RESUMEN

Dermoid cyst (DC) is a cystic lesion of developmental origin and uncertain etiology that rarely affects the floor of the mouth. We report a case of a large lesion found in the submental and submandibular region in a 25-year-old male patient. Computed tomography revealed extensive hypodense lesion in the submental and submandibular space without peripheral enhancement. The microscopical analysis showed a cystic cavity lined by orthokeratinized stratified squamous epithelium. The cystic capsule was composed of dense fibrous connective tissue containing cutaneous attachments, such as sebaceous and sweat glands. The diagnosis of DC was made. The differential diagnosis of expansive sublingual lesions can be clinically challenging due to the similarity with several lesions frequently observed in this region. Herein, we describe a case of extensive DC arising in the floor of the mouth, presenting clinical, imaging, and microscopical features.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT CONTEXT: Dermoid cysts are well-defined cysts containing sebaceous glands and dermal structures. In the literature, dermoid cysts and associated closure defects have been described in the same locations. CASE REPORT: In this case, a dermoid cyst was found at the base of the mouth with a coexisting closure defect in the occipital calvarium. Additional abnormalities were also observed, including posterior myeloschisis, right cerebellar dysgenesis, vermian hypogenesis and posterior fusion of the second and third vertebrae. The finding of a dermoid cyst located at the base of the mouth is discussed here, with additional imaging findings. CONCLUSION: Dermoid cysts in the head and neck region may be accompanied by posterior fossa abnormalities.

RESUMEN

Nasal dermoid sinus cyst [NDSC] is an uncommon congenital lesion presenting as a large panel of midline craniofacial anomalies. These congenital disorders often extend to intracranial and can lead to serious complications. The aim of this study was to assessment of frequency, sign, symptoms, treatment and outcome of nasal dermoid sinus cyst. In this study, an 8 years old female with nasal dermoid sinus cyst and nasal tip sinus opening [4 years previous history] was evaluated

RESUMEN

A 40-year-old female presented with pain and enlargement of abdomen since last 6 months. A mass was felt over right iliac fossa. Ultrasonography showed partly cystic and solid area in mass arising from ovary. A tooth-like structure was also seen. Dermoid cyst was the diagnosis offered. Laparotomy was performed. Ovarian mass with hair, a tooth and putty-like material was present. Solid white area with thickened wall was found. Histopathology confirmed the findings of dermoid cyst and the thickened area showed squamous cell carcinoma with areas showing keratinous material and giant cell reaction which was also seen at the periphery of tumor areas. Left ovary was normal and no deposits of tumor were seen. Postoperative period was uneventful.

RESUMEN

Dermoid sinuses and meningoceles are seldom encountered in the cervical region. Besides, to the best of our knowledge, the coexistence of these types of congenital abnormalities with recurrent meningitis, as well as with mirror movement, has never been reported before. A 14-year-old female with the diagnosis of recurrent meningitis was referred to our clinic from the Department of Infectious Diseases. She had a cervical meningocele mass that was leaking cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) and an associated mirror movement symptom. Spina bifida, dermoid sinus and meningocele lesions were demonstrated at the C2 level on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She underwent an operation to remove the sinus tract together with the sac, and at the same time the tethered cord between the sac base and the distal end of the spinal cord was detached. The diagnosis of dermoid sinus and meningocele was confirmed histopathologically. These kinds of congenital pathologies in the cervical region may also predispose the patient to other diseases or symptoms. Herein, a case of meningocele associated with cervical dermoid sinus tract which presented with recurrent meningitis and a rare manifestation of mirror movement is discussed. Neurosurgeons should consider the possible coexistence of mirror movement and recurrent meningitis in the treatment of these types of congenital abnormalities.

RESUMEN

Endometriosis co-existing with bilateral dermoid cysts of the ovaries is a rare occurrence although both benign conditions are said to be common in women in the reproductive age group. We present a case of a young woman with primary infertility associated with incapacitating dysmenorrhoea. Sonographic evaluation revealed bilateral ovarian cysts. Video-assisted laparoscopy was performed which revealed bilateral dermoid cysts and endometriotic deposits in the pelvis. The ovarian cysts were enucleated and the endometriotic deposits were endo-coagulated. The patient was treated with GnRH agonist for three months. There have been only two reports of benign and malignant teratomas co-existing with endometriomas

RESUMEN

A posterior fossa dermoid cyst in association with the Klippel-Feil syndrome, in a 4 year old child is reported. Early diagnosis to prevent complications like neural compression, cyst rupture and staphylococcal meningitis justifies investigation for posterior fossa dermoids in cases of Klippel-Feil syndrome. Their embryological basis is discussed.

RESUMEN

Pilonidal cysts and sinuses are described as dermoid cysts which contain follicles of hairs and sebaceous glands. They clinically present as a classic case of inflammation which comes with pain, local infection and redness. The origin of pilonidal disease remains controverse. There are many hypothesis as lack of hygiene on the affected area and a penetration and growth of a hair in the subcutaneus tissue caused by constant friction or direct trauma on the damaged area. The option for clinical treatment is very frequent. However, taking into consideration the incidence and the possibility of recidive, surgical treatment is presently recommended. Complications include cellulitis and abscess formation. Pilonidal cysts are mostly found on the sacral region. In the literature is found description of pilonidal cysts on the penis, interdigital region on the hands as well as on the cervical region. We present a case of pilonidal cyst located on the vault biparietal region, without malignant degeneration.
