RÉSUMÉ

The present experiment was conducted to study the variability, heritability and genetic advance in F2 segregating population derived from the cross, RNR-15048 x Dokra-Dokri, evaluated in augmented design with two checks at ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad during the Kharif-2022. Analysis of variance revealed the presence of significant differences for all eleven traits examined, indicating the presence of genetic variation between the individuals studied. Higher values of Genotypic Coefficient of Variation (GCV) and Phenotypic Coefficient of Variation (PCV) were observed for panicle weight, number of filled grains, number of unfilled grains, total grains per panicle, and single plant yield. Least difference was observed between PCV and GCV value for almost all the traits indicating the little influence by the environment and possibility for genetic improvement of these traits through selection. The traits plant height, panicle weight, number of filled grains, number of unfilled grains, total grains per panicle, spikelet fertility, thousand grain weight and single plant yield recorded high heritability (>60%) associated with high genetic advance as percent of mean (>20) resulting in no environmental influence on the expression and selection for improvement of such characters could be worthwhile. High heritability coupled with moderate genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for panicle length propounding non-additive gene action in their inheritance suggesting heterosis breeding could be useful for improving these traits. Overall high PCV and GCV coupled with high heritability and high genetic advance as percent of mean was noticed for panicle weight, number of filled grains, number of unfilled grains, total grains per panicle, and single plant yield suggesting significant amount of variability with predominance of additive type of gene action. Hence, direct phenotypic selection.

RÉSUMÉ

Background: The waste produced in healthcare activities carries a high potential for infection and injury than any other type of waste. Inadequate knowledge of biomedical waste (BMW) management can lead to serious health consequences and an adverse impact on environment. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of BMW management among healthcare workers of government T. D. medical college, Alappuzha. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among staff and students of government T. D. medical college, Alappuzha. Stratified sampling was done and data was collected using semi structured questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 26 software. Results: The majority of faculty and nurses had good knowledge about segregation of waste into yellow and red coded bags. Nurses, students and residents had good knowledge about waste disposal into white coded containers whereas into blue coded containers was seen in lesser proportion among all categories of health care workers. All the nurses and majority of the faculty had corrected attitude towards BMW management. Assessment of practice revealed that 50% of the nurses practiced proper BMW management and the proportion was much lower among all other categories of health care workers. Conclusions: Knowledge about infectious plastic waste and sharp waste disposal was low among students and faculty respectively. Knowledge about metallic and glassware disposal was low among all categories of health care workers. Attitude towards BMW management was low among students and residents and its practice was inadequate among all categories of health care workers.

RÉSUMÉ

Institutional support measures are formulated to induce the agriculture of the nation and also improve the livelihood of the farming community. The study aims to develop a scale to measure the attitude of farmers towards institutional support measures to mitigate the climate change for sustainable livelihood of Cauvery delta zone farmers. Hundred possible statements were prepared to assess the farmer’s attitude towards climate change using the five-point continuum. Since the selected scale values should have equal appearing interval and distributed uniformly along the psychological continuum, it was necessary to form 10 compartments so as to select ten statements at one statement from each compartment. Based on the high S-value and low Q-value each statement was found and the final scale comprised of ten statements. The scale was developed using the equal appearing interval method, which comprises of 10 statements (six positive and four negative). It was found that nearly two third 63.66 per cent of the respondents had moderately favorable attitude towards institutional support measures followed by 19.34 per cent of respondents had less favorable attitude and only 17.00 per cent of respondents had high favourable attitude towards institutional support measures. Hence, medium to high level of favourable attitude towards the institutional support measures on climate change is giving hope for the extension professionals for improved and better implementation of suitable modification in climate change-based programmes to the farmers.

Cosmetics play a vital role for everyone to have a joyful and sanguine life. In present scenario herbal cosmeceuticals have more demand because they have no side effects. People having oily skin suffer from acne, whiteheads and blackheads quite often so scrubbing become more essential. In our present study we formulated 3 different formulations F1, F2, F3 in gel form for oily skin by using turmeric, aloe vera, cinnamon, potato starch, activated charcoal powder, honey, green tea, lemon juice, onion, walnut shell, coconut oil, beet root juice powder, sodium lauryl sulphate, water and evaluated by using various parameters such as physical appearance, viscosity, pH, Spreadability, irritability, washability, stability studies and got fruitful results with all the tests. The scrub F2 was found to show excellent effects on controlling oil secretion, and preventing formation of new pimples. The herbal formulation F2 was having characteristic odour, reddish brown in color having, light, non-irritant to the skin and quite elegant. The powder was smooth to touch and in gel form it spreads satisfactorily. Thus, the formulated scrub F2 can be utilized efficaciously without a side effect which exfoliates and makes glowing skin.
