The city of Guwahati is facing rise in crime incidences and the sex crime cases. The cases reported varied: abduction and kidnapping, rape, immoral trafficking, prostitution, unnatural sexual offences, child molestation, outraging the modesty of a woman, allegation of a man masturbating on a victim girl etc. The burden of such crimes on the society is huge. Many victims suffer from psychiatric problems as a result of sexual assault. The venereal diseases are another horrible consequence along with unwanted pregnancies. Moreover, many of these crimes are never reported. Sexual assaults on male are also under reported. Résumé

We report a case on sudden death brought to the Department of Forensic Medicine, Gauhati medical college, Assam. Death was due to syncope as a result of cardiac tamponade due to pericardial effusion following metastasis from carcinoma of breast. Death from cardiac tamponade following carcinoma breast is not a usual finding on the autopsy table. These sudden deaths make forensic pathologists aware of the course of natural diseases. Cardiovascular diseases accounts for vast majority of cases and certain neoplasm may also present as sudden death. Malignancy of breast is one of the commonest malignancies in females and often it presents late with metastasis to the underlying organs. The importance of autopsy lies here in the fact that it alleviates the doubts in the minds of the relatives of the deceased and relieves the law of the burden of un-necessary investigations. Moreover, role of pathology in Forensic Medicine in such cases is inevitable in establishing the cause of death.

Résumé

We report a rare case on Poland‟s syndrome with unilateral Amastia in an alleged victim of rape who was brought to our department escorted by the police for Medical examination. Congenital absence of breast is an unusual anomaly of the breast. As such, anomalies of breast are rare. Amastia is the total absence of breast tissue. Poland‟s syndrome is one such rare syndrome associated with Amastia. Poland‟s syndrome is not a single entity but is a constellation of anomalies. In this syndrome, the predominant defect varies depending upon the extent of involvement of different parts. All children with Poland‟s syndrome have apalsia or hypoplasia of the sternocostal portion of the pectoralis major muscle and at least one other associated lesion. Other than Amastia, abnormalities of hand, nipples and other muscles may be associated with Poland‟s syndrome. Such congenital anomalies may be associated with depression and this in turn may lead to these patients falling easy prey of criminal minds.
