Résumé

Sixteen patients [10 men, 6 women; an average age, 35 years] underwent endoscopic resection of prepatellar bursitis at El-Zahra and El- Helal hospitals. All patients had a period of conservative treatment of their bursa that failed. The average follow-up period was 20 months [range, 11 months to 30 months]. 14 patients [87.5%] had satisfactory results according to the grading system of Kerr. In 2 patients [12.5%], the results were unsatisfactory. One of the two patients had an unsatisfactory result because he had a recurrence of the bursa; and the second had postoperative infection of the bursa. Endoscopic resection of the prepatellar bursa offers significantly lower morbidity than does open excision. The trauma to the skin and soft tissue is less. The recovery is faster and major complications of skin incision and delayed recovery are avoided

Résumé

This study was undertaken to assess the efficacy of arthroscopic debridement of arthritic knee and to identify further prognostic factors affecting the treatment outcome by contributing to more effective patients' selection. Arthroscopic debridement was carried out to 75 patients with degenerative arthritis. The study aimed to contact all patients, but only 60 patients were available for follow up. Of those 60 patients, there were 38 men and 22 women ranging in age from 32 to 61 years [mean 48.7 years]. The follow up ranged from 13 to 36 months [mean 22 months]. The results showed that 38 knees were excellent and good, 15 knees were fair and six knees were poor after surgery. Symptoms of a long duration of severe arthritis as evidenced by preoperative roentgenograms or seen during arthroscopy were correlated with poor or fair results. Conversely, a shorter duration of symptoms of mild to moderate arthritis as evidenced by roentgenograms or seen during arthroscopy and mechanical symptoms correlated with excellent or good results

Résumé

In this study, 25 patients with endoscopic anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] reconstruction using middle third patellar tendon [BTB] were retrospectively evaluated. The average length of follow up was 30 months. Patients were evaluated using the International Knee Documentation Committee [IKDC] for knee ligament evaluation. The results showed that 21 patients had a satisfactory result, one case of arthrofibrosis and one case of a persistent patellofemoral pain

Résumé

Between 1991 and 1998, forty-five consecutive postero-lateral lumbar fusion [twenty males and twenty five females] with pedicular screw fixation in patients with grades I and II lumbar spondylolisthesis. The youngest age of the patients was 26 and the oldest was 65 years with median age of 40 years. Twenty patients were degenerative, twenty five with isthmic type, ten of them had a history of previous laminectomy. All the patients were treated at El-Zahra University and Heliopolis Hospitals. Follow -up period ranged from 2 to 8 years with an average of four years. All patients were evaluated according to J.O.A. scoring system for pre and postoperative clinical evaluation. The low back pain [LBP], leg pain, neurological symptoms, and Activity Day Living [ADL], according to improvement rate, were excellent in 56%, good in 28.5% fair in 13.3% and poor in 2.2%. The overall fusion rate was 70% We concluded that the clinical success rate of fusion, and patient satisfaction in the study was reproducible, with acceptable rate of complications

Résumé

Twenty-five consecutive patients with advanced Osteoarthritis of the knee with different degrees of varus deformities, were treated by Total Knee Replacement [TKR] at EI-Zahra and EI-Helal Hospitals. All patients were available for clinical and radiographic evaluation by the knee society scoring system. The mean follow up period was 21 months [range 3 months to 4 years]. The maximum varus deformity was 22°; the minimum was 7° with a mean value of 14.7°. At the latest follow-up examination, the mean knee score improved from 23.6 to 97.6 points and the mean functional score improved from 40.9 to 64.1 points. Full correction to 5° -10° valgus was achieved in 88% of cases. No major complications were encountered in this series. We can conclude that arthroplasty of the knee is an effective operative treatment for patients with OA associated with varus deformity of the knee
