RESUMEN
Sucralose is a non-nutritive sweetener used in a broad range of foods and beverages. The aim of the study was to demonstrate any histomorphometric changes in liver after sucralose ingestion. Adose of 3g/kg/day of sucralose dissolved in distilled water were given for 30 days to experimental rats by oral gavage whereas Control rats received equal quantity of distilled water. Liver Pieces each having thickness 5mm were taken for paraffin sectioning. 80 slides of 5 micron thick tissue sections were made from each liver and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H & E) which were subsequently evaluated for histomorphometric changes. No significant change in the size of hepatocytes and size of nuclei of hepatocytes were observed between slides of control and sucralose treated rat livers. Sinusoidal width was found to be significantly increased in experimental rat livers as compared to control which is indicative of hepatic damage. A food additive so commonly used as sucralose deserves further investigations.

@#This study aimed to review the availability of sugar-free medicine available in the market using the online Monthly Index of Medical Specialties (MIMS) Malaysia 2016. Data collection was obtained from product information (PI) for prescription medications contained in the MIMS Malaysia 2016. Concise information for each product was collected based on therapeutic class groupings. The therapeutic class obtained from PI was assigned to one of the 11 major therapeutic classes. PI that stated its use in paediatrics was further reviewed for the availability of sugar free ingredient. Each product was then allocated into the poison groups: Group B, Group C and Non-Scheduled Poison. A total of 282 PI items from 336 companies in MIMS Malaysia 2016 that satisfied our eligibility criteria were reviewed. Of the 282 PI items reviewed, most of the products, 169 (59.9%) were sugarbased product, while 87 (30.9%) of them belong to sugar free products. Our study found that most of the medicines reviewed in the MIMS Malaysia 2016 were under Group C (134 of total 282). There is still a high number of sugar-containing medicines despite the promotion of sugar-free medication. Therefore, consumers need to be educated on the use of sugar-free medicines in children to increase the demand and availability in the market.

AIM To investigate the pharmacokinetic behaviors of four constituents in sugar-free Xinnaosu Granules in rat plasma.METHODS Rats intragastrically administered with the 0.5% CMC-Na suspension of this drug (3 g/kg) had their blood collected for the determination of plasma concentration by UHPLC-MS/MS,after which pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated by DAS2.0 software.RESULTS The plasma concentrationtime curves for tanshinone Ⅱ A,salvianolic acid B,ginsenoside Rg1,notoginsenoside R1 accorded with two compartment model, with the t1/2values of (1.68 ±0.56),(4.13 ±0.87),(3.62 ±0.87),(9.77 ±3.12) h,Tmax values of (0.51 ±0.19),(1 ±0),(6 ±0),(4.00 ±1.09) h,Cmax values of (0.42 ±0.08),(0.17 ±0.02),(0.46±0.11),(0.41 ±0.12) mg/L,respectively.CONCLUSION All the four constituents in sugar-free Xinnaosu Granules demonstrate high bioavailabilities.

Aim: To evaluate and compare the effect of four different sugar free chewing-gums on salivary pH at 0, 10, 20, 30 minutes. Study Design: Double blinded, parallel arm Randomized Clinical Trial. Place and Duration of the Study: Department of Public Health Dentistry, College Of Dental Sciences, Davangere, India. Jan-Feb 2015. Methodology: Forty healthy dental students, aged 21 -25 years, mean age- 20.3 years were randomly allocated into 4 different study groups: Licorice group, Ginger group, Cinnamon group, and Xylitol group. Unstimulated saliva was collected from the participants at baseline, following which the participants were given respective gums to chew and the subsequent salivary samples were collected at intervals of 10, 20 & 30 minutes and pH was analyzed using pH meter. Statistical analysis was done using repeated measures ANOVA and One way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post-hoc test. Results: Intergroup comparison showed, statistically significant difference between the groups at ten minutes (P=0.025), twenty minutes (P=0.004) and thirty minutes (P=0.001). At the end of thirty minutes, Ginger group showed maximum increase in salivary pH followed by Xylitol. When intragroup analysis was done, there was statistically significant difference in Licorice (P=0.033), Cinnamon (P=0.034) and Xylitol group (P=0.041) at different time intervals. Conclusion: The above results showed that, Ginger flavoured gum followed by Xylitol gum significantly increases salivary pH, as a means of caries prevention; it can be a good way to promote dental health. Hence, it can be suggested that the ginger flavoured gums can be advised in the subjects who are more susceptible to salivary pH fall and dental caries.

Objective:To set up a method for simultaneously determining the content of notoginsenoside R1 , ginsenoside Rg1 and ginsenoside Rb1 in compound Huanggen granules ( sugar free) . Methods:The HPLC method was carried out on an Agilent ZORBAX SB-C18(250 mm ×4.6 mm,5 μm)column. The mobile phase was acetonitrile-water with gradient elution. The flow rate was 1.0 ml· min-1 . The detection wavelength was at 203 nm. The column temperature was set at 25℃ and the sample size was 10 μl. Results:The linearity of notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1 and ginsenoside Rb1 was within the range of 1. 6-10. 0 μg·ml-1(r=0. 999 6), 6. 3-39. 3 μg·ml-1(r=0. 999 8) and 6. 3-39. 7 μg·ml-1(r=0. 999 7), respectively. The average recovery was 98. 81%(RSD=1. 20%),99. 93%(RSD=0. 93%) and 99. 22%(RSD=0. 87%)(n=6) , respectively. Conclusion: The method is simple, repro-ducible and specific, which can be used in the quality control of the preparation.

OBJECTIVE:To establish the quality standard of Yanyan granules of concentrated sugar-free type. METHODS:Scrophularia ningpoensis,Menispermum dauricum,Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae in the granules were identified by TLC,and the content of linarin in Yanyan granules were determined by HPLC.RESULTS:The TLC spots were clear with high resolution. The linear range of linarin was 4.64~69.6 ?g(r=0.999 9) and the average recovery rate was 98.65%(RSD= 0.79%,n=6). CONCLUSION:The established standard is suitable for the quality control of the Yanyan granules of concentrated sugar-free type.
