Objective:The cluster analysis method was applied to evaluate the scientific research performance evaluation index system of departments in an obstetrics and gynecology hospital, and analyze the weaknesses of scientific research work of various departments, to provide a basis for the improvement of scientific research strength of departments.Methods:On the basis of the scientific research performance evaluation index system of departments in the obstetrics and gynecology hospital, the indicators and weights of the system were optimized through expert consultation, and the scientific research values from 2019 to 2021 were brought into the optimized scientific research performance evaluation index system to calculate the scientific research scores of each department, and then the cluster analysis method was applied to evaluate the index system.Results:Before and after the optimization of the scientific research performance evaluation index system of departments, the conformity with the discipline classification was 76.00% and 96.67% respectively ( P=0.039). In total of 30 departments were clustered into 4 categories: excellent (7), good (7), medium (4), and concerned (12). The average score of the total scientific research performance evaluation indicators of the 4 categories of departments was 15.022. The highest average score was for papers and monographs, and the lowest was for awards. Conclusions:This study applied the cluster analysis method to evaluate the scientific research performance evaluation index system of departments in the obstetrics and gynecology hospital and replaced quantitative indicators with quality indicators. It will optimize and improve the hospital hierarchical management methods, provide data support and classified guidance for the scientific research development of different categories of departments, and provide a reference basis for hospitals to formulate scientific research management policies such as achievement transformation, award, industry standard guidelines, etc.

Abstract Introduction: Nasal septum deviation is the leading cause of upper airway obstruction. Chronic upper airway obstruction may cause myocardial injury due to chronic hypoxia. Effects of septoplasty on left venticular diastolic and sistolic functions are not well known. The myocardial performance index is an easy-to-apply and reliable parameter that reflects systolic and diastolic cardiac functions. Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of nasal septoplasty on the myocardial performance index in patients with nasal septal deviation. Methods: This prospective study consisted of 50 consecutive patients who underwent septoplasty due to symptomatic prominent C- or S-shaped nasal septal deviation. Transthoracic echocardiogarphy was performed in all patients before and 3 months after septoplasty. Calculated myocardial performance indices were compared. Results: Significantly higher left ventricular myocardial performance index (0.52 ± 0.06 vs. 0.41 ± 0.04, p < 0.001), longer isovolumic relaxation time (95.0 ± 12.5 vs. 78.0 ± 8.6 ms, p < 0.001), longer isovolumic contraction time (45.5 ± 7.8 vs. 39.5 ± 8.6 ms, p < 0.001), longer deceleration time (184.3 ± 32.5 vs. 163.6 ± 45.4 ms, p = 0.004), higher ratio of transmitral early to late peak velocities (E/A) (1.42 ± 0.4 vs. 1.16 ± 0.2, p = 0.006) and shorter ejection time (270.1 ± 18.3 vs. 286.5 ± 25.8 ms, p < 0.001) were observed before septoplasty when compared to values obtained 3 months after septoplasty. Left ventricular systolic ejection fraction was similar before and after septoplasty (63.8±2.8% vs. 64.6±3.2%, p =0.224). Conclusion: Septoplasty surgery not only reduces nasal blockage symptoms in nasal septal deviation patients but also may improve left ventricular performance. Thus, treatment of nasal septal deviation without delay is suggested to prevent possible future cardiovascular events.


Resumo Introdução: O desvio do septo nasal é a principal causa de obstrução das vias aéreas superiores. A obstrução crônica das vias aéreas superiores pode causar lesão miocárdica devido à hipóxia crônica. Os efeitos da septoplastia nas funções diastólica e sistólica do ventrículo esquerdo não são bem conhecidos. O índice de desempenho miocárdico é um parâmetro confiável e fácil de aplicar que reflete as funções cardíacas sistólica e diastólica. Objetivo: Investigar o efeito da septoplastia nasal no índice de desempenho miocárdico em pacientes com desvio de septo nasal. Método: Este estudo prospectivo consistiu em 50 pacientes consecutivos submetidos a septoplastia devido a desvio de septo nasal significativo sintomático em S ou C. A ecocardiogarfia transtorácica foi feita em todos os pacientes antes e 3 meses após a septoplastia. Os índices de desempenho miocárdico calculados foram comparados. Resultados: Um valor de indice de desempenho miocárdico ventricular esquerdo significantemente maior (0,52 ± 0,06 vs. 0,41 ± 0,04, p < 0,001), tempo mais longo de relaxamento isovolumétrico (95,0 ± 12,5 vs. 78,0 ± 8,6 ms, p < 0,001), tempo mais longo de contração isovolumétrica (45,5 ± 7,8 vs. 39,5 ± 8,6 ms, p < 0,001), tempo de desaceleração mais longo (184,3 ± 32,5 vs. 163,6 ± 45,4 ms, p = 0,004), maior razão de pico de velocidade transmitral precoce e tardia (E / A) (1,42 ± 0,4 vs. 1,16 ± 0,2, p = 0,006) e menor tempo de ejeção (270,1 ± 18,3 vs. 286,5 ± 25,8 ms, p < 0,001) foram observados antes da septoplastia quando comparados aos valores obtidos 3 meses após a septoplastia. A fração de ejeção sistólica do ventrículo esquerdo foi semelhante antes e após a septoplastia (63,8 ± 2,8% vs. 64,6 ± 3,2%, p = 0,224). Conclusão: A cirurgia de septoplastia não apenas reduz os sintomas em pacientes com desvio de septo nasal, mas também pode melhorar o desempenho ventricular esquerdo. Assim, o tratamento precoce do desvio de septo nasal é sugerido para prevenir possíveis eventos cardiovasculares futuros.

Background: Scapular dyskinesis is prevalent in 54.5% of overhead athletes. Scapular dyskinesis is abnormal positioning of the scapula over the thorax and also abnormal motions of the scapula. Any alterations to the normal scapular position may alter the accuracy of striking and serving in basketball players. This study aims to find out the relation between the resting scapular position and the throwing accuracy of players. Results: The research suggests that there is a moderate correlation present between the resting scapular position and the throwing accuracy of the players. Conclusion: In this study, results state that the resting position of the scapula plays an important role in power generation and biomechanics of throwing in overhead athletes affecting the throwing accuracy of players.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of fetal left ventricular modified myocardial performance index in predicting adverse perinatal outcomes for intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted, including 51 women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy and 80 healthy controls. Using Doppler ultrasonography, E-wave, A-wave, isovolumetric contraction time, isovolumetric relaxation time, and ejection time were recorded and the left ventricular modified myocardial performance index was measured. RESULTS: Findings showed that the mean left ventricular modified myocardial performance index, isovolumetric contraction time, and isovolumetric relaxation time values were statistically significantly higher while the ejection time and E/A ratios were statistically significantly lower in the intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy group than the control group. In the intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy group, a statistically significant positive correlation was found between left ventricular modified myocardial performance index and adverse perinatal outcomes in the intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy group (r=0.478, p<0.001), while a statistically significant negative correlation was found between the E/A ratio and adverse perinatal outcomes (r=-0.701, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: For intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy cases, high fetal left ventricular modified myocardial performance index values were an indicator of ventricular dysfunction, and this correlated with negative perinatal outcomes.

Objective:To explore the application value of right modified myocardial work index (Mod-RMPI) in assessing fetal right ventricular function in assisted reproductive technology (ART).Methods:Sixty-four fetuses conceived by assisted reproduction (ART group) and 80 fetuses with spontaneously conceived (SC) pregnancies (control group) from November 2021 to February 2022 underwent echocardiography in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were enrolled, gestational ranges from 20 to 28 weeks. The differences of Mod-RMPI, tricuspid valve E/A ratio (TV-E/A) were compared between the ART group and the control group; The correlation between maternal age, body mass index (BMI), pregnancy, and delivery and Mod-RMPI in the ART group was analyzed by applying multiple linear regression analysis; The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to test the predictive efficacy of Mod-RMPI for adverse pregnancy outcomes.Results:①Compared with the control group, Mod-RMPI, isovolumetric relaxation time(IRT), isovolumetric contraction time(ICT) and BMI were increased in ART group with statistically significant difference, ventricular ejection time (ET) were decreased, the difference was (all P<0.05). But there were no significant differences in total spent time (TST) and TV-E/A compared with the control group ( P>0.05). ②There were no correlations between maternal age, BMI, gravidity, and times of bearing birth and Mod-RMPI ( P>0.05). ③The ROC curve analysis showed the area under the curve of Mod-RMPI for predicting adverse pregnancy outcome was 0.748, the optimal cut-off value was 0.465, the sensitivity was 0.778, and the specificity was 0.608. Conclusions:ART can affect fetal right ventricular function.Mod-RMPI has good consistency and repeatability, and has certain value in predicting adverse pregnancy outcome.

In the perspective of technical evaluation, the pre-marketing regulatory requirements of allergen detection reagents in China, America, European Union were compared, and the regulatory risks and performance requirements of this product were analyzed based on the monitoring of post-marketing adverse events, reference standards and domestic and foreign regulatory documents. In view of the "neck-stuck" problems such as the difficulty of clinical trials, the difficulty of finding comparable contrast reagents and the lack of clinical diagnostic gold standards, this paper discusses and gives regulatory suggestions, with a view to providing technical reference for product R&D, production, evaluation, approval and supervision in this field.

Objective:Data envelopment analysis (DEA) was applied to evaluate the evaluation index system of scientific research performance of hospital departments.Methods:Based on the three-level index assignment of the constructed evaluation index system of scientific research performance of hospital departments, the relevant data of departments are calculated. Scientific research projects, talent team and scientific research platform are taken as input indexes, papers, awards, patents, published monographs/papers, professional standards and guidelines, as well as achievements transformation are taken as output indexes, and departments are taken as evaluation units. Data envelopment analysis software is used to evaluate departments Results of scientific research performance evaluation, redundant input and insufficient output.Results:The average comprehensive technical efficiency of 25 departments is 0.404 8, the average pure technical efficiency is 0.837 1, and the average scale efficiency is 0.428 3. Among them, 7 departments are generally efficiency, 17 departments obtained pure technical efficiency, 7 departments obtained scale efficiency.Conclusions:The analysis results can provide a reference for the scientific research development of the department. On the basis of building a reasonable talent echelon and assure the sufficient scientific research time, the hospital further optimizes and improves the scientific research performance evaluation index system and hierarchical management method of the Department.

OBJECTIVE: To provide refe rence for improving the performance of drug supply chain and sustainable development of the pharmaceutical industry in China . METHODS :By collecting literatures and combining with the characteristics of drug supply chain ,the questionnaire was designed with Likert 5 scale. After the questionnaire was tested and modified by 10 experts,a preliminary index system framework was formed. The formal questionnaire was prepared by the questionnaire test method;37 experts were consulted by Delphi method ,the index weight was determined by AHP method ,and the index reliability was tested by statistical analysis method ;finally,a pharmaceutical enterprise was taken as an example to measure the index system. RESULTS :The positive coefficient of the first round of expert consultation was 100%,and that of the second round was 94.59%;average degree of authority of experts was 0.832 6;expert coordination coefficient of the first round was 0.218 2,and that of the second round was 0.396 5. The green supply chain performance indicator system of the pharmaceutical industry included 6 first-level indicators and 26 second-level indicators ,such as drug greenness ,green marketing ,operation process ,drug quality , drug safety and drug economy. The consistency ratio of the first-level indexes and all second-level indexes were all less than 0.1, the overall Cronbach ’s α coefficient of the index system was 0.892 1. The measured results of a pharmaceutical enterprise showed that the highest score of the pharmaceutical enterprise was the “drug quality ”index,with an absolute score of 3.962 7;the lowest score was the “drug greenness ”index,with an absolute score of 2.297 9. The green supply chain performance evaluation score was 3.167 8,which was at a medium level. CONCLUSIONS :The established index system has good reliability and validity ,and is expected to provide reference for the performance evaluation of green supply chain in China ’s pharmaceutical industry.

The aim of this research is to investigate the correlation of morphological characteristics, that is, body composition characteristics with the competitive performance of female basketball players of cadet (U16) age, in general and depending on the position played in the basketball team. The research involved female basketball players from the U16 section of the three best basketball clubs from the First Cadet League of Serbia (N = 30). This research consisted of measuring the characteristics of body composition, as a space of independent variables and the analysis of competitive activities where the dependent variable represents the level of achieved competitive performance. Based on the results of the Pearson Correlation Analysis, which was made for determining the degree of connection between the dependent variable and the independent variables, it can be seen that general level competitive performance is associated with the variables: percentage skeletal muscle mass, index of hypokinesy and protein-fat index. Viewed from the point of the position played in the team, the statistically significant relationship between the independent and the dependent variable was recorded only in the forwards position. Competitive and more successful forward players are distinguished by a small percentage of body fat mass, a higher percentage of muscle mass, a smaller hypokinesy index and a larger protein-fat index. The practical application of this research can be seen in the control system of applied training work, then selection, as well as in the creation of a model for morphological characteristics of players in the cadet (U16) age.


El objetivo del estudio fue investigar la correlación entre las características morfológicas, es especial, las características de la composición corporal y el rendimiento competitivo de jugadoras de baloncesto cadetes, en general y en cada posición en el equipo. La investigación incluyó a las jugadoras de baloncesto femenino U16 de los tres mejores clubes de Primera Liga de Cadetes de Serbia (N = 30). Esta investigación consistió en medir las características de la composición corporal, como un espacio de variables independientes, y el análisis de actividades competitivas, donde la variable dependiente representa el nivel de rendimiento competitivo alcanzado. Sobre la base de los resultados del análisis de coeficiente de correlación de Pearson, que se realizó con el propósito de determinar el grado de conexión entre la variable dependiente y las variables independientes, se pudo observar que, en general, el rendimiento competitivo está vinculado a las variables: porcentaje de masa muscular esquelética, índice de hipocinesia e índice proteínagrasa. Desde el punto de vista de posiciones dentro de un equipo de baloncesto, la relación estadísticamente importante entre la variable independiente y la variable dependiente ha sido registrada solamente en la posición de delantero. Las jugadoras delanteras más exitosas y competitivas se distinguen por un bajo porcentaje de grasa en su masa corporal, así como un mayor porcentaje de masa muscular, un índice de hipocinesia más bajo y un índice proteína-grasa más alto. El uso práctico de esta investigación se puede ver en el sistema de control del trabajo de entrenamiento aplicado, luego en la selección, así como en la creación de modelos de características morfológicas de jugadoras en la categoría cadetes (U16).

Myocardial performance index (MPI)/Tei index measures the LV systolic and LV diastolic function. Several studies have proved its reliability in evaluating the LV systolic and diastolic performance, with clear benefit over other old indices. It is also helpful in determining the prognosis of heart diseases, especially coronary artery disease. Diabetes affects the heart in several ways. The prevalence of coronary artery disease in a patient with diabetes is well known. The cardiac status in prediabetes is not studied extensively. Hence this study was undertaken to assess the myocardial function in prediabetes using MPI. We wanted to assess myocardial performance index (MPI) in prediabetes and correlate myocardial performance index with cardiovascular risk factors like waist hip ratio (WHR), fasting lipid profile (FLP) and body mass index (BMI).METHODSIn this cross sectional study 200 prediabetics were enrolled as cases and 100 age and sex matched subjects were enrolled as controls. Thorough history, physical examination, biochemical investigations like FBS, PMBS, FLP and Echocardiography for myocardial performance index were done.RESULTSBody mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio (WHR), total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) were significantly higher in prediabetes and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) were significantly lower in prediabetes in comparison to controls (p=0.0001). Out of 200 prediabetic subjects, 23 (11.5%) had abnormal MPI which was statistically significant in comparison with controls (p=0.037) There was no correlation of abnormal myocardial performance index with cardiovascular risk factors like BMI, WHR and fasting lipid profile (FLP).CONCLUSIONSPrediabetes had abnormal MPI in comparison to controls. However, no correlation was found between cardiovascular risk factors and MPI.

Dissolving pulp consists of high purity cellulose and is widely used to as raw materials for the production of regenerated cellulose fiber, cellulose ester and cellulose ether. The characteristic of dissolving pulp affects greatly the production and processing performance of subsequent products. The α-cellulose content, hemicellulose content, pulp viscosity, ash, transition metal ion content, fiber morphology, molecular weight distribution of cellulose and the reactivity are the important properties. Because of its green, mild and high efficiency, the application of enzymes in improving the properties of dissolving pulp has a promising application prospect and has been researched significantly. In this review, the main properties of dissolving pulp are presented first, followed by a recommendation of the enzymes to improve these properties. The application and current research of cellulase and xylanase in improving the properties of dissolving pulp are emphasized. The main problems and the future research areas in improving the properties of dissolving pulp by enzymes are revealed. Finally, the technology prospects in this field are proposed.

Animal model development of alcohol administration in rats is of crucial importance as it gives indirect information to effects of alcohol in humans. An indirect assessment of this would be the biochemical and histological data that could arise from such experiments. 20 Male Wistar rats weighing (63.50±3.79 g), were divided into four groups (consisting 15 treated animals and 5 control animals) and administered with varying concentrations of ethanol (5% 15% and 40%) via intragastric intubation for a period of 28 days. Probic evaluations, liver biochemical enzymes and alteration in histology profile of gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and viscera organs (namely the liver, kidney, heart and lungs) were determined after experimental duration. At 40% ethanol administration, the rats showed biochemically significant decrease in serum gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), serum aspartate (AST) and Alanine amino transferase (ALT) when compared to normal study while 5% and 15% ethanol administered rats were comparable with control values i.e. normal study. Probic evaluations such as body weight, water intake and food intake showed percentage decrease in 40% ethanol administrated rat when compared with controls. The photomicrographs of the 5% and 15% ethanol administered rats indicated mild damage in their histological profiles when compared to the normal study while there was more adverse damage occurring in the 40% ethanol administrated rats. Conclusion: From this study, serum aspartate (AST), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) and Alanine amino transferase (ALT), probic evaluation (body weight, food intake and water intake) coupled with histopathological investigation may be used as biomarker for the early diagnosis of ethanol toxicity in human beings.

ABSTRACT Objective: Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) is a phosphorus-regulating hormone and plays a role in the pathogenesis of myocardial hypertrophy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of FGF-23 levels with echocardiographic parameters and insulin resistance (IR) in patients with gestational diabetes. Subjects and methods: Fifty-four pregnant patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (age, 31.12 ± 5.72 years) and 33 healthy pregnant women (age, 29.51 ± 4.92 years) were involved in the study. Fasting insulin, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), lipid profile, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), FGF23, echocardiographic parameters, and carotid artery intima-media thickness (CIMT) were evaluated in the two groups. Results: The two groups were not significantly different in age, sex, body mass index, lipid profile, or blood pressure. Insulin, homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), FGF-23 levels, CIMT, left ventricular (LV) mass, LV mass index and myocardial performance index (MPI) were significantly higher in the GDM group. HOMA-IR was positively correlated with FGF-23, and insulin was positively correlated with FGF-23. Additionally, FGF-23 was positively correlated with CIMT, LV mass index, and MPI. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that monitoring serum FGF-23 may be useful as a non-invasive indicator of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with GDM.

RESUMO A ausência de planejamento e da integração entre as entidades responsáveis pelo gerenciamento da infraestrutura urbana associada à ocupação inadequada do espaço da cidade ocasiona sobrecargas em determinados trechos da rede pluvial. O presente trabalho tem o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho hidráulico do sistema de drenagem de águas pluviais urbanas do Campus Universitário "Professor Zeferino Vaz", de tal forma que sejam identificados quais trechos apresentam sobrecarga e eventualmente inundações locais. Normalmente, em áreas urbanas, os dados hidrológicos disponíveis restringem-se aos dados pluviométricos. Dessa forma, são necessários métodos de transformação de chuva-vazão para o cálculo das vazões afluentes à rede de drenagem. Após a determinação das vazões afluentes, foram avaliadas as condições hidráulicas de operação em regime permanente variado. Por meio de índices de desempenho hidráulico reportados na literatura, foram avaliados graus de sobrecarga em cada trecho da rede de drenagem urbana. Além disso, a elaboração da matriz da contribuição hidráulica da rede de drenagem possibilitou identificar as causas das sobrecargas em cada trecho. As avaliações das redes do campus realizadas com período de retorno de 5 anos mostraram que o campus possui pelo menos 12 pontos de alagamento. Nesse sentido, o índice de desempenho hidráulico e a matriz de contribuições poderão constituir um importante instrumento também para uma eventual reabilitação dessas redes.


ABSTRACT The lack of effective planning and integration between the urban infrastructure administrations associated with the widespread soil development provokes surcharge over the storm sewer pipe network. This work aimed to assess the hydraulic performance of an urban stormwater sewer pipe network located at the main campus of the State University of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, in such a manner that it is possible to identify those surcharged reaches and eventually local floods. Since flow rates are not available in urban watersheds, the overland flow was estimated by rainfall-runoff transformation methods. Next, the steady state hydraulic analysis was used to estimate the hydraulic heads in the pipe network. Hydraulic performance index, the ratio of overcharge in each pipe network segment and the hydraulic contribution matrix showed what segments cause each manhole surge. The results for the five-years return period rainfall show that there are at least 12 manhole surge locations in the area, which are vulnerable to local floods. In this sense, the hydraulic performance index and the contribution matrix may be important instruments also for an eventual rehabilitation work to the stormwater sewer pipe network in this area.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) that causes upper airway obstruction might lead to chronic hypoxemic pulmonary vasoconstriction and right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. We aimed to evaluate whether adenotonsillectomy (T&A) in children suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) due to severe ATH could improve RV function. METHODS: Thirty-seven children (boy:girl=21:16; mean age, 9.52±2.20 years), who underwent T&A forsleep apnea due to ATH, were included. We analyzedthe mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP), the presence and the maximal velocity of tricuspid regurgitation (TR), the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), and the right ventricular myocardial performance index (RVMPI) with tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE) by transthoracic echocardiography pre- and post-T&A. The follow-up period was 1.78±0.27 years. RESULTS: Only the RVMPI using TDE improved after T&A (42.18±2.03 vs. 40±1.86, P=0.001). The absolute value of TAPSE increased (21.45±0.90 mm vs. 22.30±1.10 mm, P=0.001) but there was no change in the z score of TAPSE pre- and post-T&A (1.19±0.34 vs. 1.24±0.30, P=0.194). The mPAP was within normal range in children with ATH, and there was no significant difference between pre- and post-T&A (19.6±3.40 vs. 18.7±2.68, P=0.052). There was no difference in the presence and the maximal velocity of TR (P=0.058). CONCLUSION: RVMPI using TDE could be an early parameter of RV function in children with OSA due to ATH.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the present study is to emphasize the efficacy of the myocardial performance index and tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) in the determination of impaired cardiac functions and recovery period following the treatment in children with adenoid and/or tonsillar hypertrophy. METHODS: Fifty-three healthy children after routine laboratory, imaging and clinical examinations, with adenoid and/or tonsillar hypertrophy were evaluated before and 3 months after adenotonsillectomy for cardiac functions using M mode and Doppler echocardiography. RESULTS: The mean age of cases was 6.4±3.0 years, 34 (65%) were male, and 19 (35%) were female. Pulmonary hypertension was observed to be mild in 3 patients and moderate in 1 patient preoperatively. When the preoperative and postoperative echocardiographic measurements of the patients were compared, the tricuspid valve E wave velocity, the E/A ratio (E, early diastolic flow rate; A, late diastolic flow rate), and the TAPSE values were determined to be significantly higher postoperatively (P<0.05). The tricuspid valve deceleration time, the isovolumetric relaxation time and the systolic pulmonary artery pressure were found to be significantly lower compared to the preoperative values (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Adenoidectomy and/or tonsillectomy may prevent cardiac dysfunctions that can develop in the later periods due to adenoid and/or tonsil hypertrophy in children, before the appearance of the clinical findings of cardiac failure.

Extracting characteristics and information from Auditory Evoked Potentials recordings (AEPs) involves difficulties due to their very low amplitude, which makes the AEPs easily hidden by artifacts from physiological or external sources like the EEG/EMG, blinking, and line-noise. To tackle this problem, some authors have used Independent Component Analysis (ICA) to successfully de-noise brain signals. However, since interest has been mainly focused on removing artifacts like blinking, not much attention has been paid to the quality of the recovered evoked potential. This is the AEP case, where literature reports interesting results on the de-noising matter, but without an objective evaluation of the AEP finally extracted (and the influence of different implementations or configurations of ICA). Here, to study the performance of three popular ICA algorithms (FastICA, Ext-Infomax, and SOBI) at separating AEPs from a mixture, a synthetic dataset composed of one Long Latency Auditory Evoked Potential (LLAEP) signal and the most frequent artifacts was generated. Next, the quality of the independent components (ICs) estimated by such algorithms was measured by using the AMARI performance index (Am), the signal interference ratio index (SIR), and the time required to achieve separation. Results indicated that the FastICA implementation, with the symmetric approach and the power cubic contrast function, is more likely to provide the best and faster separation of the LLAEP, which makes it suitable for this purpose.


La extracción de características e información de los registros de Potenciales Evocados Auditivos (AEPs) es complicada debido a su baja energía, la que lo hace fácilmente enmascarable por artefactos de origen fisiológico o externo, como el EEG/EMG, el parpadeo y el ruido de línea. Este problema ha sido abordado por algunos autores mediante el uso del Análisis por Componentes Independientes (ICA, por sus siglas en inglés), que se ha utilizado principalmente para reducir artefactos. Estos trabajos han enfocado su interés en la tarea de remover artefactos como el parpadeo, por lo que han descuidado el estudio de la calidad del potencial evocado recuperado. Este es el caso del AEP, donde aun cuando la literatura reporta resultados interesantes en la reducción de artefactos, no existe una evaluación objetiva del AEP finalmente extraído (y el efecto de usar diferentes implementaciones/configuraciones de ICA). En este trabajo, con el objetivo de cuantificar el desempeño de tres algoritmos de ICA (FastICA, Ext-Infomax, y SOBI) en la calidad de la separación de los AEPs, se generó una mezcla sintética de señales compuesta por un Potencial Evocado Auditivos de Latencia Larga (LLAEP) y artefactos frecuentemente presentes en estos registros. Después, se cuantificó la calidad de los componentes independientes (ICs, por sus siglas en inglés) estimados por estos algoritmos utilizando el índice de desempeño (AMARI, por sus siglas en inglés) el índice de la relación de interferencia entre señales (SIR, por sus siglas en inglés) y el tiempo requerido para realizar la separación. Los resultados indican que FastICA, con el enfoque simétrico y la función de contraste potencia cúbica, proporciona la mejor y más rápida separación del LLAEP, lo que lo vuelve idóneo para esta tarea.

Objetivando avaliar a atividade logística nas empresas do setor laticinista atuantes nas regiões Zona da Mata e Campo das Vertentes no estado de Minas Gerais, foram promovidas pesquisas com 40 indústrias que representam o setor avaliado. Os questionários respondidos pela gerência das empresas continha variáveis que possibilitaram caracterizar as empresas quanto à sua produção, logística de captação e distribuição, gestão interna, além de mercado e comercialização. O uso da análise estatística multivariada fatorial foi de grande relevância ao possibilitar a construção de um índice que representou o desempenho logístico de cada uma das empresas, sendo também utilizada para realizar o agrupamento dessas indústrias em 4 grupos que continham características similares. O índice logístico (IL) mostrou que as empresas estudadas da região precisam melhorar as atividades que constituíram sua medida, a fim de tornar os aspectos logísticos um meio de vantagem competitiva. Além disso, os grupos formados também possibilitaram avaliar que não é suficiente atuar na melhoria de apenas uma parte das atividades logísticas, mas sim no conjunto de variáveis que pode influenciar positivamente no resultado final no quesito competitividade e liderança logística.


In order to evaluate the logistics activity in the dairy companies operating in Zona da Mata and Campo das Vertentes in Minas Gerais, Brazil a research has been promoted on 40 industries that represent the sector assessed. The questionnaire answered by company employees, contained variables that allowed obtaining information about company identification, gathering and distribution logistics, internal management, marketing and commercialization. Factorial statistical analysis was very important to enable the construction of an index representing the logistics performance of each company and was also used to perform the grouping of these industries into 4 groups containing similar characteristics. The index logistics (IL) showed that companies in the study area still need to improve their activities which were measured to make the logistics a competitive advantage. Moreover, the groups formed also allowed to evaluate that is not enough the improvement at only a part of logistics activities, but is necessary to improve the set of variables that can positively influence the final result in the logistics competitiveness and leadership.

METHODS: In 62 hypertensive-hypertrophic patients without LV systolic dysfunction, LV volumes, myocardial mass index, ejection fraction% (EF%) and LAVI were measured by two-dimensional echocardiography. Instead, tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE) was used to measure myocardial performance index (MPI) and its systo-diastolic time intervals, such as: iso-volumetric contraction time (IVCT); iso-volumetric relaxation time (IVRT); ejection time. LAVI, TDE-MPI and time intervals where also measured in 15 healthy controls, to obtain the reference values. RESULTS: Results shown a significant increase of LV volumes in hypertensives in comparison to the control group (p < 0.05). LV mass index also augmented (p < 0.001). Instead, EF% not significantly changed in hypertrophic patients in comparison with healthy controls. LAVI raised in hypertensives wih left ventricular hypertrophy, whereas IVCT resulted within the normal limits. On the contrary, IVRT significantly raised. Accordingly, MPI resulted higher in controls. CONCLUSION: LAVI, MPI and its time intervals appear as reliable tools to non-invasively individualize LV diastolic dysfunction in systemic hypertension, in absence of mitral valve disease.
