La resonancia magnética se aplica al estudio de la patología mamaria desde hace más de una década. Su mayor utilidad está en el ámbito de la patología tumoral maligna; sin embargo, también se aceptan otras utilidades como la evaluación de prótesis mamarias y sus complicaciones. El objetivo principal de este artículo es revisar las indicaciones del método a fin de promover el uso racional de la técnica, en casos en que su utilidad está comprobada o al menos consensuada. Se analiza también brevemente algunos aspectos técnicos y criterios diagnósticos.
The magnetic resonance has been applied to study mammary pathology for more than one decade. Its greater utility is in the scope of the malignant tumorlike pathology, nevertheless, there are also accepted other utilities such as mammary prothesis and its complications. The primary target of this article is to review the indications of the method in order to promote the rational use of the technique, in cases that its utility is verified or at least agreed. There is also briefly analyzed some technical aspects and criteria diagnoses.
