effect of modified Lytic cocktail mixture on hyperpyrexia

This study was done on thirty adult febrile patients with different age. weight and sex and with different infectious aetiologies to evaluate the effect of [modified lytic cocktail mixture] a combination of promazine, pethidine and hydergine to assess their role on hyperpyrexia The results showed that the lytic cooctkail have significant effect on hyperpyrexia and that the combination of promazine, pethidine and hydergine was very excellent in lowering body temperature in this type of fever in short time [8 +/- 1.5 hours] and may be useful when urgent need to decrease body temperature is desired. They also decreased the PCO2, with no effect on haemodynamics and significant improvement in state of body oxygenation

Spectrophotometric investigation of meto-clopramide and promazine palladium II complexes

The color reaction of metoclopramide or promazine and palladium [II] chloride has been investigated. The optimum reaction conditions, spectral characteristics, conditional stability constants and composition of the water-soluble complexes have been established. The structure of palladium [II] chelates in the solid state is also studied. A spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of metoclopramide and promazine hydrochlorides in pure forms and in pharmaceutical preparations. The method is simple, reproducible and accurate and is easily applied to the determination in tables and injection solutions

Spectrophotometric determination of imipramine and promazine through ion-pair formation with molybdenum [V] and thio-cyanate

A new procedure for determining imipramine and promazine by forming ion-pairs with molybdenum [V]-thiocyanate complex is studied. The method consists of extracting the ion-pair formed into dichloromethane from hydrochlorid acid medium which is orange-red in color. The ion- pair has an absorption maximum at 472 nm with molar absorptivities of 1.27 x 104 and 1.64 x 104 M mole-1 cm-1 for imipramine and promazine hydrochlorides, respectively. The ion-pair is stable for over one week at room temperature [25C]. Bent and French's method indicated 1: 4: 2 composition for molybdenum [V]-thiocyanate- imipramine or promazine ion-pair. The method obeys Beer's law in the concentration range 1.0-30.0 mug ml-1 of imipramine hydrochloride and 0.8-24.0 mug ml-1 of promazine hydrochloride. The proposed method can be applied to the determination of imipramine and promazine hydrochlorides in pharmaceutical preparations

Effect of pain relief on the course of labour and fetal outcome

This study was carried on 120 parturient women using different regimens of analgesics and/or psycholeptics to allay their anxiety and to relief labour pains without a harmful effect on both mother and foetus. Determination of the effect of different analgesic on pain score, duration of labour, fetal apgar score and FHR tracing showed improvement of pain score, shortening of the duration of labour with good fetal outcome. In conclusion selection of a proper analgesic should be tailored to the specific needs of the parturient women and offering to her a tolerable safe labour without a harmful effect on her child
