Résumé

We conducted a lung cancer risk assessment for internal exposure to naturally occurring [222]Rn gas both indoor and outdoor. A series of equations were used to estimate Rn concentrations indoor and outdoor and the associated lung cancer risk in some coastal regions in Egypt. The mean [222]Rn concentrations were 42.98 [SD 33.12] Bq/m[3] and 8.63 [SD 6.16] Bq/m[3] indoor and outdoor respectively. The mean risk of radon-induced cancer [deaths per million population] was 83.4 [SD 64.67] indoors and 25.1 [SD19.52] outdoors. Levels were higher for western regions of the country compared to eastern ones but the highest levels were in Rashid [Nile delta]. Smoking was shown to increase the risk considerably

Résumé

An environmental behavioural modification programme was implemented in Alexandria city, Egypt, in order to help street children to change their behaviour, discover their abilities and develop and acquire new skills and knowledge. The programme included camping and field trips, recreational activities and games, role play and theatre, story-telling, life-skill activities, and gardening and animal care. Data were collected from observational sheets of adaptive behaviour and conversation sessions before and after the intervention on a sample of 35 street children aged between 7 and 15 years. The mean scores for each behavioural item and all items together before and after the intervention were significantly improved in a number of areas, except for speech disorders and substance use

Résumé

In this study, bone transport using the Ilizarov external fixator was performed to treat 44 males and 5 females with an average age of 27.8 years. The average number for previous surgical interference to achieve union was 3.1. According to the situation of the removal of any hard ware, segmental excision and debridement were done. Skin coverage, reconstruction of the soft tissue or corticotomy was done earlier or simultaneously with the application of the Ilizarov apparatus. Distraction started at 10 days after corticotomy at a rate of 1 mm a day. Additional procedures were performed as necessary. The study concluded that despite of obstacles, complications and drawbacks [OCD], bone transport using Ilizarov external fixator would provide an excellent option in the management of skeletal defects of the lower limbs
