Dandruff in Benghazi

In a dermatology clinic in Benghazi, 10.9% out of 1000 consecutive cases were labeled as dandruff. It was suspected that this high rate may have been due to misdiagnosis of other causes of excessive scaling, such as seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis. This paper attempts to define what really constitutes dandruff to help the general practitioner in reaching the right diagnosis in such cases

Pemphigus in Benghazi

The clinical profiles of 7 patients with Pemphigus, seen over a period of 5 yrs, are presented. It appears to be an uncommon disease in Benghazi. The relevant literature is briefly reviewed

Clinical evaluation of 340 patients with vitiligo

The clinical pattern of vitiligo in 340 patients is presented. Females were slightly more frequently affected than males and most of the patients were in their first and second decade. The mean age of males [20.60] was about 2 years higher than that of females [18.59]. Familial occurrence was recorded in 10.88% of the case. The generalized variety of vitiligo was the commonest type observed. Factors determining the prognosis and association with other autoimmune disorders are discussed

Zoster in infancy

There cases of Zoster in infancy are reported. In 2, the mother had varicella during pregnancy. Zoster had uneventful course in all the 3 cases

Psoriasis in children

The clinical presentation of childhood psoriasis in [85] patients is presents is presented. Females were slightly more affected than males and the peak age onset was between 4 and 8 years. The mean age of onset was about the same in both sexes. Family history was positive in 10.58%. Plaque variety was the commonest and guttate lesion were observed in about 30% of the cases. Itching was involved in nearly 35% of patients. Therapeutic response to coaltar treatment was satisfactory and the guttate lesions responded well to treatment with antibiotics systemically. Pustular and erythrodermic varieties and psoriatic arthritis were not observed

Clinical pattern of psoriasis in Benghazi

The clinical pattern of psoriasis in 168 patients is presented. Females were slightly more frequently affected than males and most of the patients were in their second and third decade. The mean age of males [26.48] was about 3 years higher than that of females [23.5]. A familial occurrence was recorded in 8.33% of the cases. Itching appeared to be a prominent feature and only 23.8% quoted worsening in colder months. Extensor surfaces were the commonest sites of involvement and more than half showed nail changes of one type or the other. Psoriatic arthropathy and exfoliative psoriasis were rare and no case of Pustular psoriasis was observed
