RESUMEN

Camelpox virus in skin lesion scrapings; collected from camels severely affected with clinical signs of camelpox; suspecion was detected by Indirect Fluorescent Antibody [IFA] test using standard anti Jouf-78 strain camelpox virus rabbit antiserum. The causative agent was isolated and purified throughout five successive passages on vero cell cultures using the highest positive dilutions. The virus isolate showed identical Cytopathogenic Effects [CPE] in inoculated vero cell cultures between the 1[st] and 5[th] passages. The isolate was standardized as a virulent camelpox virus by application of IFA, virus neutralization and pathogenicity tests, and designated as Saudi Arabia, Uniza 2004 strain

RESUMEN

Twenty-four samples of raw camel's milk were collected from she camels, in part of the north western coastal desert. The collected samples were analyzed for detection of aflatoxin M1. Aflatoxin M1 was detected in 25% of camel's milk samples, with a mean value of 0.55 mug/L [0.3-0.85]. The public health importance of aflatoxin M1 and the control measures to safeguard the consumers from exposure to aflatoxins were discussed

RESUMEN

Fifty liver samples [25 of each of camel and buffalo livers] were obtained from several butcher's shops, and subjected to microbiological analysis. The mean values of APC, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis and Coliform counts were 9 x 10 7, 4 x 10 7, 5 x 10 3, 4 x 10 3, 4 x 10 4, 5 x 10 3 and 2 x 10 3 in camel and buffalo livers, respectively. E. coli, Klebsiella aerogenes, Proteus species and Citrobacter freundii could be isolated in various percentages. Moreover, Clostridium sphenoides, Cl. histolyticum, Cl. tertium and Cl. putrefaciens were the most predominant anaerobes in both liver samples. The significant importance of the counts and the isolated organisms were discussed
