Résumé

This study comprises a series of 25 fingers presenting with digital nerve injuries in association with other injuries involving the flexor tendons and other digital structures. In order of frequency, the ulnar digital nerve was the most commonly affected, as there were 10 fingers with such an affection [40.0%] in 8 fingers [32.0%], both digital nerves were affected. In a further 7 fingers [28.0%], the radial digital nerve was affected

Résumé

Fifty asymptomatic and 75 osteoarthritic knees were compared physically and radiologically. In the latter group side movements of the patella were limited, the Q-angle was increased and there were 13.3% with patellae altae. The mean congruence angle was -7° in the control group and -1.29° in the osteoarthritic group

Résumé

Twenty-four male patients aged 20-34 years, with quadriceps femoris muscle [QFM] weakness, Grade 2, following open meniscectomy operation, have undergone physical therapy, one session/day for 6 days/week. Physiotherapy included infrared therapy followed by static QFM exercises. Twelve patients received in addition continuous faradic stimulation to the QFM. The QFM power was recorded every five days in all patients. Therapy was given until a given QFM torque was attained. Data analysis revealed that faradic stimulation had significantly enhanced the recovery of the QFM strength

Résumé

Peripheral nerve injuries are known complications of shoulder dislocation. The incidence, clinical features, and prognosis of nerve injuries were studied in 17 male patients with acute anterior shoulder dislocation. Electromyographic [EMG] and clinical examination revealed partial axillary nerve injury in 9 patients and complete injury in 8 patients. There was, however, no evidence of any other nerve injury. Furthermore, EMG examination, within 14 weeks after the day of dislocation, showed that spontaneous reinnervation was the rule in all patients. This EMG finding was associated with improvement in the deltoid muscle power. Thus, this would suggest a good prognosis

Résumé

The study comprised 349 children suffering from paralytic poliomyelitis, 197 boys and 152 girls, aged 6 months to 4 years, mean 16.8 months. The regional risk of initial paralysis was 71.2%, 36.4%, 12.6% and 11.5% for the lower limb, trunk, upper limb and neck, with a cure rate of 35.0%, 84.3%, 56.8% and 92.5% respectively. Individual muscles most at risk in each body region were the quadriceps femoris 65.2%, erector spinae 34.7%, deltoid 12.2% and neck flexors 10.0%. Highest cure rates were in the quadratus lumborum 98.3%, and rectus abdominis 97.1%. The lowest cure rates were in the lower limb. Residual paralysis was 0.8%, 1.5%, 2.5%, and 29.3% of total muscles in the neck, trunk, upper and lower limbs respectively. The lower limbs therefore suffered most from risk of initial and residual paralysis, and least cure rate

Résumé

In a material of 936 cases of paralytic poliomyelitis, the most frequently affected muscles in the neck were the flexors [91.8% per side of neck affected], the erector spinae [96.0% per side] in the pack, the deltoid [93.0% per limb] in the upper limb and the quadriceps femoris [90.1% per limb] in the lower extremity. When the overall muscle distribution in the body was computed, the muscles of the lower limb were the most frequently [50% approximately for each], specially the quadriceps [61.7%]. In the neck, trunck and upper limb the range of frequency of affection was 5 to 10%, except the erector spinae [30.5%] and the deltoid [11.4%]. Multiple muscle affection in the body as a whole and in each region was the rule

Résumé

In 936 paralytic poliomyelitis children examined in first month of paralysis, the following distribution was noted: Lower limbs 91.3%, trunk 33.4%, upper limbs 20.2%, and neck 8.8%. Respiratory, cranial and encephalomyelitic cases were rare. There was no sensory affection. More than one region of the body was affected in 56.8% of the children

Résumé

Fifteen patients [8 males and 7 females] having cystic lesions in the cervico-trochanteric region of the femur were studied. Their mean age was 12.6 years. Their pathological examination was monostotic fibrous dysplasia [7], aneurysmal bone cyst [5], simple bone cyst [3]. They were treated by curettage and bone grafting, supplemented by internal fixation in five cases. The cavities were completely obliterated in 12 cases. Two cases recurred and reoperation by curettage and grafting resulted in complete cure. In the last patient there was slow taking of the graft, and progressive coxa vara, corrected by osteotomy with fair results

Résumé

The technique described is recommended to diagnose injury of the lateral ligament of the ankle, and to verify or exclude the presence of rupture of the anterior talo-fibular ligament. Anteroposterior Rontgen views of the ankle were obtained whilst applying an anterior stress on the ankle
