Résumé

Areca palm (ChrysalidoCarpus lutescenes) a widely used plant having feathery arching brands with 100 leaflets. All these plants produce much of waste in additions to greeny and nuts. This waste of spade is used for the production of various molecules that are used in industry and pharma sector. Fermentation techniques are used to generate economically important enzymes for industrial and pharmaceutical purposes. Cellulase enzyme degrades the cellulose in between β-1, 4 glucosidic link found in lignocellulosic complex which under physical treatment is slower to degrade. The present study of Aspergillus niger for cellulose production was carried in solid state (SS) and submerged (SM) fermentations for production of cellulase enzyme. Cellulase production in SSF after 72 h of fermentation was 8.02 and in SMF activity was 2.98 per ml of cultured broth at H 6 and temperature at 30°C. Both SMF and SSF were supplemented with lactose and lactobionic acid, which acted as cellulase P production inducers. The aim of the present work was to study the effect of Areca palm spade as substrate for Aspergillus niger and its cellulase production under SMF and SSF.

Résumé

The objective of the present research work is developing a gradient, reversed phase liquid chromatographic method for the determination of saxagliptin hydrochloride in bulk drugs and pharmaceutical dosage form. The chromatographic separation was achieved on a Inertsil C8 (4.6x250) mm, 5 μm column, the gradient LC method employs solution A and B as mobile phase. The solution A contains (1.20g of sodium dihydrogen phosphate in 1000 ml of water) pH 5.0 solution B (acetonitrile) at flow rate 1.2 ml/min. The UV detector was operated at 210 nm and temperature was 25˚c. The retention time was 7.68 min and linearity was observed in the concentration range of 50-375 μg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.9999. The percentage relative standard deviation in accuracy and precision studies was found to be less than 2%. The method was successfully validated as per International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines. Saxagliptin hydrochloride undergoes degradation under acidic, basic, oxidation, dry heat and photolytic conditions, degradation impurities did not interfere with the retention time of Saxagliptin hydrochloride. The proposed method was found to be a new, simple, precise, linear, accurate, specific and stability indicating.

Résumé

Kallmann's syndrome is a rare genetic disorder due to abnormal migration of olfactory axons and gonadotropin releasing hormone producing neurons, characterized by hypogonadism and anosmia. The prevalence of Kallmann's syndrome is 1:10,000 to 1:60,000 with a male to female ratio of 5:1. The inheritance of Kallmann's syndrome may be X-linked, autosomal recessive or autosomal dominant with variable penetrance, mutation involving KAL-1 and KAL-2 gene respectively. We report a case of Kallmann's syndrome in a 19-year-old boy with characteristic clinical, biochemical and MRI findings.

Résumé

Osteopetrosis is a collective term for a range of sclerosing bone diseases resulting from an absence or defective function of osteoclasts. The clinical expression is variable and includes skeletal, hematological and neurological manifestations. The common neurological manifestation includes cranial neuropathies involving optic, cochlear, facial and trigeminal nerves. Spastic quadriplegia occurring as a result of brain stem compression in osteopetrosis is uncommon. The association of Type 1 Arnold Chiari malformation with osteopetrosis resulting in brain stem compression syndrome is an extremely rare entity.

Résumé

Histopathological effects of sublethal doses of monocrotophos on the gills have been studied by exposing the fish for a period ranging from ten to twenty days. The extent of damage to gills was dependent on the dose and duration of exposure. Histopathological changes in the gills observed were characterized primarily by hemorrhage in the primary and secondary gill lemellae. Degeneration and necrosis of epithelial cells were very prominent. Distortion of the secondary lamellae was very prominent, beginning with disruption of epithelial cells from pillar cells.

Résumé

Relationship between body size and bioaccumulation of copper, zinc, lead and cadmium in the fouling bivalve, M. sallei (Recluz) in Visakhapatnam harbour was studied. While concentration of copper, zinc and lead decrease with increasing size, no such relationship is observed for cadmium.

Résumé

This paper highlights the abuse potential of the codeine containing cough syrups, which may take two forms. One, experimental abuse in school or college students which later persists in a dependent pattern. Two, pre-existing opioid abusers, as a substitute which starts after the school or college years. The short term treatment outcome is better in the former group in that they are able to maintain abstinence for a relatively longer period.

Résumé

Patients admitted to the Drug De-addiction and Treatment Centre, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, were screened for HIV antibodies. Out of 116 patients, 45 (39%) were injecting drug users (IDUs), 29 (25%) were other drug users and 42 (36%) were primary users of alcohol. One IDU was HIV seropositive (2.2% of the IDUs). Analysis of HIV-related risk behaviour showed that the IDUs were at high risk, because of needle sharing as also because of having multiple sex partners. The potential for HIV infection in these persons practising high-risk behaviour calls for timely preventive measures.
