Résumé

The mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) account for approximately 6-8 Percent of all salivary gland tumors. Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the jaws is rare. Following is a case report of central mucoepidermoid carcinoma which involves the ramus of the mandible. Origin of the central mucoepidermoid carcinoma is discussed.

Résumé

Malignant melanoma of the oral cavity can be primary or secondary due to metastasis from distant site. Incidence of oral cavity by metastasis of melanoma is 1.85%. Most common oral sites involved are tongue, buccal mucosa and parotid gland. Oral lesions occur as a part of disseminated disease during the advanced stages and has poor prognosis. An unusual case of metastatic malignant melanoma of the maxillary gingiva is reported.

Résumé

Osteosarcoma, either primary or metastatic, rarely involves the jaws. Though only a few cases of mandibular metastasis of osteosarcoma have been reported, only one case of et al maxillary involvement (Singh, 1978) has been reported. A case of 21 year old boy with metastasis of osteosarcoma to the right maxilla from primary osteosarcoma of the left femur is presented. The patient complained of pain and swelling in the left maxillary region which was earlier diagnosed as maxillary sinusitis on the basis of Water's sinus radiograph in a medical hospital. Further radiographic examination with the panoramic and intraoral periapical radiographs done by us and later by fine needle aspiration cytology led us to diagnose a secondary deposits of osteosarcoma.

Résumé

Primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC) of the jaws is a rare lesion and majority of them arise from the epithelial lining of pre-existing odontogenic cysts (OCS). In a case of 20 year old male, PIOC presented a painless swelling extending from left posterior side of the mandible to across the midline with a duration of three months. X-rays revealed a cystic Unilocular radiolucency with well demarcated margin. Aspiration revealed the characteristics of cystic fluid. Histological examination of the biopsy specimen following marsupialisation showed SCA arising in cystic lining. In another case of 24 year old female, PIOC presented a painless swelling on the right side of the mandible with a hollow cavity seen intraorally in the region of the first molar, exfoliated itself in one month. X-rays revealed a cystic radiolucency but with irregular margin centrally. Histologic examination of a biopsy specimen from the lining of the cavity showed SCA originating in cystic lining. In both cases habit of tobacco was absent.

Résumé

Sturge-Weber syndrome is reported in a 19 year old male. Intraoral manifestations of SWS are uncommon. Hence, the present case is reported for the presence of gingival capillary hemangioma which was surgically treated. A review from the literature pertaining to orofacial manifestations of SWS is given.

Résumé

Orofacial manifestations in cases of Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome (MPD) diagnosed amongst 71 Dental patients were studied in detail. Findings of this study show that the chief complaint and associated orofacial manifestations of MPD are related to muscular hypertonicity. Stressful situations may produce muscular hypertension, which leads to muscle tenderness as a symptom of over work and fatigue. MPD may be considered a psycosomatic disease.
