RESUMEN

Abstract: Myiasis refers to Diptera larvae infesting vertebrate animals. There are two forms of the disease: primary and secondary. In primary myiasis, fly larvae invade and develop in healthy tissue; in secondary myiasis, flies lay their eggs in skin ulcerations, and the larvae develop in tissue necrosis products. Furuncular myiasis is a type of primary myiasis. Treatment for it consists of techniques such as the production of localized hypoxia to force the emergence of the larvae, and mechanical or surgical removal of the maggots. These techniques, however, are painful and often unsuccessful. We propose a new technique for extraction of myiasis larvae, which might facilitate the surgical procedure and constitute a virtually painless and aesthetic option for the patient.

RESUMEN

Hydatidosis usually is seen in lung and liver in human. Involvement of the breast by hydatic cyst is rare. A 26 years old woman referred to our clinic due to a palpable mass in her right breast. In ultrasonography a cystic lesion was seen. In mammography an opaque well defined lesion with a thin calcified margin was seen in her right inferomedial maxillary zone with 3 and 4 cm diameters without breast tissue destruction or microcalcification. Diagnosis of hydatic cyst was suggested and confined by pathology. Hydatic disease of the breast is rare. However, it might constitute a potentially serious differential diagnosis of a breast lump in areas endemic for this disease

RESUMEN

Contrary to the popular perception, hydatosis does not remain restricted to certain geographical locales but is a global health concern, particularly in the rural countryside. Although liver and lung involvement account for the majority of the lesions, primary breast, bone, kidney and soft tissue hydatosis with features of cystic echinococcosis are extremely rare. We report four such rare cases of cystic echinococcosis which were diagnosed and treated in our institute.

RESUMEN

A case of breast sparganosis was confirmed by surgical excision of a worm (fragmented into 5 pieces) in a 59-year-old Korean woman suffering from a palpable mass in the left breast. Mammography and ultrasonography characteristically revealed the presence of several well-defined, isodense and hypoechoic tubular masses, in the upper quadrant of the left breast, each mass consisting of a continuous cord- or worm-like structure. During surgery, a long segment of an actively moving sparganum of Spirometra sp. and 4 small fragments of the same worm, giving a total length of 20.3 cm, were extracted from the upper outer quadrant of the left breast and the axillary region. The infection source remains unclear, because the patient denied ingesting any snake or frog meat or drinking untreated water.

RESUMEN

In this case report we highlight the difficulty in clinical diagnosis of hydatid disease at unusual sites. In 12 years 4 months period six cases of hydatid cyst found at unusual sites. This included two cases involving breast [one male and other female], and one each involving spleen, omentum, neck and thigh muscles. All were removed at surgery without any difficulty

RESUMEN

A 32 years old lady lactating for 9 months presented with lump in breast for 6 months.Mammography was the only investigation which patient had with her and was not willing for further investigations. Clinical and mammographic assessment was suggestive of cystic lesion of breast probably galactococle. Lumpectomy was done and biopsy report suggested hydatid cyst

RESUMEN

Hydatid disease is caused by the tapeworm ecchinococcus. The larval stage of which can thrive in many parts of the body, most frequently in the liver. Primary breast location is very rare. We report two cases, the first was in 23 years old woman presented with right painless mammary mass of two years duration, second case in 30 years old woman presented with left breast mass. The pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a hydatid disease in two cases. Clinical and mammographic evaluations of both patients after seven years were uneventful

RESUMEN

The authors report a case of an internal hydatid cyst of the breast diagnosed in a 65 year old woman. The patient, presented with a nodule in the inferior and internal quadrant of the right breast, 3 cm of diameter, soft in consistency, well demareated, mobile and painless, without inflammatory phenomenon. Mammography showed a dense opacity, homogeneous, net contours, with arciform calcifications. A benign tumor was suspected, and it is the histological study that has straightened the diagnosis. The hydatid cyst of the breast is exceptional. The stay in endemic zone, clinical and radiological characters evoke the diagnosis which will be confirmed by histologic examination

RESUMEN

An unusual presentation of filariasis as a breast lump simulating breast carcinoma, in a 50 year old woman residing in Pokhara, Nepal. The case was reported on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and also evaluated by histopathology. Morphology of the nematode is that of Brugia species which is unusual in Nepal.

RESUMEN

We report the case of a 63 years old woman with a left mammary hidatd cyst. The patient presented with a left painless mammary mass of four months evolution. Mammography showed a dense image of 9 cm in the left breast. Ultrasound showed a solid and heterogenous lesion. The tumor was excised under general anesthesia. The initial macroscopic inspection showed a tumor with a well defined fibrous capsule filled with a grayish material that contained membrane debris. The pathological study confirmed the diagnosis of a hydatid cyst
