RESUMEN

Osteoid osteoma is a benign tumor, which is mostly seen in the long bones but occasionally originates and grows inside the paranasal sinuses. It rarely may impinge the dura with growing upward inside the ethmoid sinus. As a result, it can cause dural rupture, CSF leak and tension pneumocephalus. This needs complete resection with dural repair as an effective treatment. In this case report, a 72 year old man with osteoid osteoma is reported who had been referred with headache, rhinorrhea, memory loss, mood disorder and mutism. Pneumo-encephalus due to injury of dura of the skull base by a left ethmoid sinus osteoma was later found by CT scan. This tumor was completely resected and dura repaired by a surgical team including neurosurgeon and otorhinolaryngologist. The signs and symptoms were disappeared during the next few days

RESUMEN

Three cases of osteoid osteoma of the hip, two involving the femoral neck and one involving the posterior wall of the acetabulum were successfully excised with a modified core decompression technique. The procedure is superior to the standard methods of excising lesions from the region of the hip. Histopathological confirmation of the excised lesions was obtained. All patients were symptom free three months post operatively. This method of excision may provide a safe and successful alternate that minimizes the potential risks of conventional methods of excision

RESUMEN

Giant cell tumours (GCT) are rare in the skull bones. In the cranium the sphenoid bone is the most common site. The petrous bone is a very uncommon location for such tumours. The chance location of GCT at the base of the skull makes total surgery difficult and hazardous. A case of GCT of the petrous bone is presented. The clinical course in the patient and role of primary radiotherapy in GCT in such an unusual site is discussed.

RESUMEN

In a review of all tumours and tumour like lesions of the craniofacial bones between the years 1963 and 1980, 19 cases were diagnosed as fibro osseous lesions. The mean age of occurrence was 23.8 years with a slight male predominance (1.6:1). The clinical and histological aspects of the various lesions, the problems in diagnosis and the impact of diagnosis on clinical behaviour are discussed.
