RESUMEN

22 patients with proved urogenital malignancies was done to determine the value of bone scanning versus roentgenographic skeletal survey in assessing the degree of metastatic involvement with serum phosphatase level. Findings on bone scans were positive in 11 patients and in 6 patients of these patients results of radiologic of radiologic skeletal survey were negative. Of these 11 patients with positive scanning, 3 patients showed elevation of serum acid phosphatase and 4 other patients showed elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase. And of the others with negative scanning, 1 patient showed elevation of acid phosphatase and elevation of alkaline phosphatase in 3 other patients.

RESUMEN

The effect of prophylactic postoperative radiotherapy on peripheral lymphocyte count was determined for 20 cases of urogenital malignant tumors (bladder cancer-13 cases, prostatic cancer-4 cases, renal cancer-3 cases). The results were obtained as follows, l) Radiotherapy decreased the white blood cell count by a mean percentage of 16.7% (14.0% for bladder cancer, 16.4% for prostatic cancer. 36.8% for renal cancer, respectively) during the period of first month, but did not alter the granulocyte count. 2) Radiotherapy brought about high degree of decrease of peripheral lymphocyte count by a mean percentage of 47.9% (47. 3% for bladder cancer. 50.0% for prostatic cancer. 32.3% for renal cancer, respectively). 3) The recovery of the radiation-induced lymphocyte deficiency to pre-irradiation level was observed in 1-2 years after completion of radiation therapy (2 years for bladder cancer. 1 1/2 years for prostatic cancer. 1 year for renal cancer. respectively).

RESUMEN

Seventy five cases of urogenital malignant tumors were reviewed in regard to the survival, therapy and peripheral lymphocyte counts. Cellular immunity was also investigated in 15 cases of them by assessing their cutaneous delayed hypersensitivity responses to dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB), compared with controls. I. The incidence of lymphopenia in the urogenital malignant tumors (20. 6%) was higher than that in the control group(10.0%). Most cases with lymphopenia showed poor survival, and data suggested that peripheral lymphocyte count was a useful parameter to estimate the prognosis of the urogenital malignant tumors. 2. Surgical treatments caused a temporal decrease of circulating lymphocyte counts by 27.6% which recovered to normal value within 4 weeks, and high dosage radiation therapy brought about persistent and higher degree of decrease of peripheral lymphocyte by 47.9% which persisted for up 1-2 years. 3. Cancer patients had a lower incidence of positive reaction (73.3% vs. 93.4% in controls) in investigation of cellular immune responses using quantitative DNCB contact sensitization. There may be a significant relationship between tumor stage and reactivity to DNCB in bladder cancers.
