Résumé

Linear focal elastosis is characterized clinically by horizontal yellowish palpable striae on the lower back and histologically fragmentation or aggregation of elastic fibers. We herein report four cases of linear focal elastosis in male patients. They were 12 to 17 years old and the disease duration was 1 to 3 years. We suggest linear focal elastosis is a variant of striae distensae affecting elastic fibers.

Résumé

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy (FHI) is an uncommon, benign, solitary intradermal or subcutaneous tumor. It occurs typically in the axillary or shoulder region. The histopathologic examination of affected lesion shows the characteristic elements: dense fibrous tissue, adipose tissue, and primitive mesenchymal tissues. A 15 month-old girl had the multiple, asymptomatic, discrete, and skin-colored tumors that scattered on the scalp. These were present at birth. We report a rare case of FHI occurred on the scalp with multiple and congenital characteristics.

Résumé

Anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (AED) is characterized by a well-known tetrad of anhidrosis, hypotrichosis, hypodontia, and typical facies with a wide constellation of developmental defects of tissues derived from the ectoderm. Most of these patients have normal or borderline normal intelligence, but some present with mental retardation. A 15-year-old boy and his younger brother were evaluated for dry skin and intolerance to heat since their births. Their parents and other brother were normal. Both of them had atopic dermatitis. A skin biopsy was done on their left axilla, which showed a few immature eccrine glands in the dermis. We report herein two rare cases of AED in siblings with atopic dermatitis.

Résumé

Lymphangiectasia(acquired lymphangioma) is characterized clinically by the presence of a circumscribed eruption of thin-walled, translucent vesicles which closely resemble frog spawn in appearance. This rare disorder may arise as a result of acquired lymphatic obstruction secondary to surgery, irradiation, chronic recurrent infection, chronic scarring, or trauma. Herein, we report a case of atypical lymphangiectasia at the site of an abdominal scar in a 70-year-old female. She developed a dark red-colored, pedunculated papule, 2 years after a total abdominal hysterectomy and post-operative irradiation for carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Histopatholgical findings showed multiple irregularly shaped cystic dilatated cells lined by a single layer of endothelium in the dermis. Immunohistochemical staining with factor VIII-related antigen showed negative results. A lymphangiogram showed signs of acquired lymphatic obstruction.

Résumé

BACKGROUND: In Korea, especially in the Western Gyeongnam area, the exact prevalence and characteristics of skin tumors are unknown. The increasing incidence of skin cancer has been attributed to the increase iin exposure of the population to sunlight and other factors, such as chemicals or viruses. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is the investigation of clinical and histopathological observation of cutaneous maligrant tumors in the Western Gyeongnam area. METHODS: This study was based on the analysis of 125 cases of cutaneous malignant tumor patients between January, 1990 and December, 1996 at the Department of Dermatology, Gyeongsang National University Hospital. RESULTS: The results are summarized as follows: 1. The mean incidence of cutaneous malignant tumors in the total number of outpatients was 0.15% (125/84,208). 2. The age of onset was quite varied but the majority of cases, 119 cases(95.2%), were over 40 years old. The ratio of men to women was 1.05:1. 3. Among the 125 cases of cutaneous malignant tumors, the most frequently observed tumor was basal cell carcinoma, 50 cases(40.0%). The next was squamous cell carcinoma, 42 cases(33.6%). 4. We observed three aases of metastasis in squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Two cases(squamous cell carcinoma and malignant, melanoma) were metastasized into the regional lymph nodes. One case(basal cell carcinoma) into the ribs. CONCLUSIONS: We investigated the clinical observations of 125 cutaneous malignant tumor patients in our clinic and made a comparative study. This data will be available for the study of cutaneous malignant tumors in the future.
