil. Gel formulations containing P. aduncum essential oil with 5% and 10% vanillin and 6% paraffin oil was prepared and tested against Aedes aegypti in laboratory using Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) bioassay method. After 240 minute post-application, formulation containing 5% and 10% vanillin was able to provide >70% repellency percentage against mosquito while formulation containing 6% paraffin oil gives <30% repellency percentage. As conclusion, P. aduncum based repellent gel containing 5% and 10% vanillin was able to prolong the effect of P. aduncum essential oil as repellent against dengue vector in laboratory.
RESUMEN
“Paraffinoma” is a well-recognized complication of paraffin oil injection into various body parts for an aesthetic purpose. After a variable latency phase, paraffinoma can present as a wide range of clinical symptoms. This paper is a case report of surgical excision of the paraffinoma and subsequent reconstruction of the associated skin defect on bilateral preauricular cheeks, manifesting 50 years after a primary injection.

Objective To compare the effects of no-rinse skin cleanser and warm water with paraffin oil in first brush bath of the new-born. Methods About 42 newborns who were born from January to March 2016 were set as control group and used warm water with paraffin oil in first brush bath. About 43 newborns who were born from April to June 2016 were set as observation group and used no-rinse skin cleanser in first brush bath. The cleaning time and effect ,the rectal temperature before and after sponge and dermatitis were compared. Results Both groups did not develop dermatitis. But the observation group had better cleaning satisfaction , less cleaning time, faster rewarming than those of the control group with statistical significance (all p<0.05). Conclusion No-rinse skin cleanser used in the first brush for the new-born can reduce cleaning time and difference of temperature, which is safe for clinical application.

Objective To evaluate the effects of dyclonine gel on the success rate and complication of laryngeal mask airway(LMA)insertion. Methods Eighty ASAⅠ~Ⅱpatients undergoing ureteroscopic lithotripsy under general anesthesia received insertion of LMA coated with either dyclonine gel(group A,n=40)or paraffin oil(group B ,n = 40). Systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP)and heart rate(HR)were recorded before anesthesia (T0),after induction (T1),at LMA insertion (T2),and 3 min after LMA insertion (T3). Time and frequency of LMA insertion ,incidence of abnormal sensation of pharynx and sore throat after surgery in 2 groups were recorded. Results Compared with those at T0,the SBP,DBP and HR were lower at T1, T2 and T3 in 2 groups(P<0.05). The one-time success rate of group A and group B were 90%and 97.5%respec-tively(P>0.05).The incidence of abnormal sensation of pharynx and sore throat was significantly lower in group A (5%vs. 20%)(P<0.05). Conclusion Dyclonine gel cream-coated LMA can reduce the incidence of sore throat in patients undergoing ureteroscopic lithotripsy under general anesthesia.

RESUMEN
OBJECTIVE To study effective and convenient method for paraffin oil sterilization.METHODS By using carrier qualitative germicidal test,to compare pressure steam sterilization,dry heat sterilization and cobalt-60(gamma)-ray radiation sterilization to test the sterilizing effect and operating procedure.RESULTS Pressure steam sterilization was unable to achieve 100% sterilizing effect,whether we extended the time or use the intermittent(sterilization).After dry heat or radiation sterilization processes,no microorganism was found.CONCLUSIONS Effect of sterilization with dry heat or radiation sterilization is trustable,but its packing,operation and equipment are requested strictly,and pressure steam sterilization may be not good for paraffin oil.
