Parafunctional habits are characterized as involuntary and multifactorial movements, and the main causal factors may be stress and anxiety. This condition often leads to a decrease in the vertical dimension of occlusion due to tooth wear, impairing chewing, phonation, aesthetics and functions, and therefore its diagnosis and treatment are of supreme importance. The former takes place through anamnesis, associated with a clinical examination and, if necessary, additional tests. The clinicaltherapeutic approach is wide and multidisciplinary and must operate on the causal factor and its consequences, with a range of therapeutic possibilities, turning it a complex treatment. Therefore, the study presents a treatment of a case report where the patient had loss of vertical dimension of occlusion, dental wear and functional and aesthetic complaints. The technique was performed by increasing the vertical dimension through Table Tops and anterior veneers, both in composite resin attached to a multidisciplinary advice. This work showed the importance of performing a correct rehabilitation technique, because the overload and loss of vertical dimension can cause damage to the stomatognathic system, harming the temporomandibular joint, ligaments, muscles and teeth. In this context, it is concluded that a thorough evaluation of the patient is very important, having a correct planning of the case for a correct treatment and a positive prognosis(AU)

RESUMEN

This systematic review (SR) synthesises recent evidence and assesses the methodological quality of published SRs in the Differential diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). A systematic literature search was conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Bandolier databases for 1987 to September 2019. Three investigators evaluated the methodological quality of each identified SR using two measurement tools: The assessment of multiple systematic reviews (AMSTAR) and level of research design scoring. Thirty-one SRs met inclusion criteria and 28 were analysed: 20 qualitative SRs and eight meta-analysis.The main aim of this article is to Differential diagnose the pain which is not related to any dental disease. Most of dental clinician have problem to diagnose TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders) and Orofacial Muscle pain. The approach of this article is to simplify the differential diagnosis for better and fast treatment of the respective disease by classifying various TMJ related and muscle related problems

Objective. To evaluate the prevalence of eroding facets. Material and Methods. A descriptive and cross study was made in patients of the Clinica Especializada of the San Martin de Porres University, during the months of April to June 2012. The sample consisted of 245 patients, to whom was conducted a dental examination and a questionnaire was given to evaluate the following factors: patient age, gender, occupation, number of teeth with eroding facets, factor spredisposing to the appearance of eroding surfaces. Results. The values obtained show that 77.55% of patients had eroding facets, with no difference between males and females. The most affected age group was patients from 18 to 33 years old (34.74%) followed by the group from 34 to49 years old(31.05%). The teeth most affected were the incisors (43.26%), followed by the canines (28.11%), which also showed increased sensitivity to touch and air blast. Vigorous brushing was the single predisposing factor of significance that was found.

RESUMEN

The aims of the present study were to determine the prevalence of dental abfraction among a sample of adult Sudanese patients and to investigate the possible association between abfraction and different etiological factors. The diagnosis of abfraction included both clinical examination and laboratory work. All attended patients were examined for presence of cervical lesion. Complete clinical history was obtained from the examined cases by using self report questionnaire. Impression was taken for cases with suspected abfraction by using additional silicon impression material; a study cast was evaluated for every case. Analysis of the study was conducted by applying an inlay wax over the lesion to produce wax pattern. The wax pattern was evaluated; any pattern that had a wedge shape was considered as an abfraction lesion. Prevalence of dental abfraction was found to be about 9.4%. Males and females were equally affected, mandibular and maxillary premolars are the most frequently affected teeth. There was a direct correlation between abfraction and parafunctional habits.

The body posture is an essential factor in the development of the oral functions and in the etiology of the parafunctions. There are anatomical and nervous connections that make the body and jaw position to influence the activity of the cervical muscles and viceversa. This literature review, describes those connections, the influence of the posture on the physiological oral functions and the objective way to measure the posture so the dentists could do it in the daily practice.
